Re: NBA Elite 11 OS Exclusive Video: Oklahoma City Thunder @ Detroit Pistons
I will not get into this discussion too much, it is easy to critique or defend something before you put your hand on any game, but when I see people comparing RTP to euphoria (other threads), and even worst, when I see people comparing a 1 YEAR development cycle, TO A 3 YEAR one, I mean... you already know what these people want....
The RTP has 0 to do with the player individual animations, meaning that jumpers, dribbles, rebounds, passes, etc, those animations should looks smoother, some of them are in live for years.
You can also say that those animations where the RTP kicks in, I am specifically talking about mid-air collisions (but you can say any animation were there is contact), should look better, but I understand that those are a work in progress, and will naturally get better as a result of a more complex in-game RTP, so that is not a concern for the future
I understand people complaining about what should have been a priority for this year, but I also understand this dev team thought process, let´s get the controls spot on for now and the future, let´s introduce the RTP, because this year it doesn´t even matter because we don´t have MJ, so let´s go basic and fix what we were already strong, and build something that will let us create a great game in the future.
And against the general opinions, it would not take only more and better animations for live 10 to be a great game, the problem was the basic stuff, ex force fields
Don´t get me wrong, if this game is not a fun NBA experience I will not buy it, simply because I think the future is bright, 60 euros don´t grow on trees, but If you ask me if I think that they can NOW create a great game going forward??? I say Yes, last year I would say no I would say that they could compete, but without reaching 50% of what the real NBA is plus actually controlling every aspect of it
If next year the top priorities are not:
Smoother and more realistic - Basic Movement animations (Jumper/dribbling,dunk, every single basic animation)
Player differentiation
Complexing and more visual appealing RTP animations
And if there is time and/or resources, begin to polish the game, and every single game mode
If these don´t happen, or at least start to happen next year, then the evolution will be slower then I thought it was going to be, and possibly only Next gen consoles, we would see a WOW NBA basketball by EA
By a b-ball fan....

It is pretty bad...just wait until the games are released and all the "kids" will go back to the other forum...then things will be back to normal...Comment

Re: NBA Elite 11 OS Exclusive Video: Oklahoma City Thunder @ Detroit Pistons
Basketball is probably the most important sport when it comes to controlling your player and countering a defender. I personally like the direction they're going and I think with their technology that they're utilizing now, it could turn out to be something pretty special. With that being said, however, it has to LOOK good too. The foundation has been laid, now build upon it and stop trying to re-invent the wheel each year.
It has to do more than look good.
There has been a standard set out there. Anything below the standard of a full package of what has been offered in the past is not excelling in anything.
There is obviously the notion that this control thing causes for sacrifices in other places. Im not sure thats the tradeoff people want in the long runComment

We took the philosophies that made other EA Sports games successful (NHL, FIFA, FN) and applied them to the sport of basketball.GT Agent August

That studio doesn't make Madden. He's not saying any of them are the "most" successful. And I'm sure FIFA has a larger reach. Regardless, none of that matters in the discussion.Comment

Honestly man, i've never seen other sports mentioned so much to justify a basketball game.
All of these buzz words and cross references are kind of odd.
In reference to this video, it has nothing to do with any of that stuff.
This was supposed to show the game off with people who know what they're doing.
So there you have it, doesn't get any better than this right?Comment

With all due respect guys, some of you need to show some respect to the devs. I'm only making these videos to serve as evidence and use them for educational purposes. I appreciate the feedback, but a lot of these comments directed to the developers is unwarranted. I, personally, appreciate the time they spend on these forums. They don't have to do any of this, a lot of you need to step away from the computer and let your emotions subside before you make some of the comments you have. Just my opinion.
Agreed.......Comment

I don't understand why bringing other games into the discussion is a bad thing. I work in the video game industry and it is critical that I play and understand as many games out there as I can so I can learn from them, get inspired by them, and make the game I'm working on the best it can be.
When I played GTA IV for the first time I was impressed with their implementation of walking (which can be tricky to get right). I wanted to learn from it so I could try and do a better job next time I had to working on a walking mechanic.
When I played Uncharted 2 I was impressed with their seamless use of IK and brought much of that learning to Elite in various uses of IK in the game, many of which you probably don't even notice happening.
And of course we examine the successes and failures of the sports games in our studio. It would be foolish not to.
And I'm not sure what buzz words offend you. I don't think I tend to use buzz words. I speak on the boards like I speak in real life.
I want to have open, honest and intellectual discussions about basketball gaming on these forums. That's what I came here for.
And to answer your question, what you see in the videos is indeed NBA Elite 11.
It doesn't get any better than this? I think that's a loaded question with a lot of bias in it.
But with the footage you have available to you, you have everything you need to pass judgment on the look of the game.
I would just like people to listen to what I've been saying on the boards with respect to our focus and what our goals were and come to the demo with an open mind.
I love the game, love playing it and am extremely proud of the end result.
I cannot wait until the demo drops and we can start talking controls and gameplay mechanics.
And maybe even play against of few of you online...Comment

I'm not trying to justify anything, I am explaining the motivations behind our decisions since they have come into question.
