I actually did play my friends stick figure Atari game as a kid! The first game that grabbed me was Lakers vs Celtics on pc. I remember it had Abdul Jabbar do his sky hook! Still basically stick figures though. I missed out on Double Dribble though. Everyone was playing it!

Your First NBA Game!! What was it?
To catch your breath while the Elite vs 2k battle is going, take a sec & look back at the first NBA games you played. Or bball in general.

Re: Your First NBA Game!! What was it?
Double Dribble was the first basketball game I remember playing. There was also Tecmo NBA Basketball. My favorite from that era was Bulls vs Lakers - the first series to incorporate signature style!According to my old marketing professor, satisfaction is when product performance meets or exceeds consumer expectation. -
Re: Your First NBA Game!! What was it?
I played Lakers vs Celtics, but I know I played basketball games before that sometime in the 80's, even though they probably weren't called "NBA".
Probably some Bird vs Dr. J or Bird vs MJ or whatever they were called...but there were others as well.Last edited by youvalss; 09-05-2010, 03:49 PM.My Specs:

Re: Your First NBA Game!! What was it?
Tecmo was crazy! It was very possible to have 100 pt games. All players looked alike but they looked like people at least!
Magic Johnson Fastbreak was 2 on 2 action. You could steal every inbounds pass & run the score up like crazy. There was some game where you could knock players down coming up the court. It was meant to be a funny take on bball.
NBA Showdown by EA had signature moves. Jordan in one of his last game appearances did a crazy windmill slam. No recognition of positions though. Centers would bring the ball up the court!! People today have no idea how good they've got it!! I also remember hearing the "it's in the game" thing for the first time.Comment

Ha, nice, we have similar basketball histories. I can't remember for sure, but I may have played Jordan vs. Bird first on the NES. I did own Magic Johnson's Fast Break though (unlike Jordan vs. Bird). I totally used to think the Pepsi advertisement was sweet graphics.Tecmo was crazy! It was very possible to have 100 pt games. While those games featured NBA players, they weren't truly NBA games so to speak. My first NBA game was Tecmo NBA Basketball. This is where my love for the San Antonio Spurs initially took off (hello, Sean Elliott and Willie Anderson!)

And, to round things out, I also had NBA Showdown but word on the street is the SNES version had some players the Sega version did not, which may account for the lack of MJ and Barkley in my version. The Pistons had Dan O'Sullivan though so it all kind of evened out.

Honestly, for as arcade as NBA Jam was, that was the game that took things to the next level for me, in terms of the announcing, fast pace, 360 dunks, and realistic NBC-looking score overlay; so awesome at the time. Oh, and at half-time there was a real highlight tape (like a miniature Jam Session) featuring Horace Grant dunking and fist-pumping into the camera on the baseline. Coolest thing ever.

Re: Your First NBA Game!! What was it?
As a kid, started here:

but that wasn't an NBA game lol
First one was NBA Jam SNES
after that I was a NBA In the Zone guy plus Shootout '98
First Live was 2000 (later played '95 & '96)
Then played 2K1 on a friend's dreamcast and was hooked once they ported to XboxComment

Re: Your First NBA Game!! What was it?
Yeah, I'm pretty sure I played this one. My first console was a brownish thing called "Educate"...or something like that, and I got it in 1982. I'm pretty sure I had this game (or something similar) on it. Then I got my first computer in 1983, it was called Sinclair Spectrum. My Specs:
