Really? I haven't seen it go into the crowd. That's something I've wanted, and put on wishlists each year, to have the ball go into the crowd. Always got the response that it's hard to implement, how do you get the ball back on the court, etc.
Here's one instance when warping of the ball is perfectly fine for me.

Do the refs pick the ball up from the stands or the ball warps (just like Kyoto mentioned)?

I haven't seen it yet, but I did see the ball warp into Bynum's hands after it got stuck to the side of the basket support (by the cameraman).
That's an instance where it's totally justified to warp the ball into the hands of the players/refs.

Yeah it is. Or else, we will be waiting for someone to pick the ball up.

Anyway, to the guys who've seen it, how's the crowd reaction when the ball goes through them? Did they look at the ball? or just ignored it? Just curious...

I saw it a couple of times, and to me, it really wasn't all that special. Kinda reminds me of when you over throw the endzone in Madden and ball goes through the stadium wall.

ive seen the ball go into the crowd after a failed alley oop. the camera cuts to the bench or a players face then the ref magically has the ball once it cuts back to the action.

Oh cool. That's better than witnessing the ball warp.

its better than having an invisible wall though in the future the crowd should react like in MLB THE SHOW whenever a ball or player ends up in the crowd....that would be a nice little thing..

True. I see what SpSoloSr is saying though too. From what I could see, the ball just disappears into the crowd. I've requested the removal of that wall for years, but I never quite figured out how I'd want it implemented, knowing full well it might be difficult to create a totally interactive 10 rows of fans or so that could tip and/or catch the ball then return it to the floor.

Like a lot of things, I'm just pumped to see these guys willing to take the steps and get the ball rolling, so to speak. Swatting the ball into the crowd is ten times better than swatting the ball against that weird invisible wall-o-death. Product: upgrade!

It's not that it's "cool" to go into the crowd. It's that the glass wall is gone - which was REALLY annoying. That's the point.

And yes, it does warp back to the court and I'd rather they do that than have some have to go get it.

I saw a youtube video of the demo yesterday, where I think it was Rondo who tipped the ball out of Fisher's hands one time, and the ball went out and jump on the mid-court sideline counter (desk) and kept rolling into the front row...

Pretty cool new feature but I bet it looks weird and glitchy.

Oh well. That would have been a great opportunity to have an angry fan and disgruntled ref throwing the ball back and forth to each other followed by the fan getting tossed.
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

Haha didn't that happen with a fan and ref at a Magic game last season?
