    Djwlfpack's 'Average Joe's' NHL 11 sliders

    *********UPDATED 4/14/11**********

So, I'm by no means an expert at this game. In fact, I'd likely classify myself as average or possibly below-average; it's hard to tell though since I don't play online.

Anyway, I've had a few people ask me what settings I've been using in NHL 11 so I thought I'd throw them out here. Feel free to play games with them and offer up some feedback; I'll gladly make tweaks/changes if a trend develops.

If you are an expert at the NHL series, these sliders likely won't be for you.

For me, they work out really well. I get a good challenge from the CPU and stats are usually pretty even across the board, with time of possession usually being the only real difference, and even then it's only like 1 min. or something.

OK, here are the settings. Sliders with 2 numbers has HUM number then CPU's.

    Difficulty: All-Star
    Period Length: 10 min.
    Offsides: Delayed
    Icing: On

    CPU Difficulty Adjustment: 0
    CPU Strategy Adjustment: 3
    Human Strategy Adjustment: 0
    CPU Faceoff Difficulty: 5
    Fight Difficulty: 3
    CPU Penalties: 6
    CPU Teammate Penalties: 6

    Pass Assist: 0
    Manual Passing: On
    Pass Speed: 2
    Saucer Pass Speed: 3
    Pass Accuracy: 0/0
    Pass Reception Ease: 1/1
    Pass Interceptions: 3/3

    Shot Accuracy: 0/0

These aren't too bad. Have you made any changes? I was only able to play one game tonight, but will do more tomorrow. I liked the fact that the other team actually had more time on attack than me!

And the shot totals weren't too bad... How is it going for you?

I haven't had a chance to fire up the game b/c of work, but plan on getting in some games either tomorrow afternoon or on Friday, which is my day off. So, no changes as of yet.

My stats were pretty even across the board, which is what I was aiming for. Shots are in the 25-30 range for me.

I think you might be pretty dead with your sliders. I wasted lots of time tweaking every single setting. The game plays very well at default All Star. You just need to tweak a few things to get it on par with your skill level and your golden.

I definitely have to do some tweaking. Using the new tuner, the CPU scores like crazy. Plus, they always seem to score on the goalie's right corner.

Think I'll reduce the attribute effects as well, because the breakaway dekes on the goalie are way too deadly now, and a little too "fast" to be realistic.

I haven't had a chance to play with the latest tuner, but plan on getting a game or two in today. I think raising HUM Goalie Reaction a click or two should help; we don't want to be pitching shutouts every game but we don't want to give up a lot of soft goals, either.

Personally, I love that the CPU actually uses deke moves this year. Seemed in the past they only did on shootouts, and even then, it was usually just a toe drag. I've really had to pay attention to my positioning on defense this year, that's for sure.

              Re: Djwlfpack's 'Average Joe's' NHL 11 sliders

Finally got a chance to get a game in with the latest tuner set. I really enjoyed it. Let's take a look at the stats

New York Islanders (me) vs. Tampa Bay Lightning

              Final Score: Islanders 3-1

              Shots: TB 41-29
              Hits: TB 11-6
Faceoffs (I'm terrible at these): TB 26-19
              Time on Attack: TB 7:20-7:10
              Passing: TB 70% (114-162); NYI 72% (157-218)
Penalty Minutes: Each team with 4 min.
              Powerplay: TB 0-2; NYI 1-2

Very even game and I was honestly lucky to come out with the win. DiPietro definitely bailed me out with some great saves. It took me a period to figure out how to create space as the 1st period saw the CPU block a ton of my shot attempts.

Looking forward to playing more games. Until EA confirms that it has fixed Be A GM, I'm just going into Play Now games, putting the controller in the center and hitting X to get a random matchup and then I'll usually play as the home team. It's a nice way to try out teams that I'd normally not bother with. I really liked using NYI and wouldn't mind doing a Playoff Mode or something with the team.

                Re: Djwlfpack's 'Average Joe's' NHL 11 sliders

Played another game last night, St. Louis Blues (me) vs. Toronto Maple Leafs. Man, I really like Stl.'s third jerseys!

Anyway, I wound up losing 2-1 in OT. I scored the first goal late in the first period but couldn't register any more and Toronto tied things up late in the 3rd and then Phil Kessel scored on a nice wraparound that caught me by surprise in OT.

Can't recall all the stats, but I know shot totals for both teams were in the 30's and time on attack was pretty even, as well.

Now that I've done more research and see that BAG is pretty much fixed in terms of the AHL glitch, I think I'm ready to fire that mode up. I'll be using the Avs and of course, using these sliders.

                  Re: Djwlfpack's 'Average Joe's' NHL 11 sliders

Today was the first time I've played this game since my last post (been busy with work), so wanted to post some results.

Game 1: New York Rangers (me) 1, Calgary Flames 0
Game 2: New Jersey Devils 3, Los Angeles Kings 2 (me). I led 2-1 in this game but gave up 2 3rd period goals to lose.
Game 3: Colorado Avalanche (me) 5, Vancouver Canucks 0. This was a preseason game in my Be A GM. The Canucks had their backup goalie in the game, so that would explain the offensive explosion.

Shot totals looked good in all 3 games. I played really good defense in Game 1 and held Calgary to 18 shots. New Jersey outshot me 35-18 in Game 2, as I had a hard time getting into the offensive zone.

The Devils are shot-happy in this year's game.
I played them earlier and lost 7-1 and they had 47 shots.
I am actually on my 3rd version of my test season and all 3 times I've played them they've scored a lot and shot a lot.
I cannot stop Elias and Kovalchuk at all.
                    Last game.....Elias - 3 PP goals, 2 assists. Kovalchuk - 1 G, 4 assists.

Downloaded the latest tuner today and man, the CPU is even more aggressive than before! In the 2 games I played, the CPU outshot me and had more time on the attack than I did.

I lost 4-2 in Game 1 to Edmonton (pre-season in my BAG with the Avs) and looked like I was going to lose Game 2 to Minnesota as I fell behind 2-0 but managed to win 5-2 (scored 2 empty net goals).

If you don't play sound defense, you will get torched.

As a result, do you think you'll make any slider adjustments?

One small change after the latest tuner; moved CPU Goalie Reaction up to 2.

These sliders are working great for me, even though I'm on a 4-game losing streak with my Avs. Last game was a 1-0 shootout loss to the Rangers @ MSG. Great defensive battle; I had several good looks, but hit the post twice and 'Quist made a lot of nice saves to keep me off the scoreboard.
