Re: Play Action and Special Teams Still Suck
Wrong, wrong, wrong!!
Play action works sooo much better!! Do not believe the negativity, the games plays better post-patch.
As for special teams, kick off returns are near perfect, punt returns not so much. If you choose punt return middle and bring a linebacker or db back to pick up one extra blocker you can spring some nice returns, negating the need for any other tuning adjustments.
NCAA plays one great football game.
Thank you Ea, the best $60 I have spent in years.Comment

Re: Play Action and Special Teams Still Suck
Play Action works. It's not 100% of the time, but that is just fine.
Special Teams need reworked all the way, in every way, for NCAA 12. Punts, snaps, kickoff coverage, kickoff blocking, fake reverses, rugby punts, punt blocks, kick blocks....you get the point.
Disclaimer: I love this damn game! This is just an area that needs quite a bit of attention."Hard work beats talent, when talent isn't working hard.”Comment

Re: Play Action and Special Teams Still Suck
Why do people see a problem and instantly think that a patch is necessary?
You can't just magically create a patch out of nothing...it takes time, money, and resources. 3 patches is enough, time for them to get started on NCAA 12.
PA is fine and I agree with what J-Unit said regarding special teams. They need to do something different with it.Huskers | Chelsea FC | Minnesota United | OmahaComment

Re: Play Action and Special Teams Still Suck
As I posted in the post patch gameplay impressions thread, the play action is better... But yes, it still needs work... And it's gonna take more than a patch.
The DEs still beat the tackles too easily too often (though like I say, it's better), and they also need to speed up the play fake... It's way too slow relative to the rest of the game, so that by the time the passing icons pop it's a good 1-2 second count.
I'm sure some of you saw the Boise State win this week, and they way they scored on the play action, twice I believe... Anyways, I know the first one was just a little "show me" play action... Then bam! Up and ready to throw with the safety out of position.
More often than not this is the way the play action works... It's just a quick little fake to the back. In NCAA 11 the animations take too long... Which tend to leave your QB at the mercy of the defense.
I don't mind the play action not faking out the defense, but I do mind it resulting in a sack a disproportionate amount of the time...
But it's better with this patch and update than it was before. All ties severed...Comment

Re: Play Action and Special Teams Still Suck
Also, I noticed the play action is getting addressed with a patch in Madden.
So it appears that EA football didn't quite get the play action right this year...
But it's far from being a game killer in NCAA, because it's something that can be dealt with for the most part, so that it has minimal impact on the game. You can audible out if you see a blitz, roll out if you see a DE easily beating your tackle, or just suspend your disbelief (it is a video game after all) and chalk it up as a good play by the defense. All ties severed...Comment

Re: Play Action and Special Teams Still Suck
Looking at the patch notes, I am not sure what would have changed to make the PA work any different? The change to how the Rush sliders work?
This is the closest I could see that would impact it, unless Rush Defense slider changes also would impact it.
*Reduced the frequency of defenders successfully jumping the snap. Also adjusted how frequently they would jump early when the offense performed a fake snap.Comment
