Re: Pre-determined losses
How can anyone go several games and not fumble, but yet in one game they have 4-6 fumbles, with a couple of picks? My buddy was in the dynasty with me and played you guessed it Alabama this week, and his 1st 2 possesions he turns the ball over and Alabama has a 21 point lead in the 1st qtr. The score was 38-7 during the 3rd quarter.
I also had a game like this aganist Florida, and I killed the guy..same story he turned the ball over every time....needless to say I was the home team.
You're dang right they have pre-determined losses.
This thread made me think of these Geico commercials...

Re: Pre-determined losses
Not true in this year's game. I've played in a game and thought, "Man, nothing can go right for me..." only to turn it around in the 2nd half and win. I don't know about online play or not, but against the CPU, the game is balanced... and guess what, your players have bad games sometimes.
In my fourth season I went up against USC in the final regular game of the year. I was the #2, undefeated, they were #5. They beat me and eliminated me from the BCS national championship game. They did everything right and dominated me at home... I couldn't string together anything. But then I got matched up against them in a major bowl game, and it was the opposite.
It wasn't predetermined... but let's say that they score a TD in their first drive, then I'm playing catch up, then I make a mistake (fumble, int, etc), and then they score again? I'm significantly out of my comfort zone enough that I'm prone to making mistakes.Comment

Re: Pre-determined losses
I must confess... i've always been one who disagreed that this game had pre-determined losses. Sure, there are games where you fumble like crazy and get tons of bogus penalties, but that does happen in real life as well. If the better team won every game it just would be sports... HOWEVER, after the game I played last night I am now 100% CERTAIN there are pre-determined losses programmed into this game.
Here's the story... i'm in the 2nd year of my UAB dynasty playing Tulane at home. It was a game where EVERYTHING was going in the CPU's favor... I had lost 4 fumbles, had 2 touchdowns called back for holding, and my receivers were dropping passes left and right all game. Still, I somehow managed to stay in the game and was down 17-13 late in the 4th quarter.
I drive deep into their redzone hoping to take the lead. I hit my TE wide open in the endzone for the... oh wait, he drops it. Dang... after an incomplete pass, the CPU all out blitzes and I hit my WR in the end zone for a... wait, another drop. Now it's 4th down, but I decide to go for it. You guessed it... CPU blitzes again, I hit my wide open Impact Player WR this time, dropped AGAIN. I was FUMING to say the least... but I manage to force a 3 and out and get the ball back with just 20 sec remaining.
HERE is where I found my evidence of pre-determined losses. I'm already pissed beyond belief at this point, pretty much knowing i've been cheated out of this game. I had 10 recruits visiting my campus this game, so in one of my not so proud moments, I decide to pump fake glitch the CPU (yes, sad I know). You can probably guess what the end result was... 3 STRAIGHT WIDE OPEN DROPS by my Impact WR, the last as time expired. I wish I had a way to record it, because if this game wasn't evidence of pre-determined losses I don't know what is!!!
In my younger days I surely would have launched my controller right through the wall. I settled for hitting the power button and opening a beer. Now i'm at work and all I can think about is running home to replay the game and get my revenge!!!LET'S GO FLYERS, YANKEES, DOLPHINS!!!Comment

Re: Pre-determined losses
I saw that game and it was pretty ugly.
Back to topic, I say no on the pre-determined loss. It's just every game, every week there is different things that occur in the game. Just gotta go with it.Comment

Re: Pre-determined losses
These people complaining about pre determined losses are the same ones that think they should win a championship with Toledo, Duke etc every single season.Comment

Re: Pre-determined losses
It's funny, I've been dealing with an upset (it's true) loss to Alabama in the January 2014 BCS title game as Michigan. I say upset because I dominated them in the previous season's title game and started the season as #1. I cruised through the regular season. Closest game was a 13 point win against Penn St. My O and D were dominating the whole season, then came the title game. Alabama had yet to win a title (unlike what I see in other threads on here) and escaped some games with close victories. Before the title game, I see Lee and Kirk pick Bama to win. Then Cullen Christian guarantees victory against Bama. I knew I was in trouble.
Bama pretty much controlled the game after my star linebacker leaves in the first half with a broken finger (out for 4 weeks), holding a 10 point 4th quarter lead after nailing a 59 yard fg! I battle back and finally throw a td pass with Devin Gardner to cut the lead to 3. This is despite his erratic play all day including numerous overthrows and 4 int's. Bama milks the clock and I finally stop them with 1 min left and no time outs on my 2 yard line. Bama lines up for a FG, lets the time tick and 9 sec left on playclock my player jumps offsides. Great, now the clock continues to run and I am at 40 secs left. Line up again, and another offsides. Great...now I know I'll have about 12 seconds to go 80 yards to win the game. Bama makes the chip shot, I take touchback, get a 25 yard pass--spike ball---throw incomplete to end game and watch Bama celebrate a National Title. To add insult to injury, the Kicker is named player of the game going 3-3, 59 long. I lose 23-17.
I felt like Miami against OSU in '02...Comment

Re: Pre-determined losses
Stuff happens. Sometimes teams are clicking week after week and then they lay an egg. And bear in mind momentum and fatigue play huge roles in this game - if you have a road game where your offense marches 50 yards and then throws a pick on two consecutive drives, your offense is now A. tired and B. really shaky in the momentum department. You are way more likely at that point to commit penalties, throw bad passes, fumble, drop a catch, etc. It takes a herculean effort to overcome those situations. And I don't mind that. I like that games sometimes feel like they are borderline unwinnable, and it makes it so much sweeter when you actually manage to win them.
Here's why I DON'T believe in pre-determined outcomes:
1. If you quit and restart that game, it usually plays very differently. I try to never quit games any more (have only done so twice in NCAA 11, out of six full seasons of games and a number of losses). But it's true. So unless they are pre-determining things as the game loads, or even during the game, I just can't believe it. The outcome is definitely not scripted prior to loading the game up because you can be getting handled by a team, quit out, and then blow them out the second time. It seems much more about momentum than pre-determined results to me. Especially getting a big lead on the road seems to give your team a lot of momentum, and giving up a few consecutive scores, or committing a few turnovers, seems to take all your momentum away.
2. If you are really good on offense and know how to put together must-have drives with low-risk plays, you can still score and have comebacks in these situations. Run to the sidelines to avoid fumbles. Don't take any chances throwing to covered receivers. If a guy drops one when he's wide open, don't go right back to him even if he's a good player - throw to someone else. Use screens and other safe plays. If you score a couple times it may restore some of your momentum, but still be careful - a QB who has already thrown a couple picks on the road seems prone to keep throwing them, at least in my experience.
3. I've played a few of these "pre-determined" type games in NCAA 11. In two I won on last second scores. It was just pure willpower and being good at the game. In another I lost to Bama in OT in the Fiesta Bowl. Thing was, it was purely my fault. I was down big midway through the game but eventually tied it with some really rough drives. In OT I had the ball on their five and was going in for the TD when they intercepted the option pitch. It was all on me though, I should have just taken the loss and I saw that the HB was covered. It was a first down play - if I hadn't done that I probably would have won that game, or at least I would have had a REALLY good chance to win it. It wasn't pre-determined, I just got shaky under pressure and screwed up. Too bad, so sad. But the game didn't make me do that.Comment

Re: Pre-determined losses
I agree that there are games that just arent your day. But at the same time, the perfect storm of imperfection that happens on occasions is over the top. I have played games where my 1. Star Player is hurt in the first few minutes of game 2. My reliable running back with normal settings fumbles 4 times, mind you he hadnt had a fumble all season. 3. Wide receivers continually drop wide open passes. 4. QB overthrows underthrows wide open receivers. 5. Every time you get inside the opponents 30 yard line you can expect at least 2 holding calls to make it all but impossible to score. 6. The CPU on the other hand will toss passes to double covered wide receivers who will catch them for 40 yard gains (it doesnt matter what program it is this happens from FIU to Alabama, from 90 qb to 70 qbs) 7. Yes the 59 yard field goals, that look like they could be good from 65. 8. CPU running back who all game could not get out of his backfield, suddenly channels Bo Jackson and runs over and stiff arms his way through the defense on his way to an 80 yard run to the endzone.
I've seen it all.Comment
