    Playing 4-2-5 D

I play 4-2-5 D most of the time...and find i get beat pretty bad when running vs 4 and 5 WR set....Looking for some help for a couple different things

    1) what the best D to play to get coverage on a 4 and 5 WR set, pass happy team

    2) what the best way to stop the run, usually toss sweep or off tackle plays I have trouble getting outside containment with my DE and OLB....

    Any help would be great!

Know your opponent. He must be exposing your weakness in your Defense. Mix it up, Zone and Man.

This is the only defense I play on this year's game. Against spread teams I usually play man or man under with a safety free over the top and I bring alot of pressure with different blitzes. Zone cannot be consistently relied upon because the CPU will pick it apart, although you can throw it in there to change things up. Playing man coverage puts your guys in the best position possible to defend th pass IMO, and if you bring pressure the QB has to get rid of it in under 3 seconds. If you're playing with an above average secondary throw in a lot of press man too.

I'm beginning to experiment with the 4-2-5 but I recommend doing some research on teams that use it... the first one that comes to mind is TCU.

            Here's a pretty good article on TCU's D:

I remember Cal and Miss St. using the 4-2-5 in the past decade and having a lot of success. They both had standout Rover-SS like Donnie McCleskey and Pig Prather if you remember either of those guys.. basically undersized DBs with a lot of range, who pack a punch when it comes to tackling. I'm not sure how often they would truly freelance but I remember seeing them do alot of blitzing with the rovers and they were always around the ball.

Unfortunately, running 425 formations against 4 and 5 WR is a tough proposition in this game. In man to man, the players don't always line up on the guy they are supposed to be covering and not many teams have the personnel to play vs 4 and 5 WR.

If you are playing just plain online games, your best bet is to play nickel or dime. If you're in a dynasty (on or offline), you can use formations subs to put your best coverage players at the two SS positions and make it work.

In my dynasties, I usually use formation subs to have 4 separate personnel packages in 425.

In 425 Bear, I use 5-3 personnel. I put a DT at LE, move me LE to MLB (which lines up on the LOS in this formation), I move my MLB to the ROLB spot, my ROLB to SS2 and either a big safety or a fast LB at SS1. Obviously this is a run defense.

In 425 Over and Under, I usually swap out my SS's for either two CB or my FS and a CB. I use these for man coverage and passing downs vs. 3 or 4 WR formations. CBs and FS play much better man coverage than SS do.

My 425 Normal formation is base 425 personnel and I run mostly zone out of it.

The big thing is to focus on what your personnel is and utilize formation subs. If you can't, your best bet is to stick with nickel and dime.

                  1) Nickel and dime sets.

                  2) Your 4-4 and Bear Package are great vs the run. Thing with the Bear package is the 3-0-3 linemen techniques are great verses inside runs but if the outside man gets beat on the outside its a good chance its going for 6.

Before you take up any defense in this game, it'll help you out to see how they're played in real life. Verses 3 wide receiver sets I like the Crash 2 blitz and I usually user the SS thats blitzing.

Here's another blitz that I created that TCU actually uses that you may wanna try.

Theres a bunch of great blitzes in this playbook but most of it actually playcalling and formation matching.
