    Trojan Man 2.0: Back in the Saddle Again

    The title is purely in jest. I don't really like Aerosmith or third-person self-address, but this sounded best poetically.

    I will be assuming administrative control of ACQB in order to relieve the administrative burden that has been laid upon Kasey.

    Chief on my list of things to do:
    --Retain owners lost during the past two days;
    --Implement a set of clear and fair rules for league play;
    --Decide the matter of restarting post-patch or staying the course;
    --Addressing issues of fair representation;
    --Establishing a fair and transparent grievance procedure;
    --Restoring league ethos and cultivating a positive, energetic vibe

    We will pause league progress for a couple of days to discuss these issues and implement a set of guidelines going forward that will maintain the vision of the league while also improving league administration.

    This post will expand as I add elements of my vision for how we're going to do things henceforth. All elements of this vision will be open for discussion.

    Cabinet/Representation

    I wish to have a cabinet of three. I want to select one owner from three prominent "family trees" in ACQB, meaning that I want one person that represents a handful of owners from different camps/groups of friends. I also wish to bring in members that offer a different perspective from my own, but who are measured and balanced. I wish to have veto power in the form of a double vote, which would be used only in the most dire circumstances. All general league matters I wish to be decided by the three with the simple majority winning.

    Rules

    A tentative list of things we might consider doing:

    1. Limiting 4th down conversion attempts to the following scenarios: 4th and inches anywhere beyond mid-field; 4th and 5 or less between the 40 and the 30 yard lines. One QB sneak or FB dive per game in short-yardage situations, with subsequent attempts drawing from the rest of the playbook.

    2. Limiting running up the score in the following ways: with a commanding lead (28 points or more) in the 4th quarter, the leading team should achieve at least a 50-50 run to pass ratio; teams with such a lead will be barred from attempting 4th down conversions.

    3. Allowing one "special" hot-route adjustment per play on defense outside of all normal shifts, slants and adjustments available on the strategy pad.

    4. Allowing one "special" hot-route adjustment per play on offense outside of the basic audibles, line calls and max protect commands.

    5. Establishing etiquete guidelines that prevent owners from: abusing motion and disallowing your opponent's defense time to reset; quick-snapping your opponent; quick-throws to backs or TEs that take advantage of the lack of responsiveness by OLBs.

    Guidelines

    Softer than rules, we will strive to:

    Vary playcalls and attempt to achieve a realistic mix of runs and passes, run concepts and pass concepts;

    Avoid excessive rollouts with the caveat that they are fine when done to avoid pressure or trying to save a broken play, and that they are fine as a semi-regular strategy when a team has a QB who is known for using his legs as a crucial part of his game.

    Rules will be decided on by the committee and will stay in effect for a full season, with the option of re-evaluating at season's end.

    Grievances

    Grievances will be brought to the commissioner and the committee via PM or Meebo. They will not appear in our main threads.

    Grievances will be evaluated quarterly by the committee. The committee will decide on and publish a set of graduated punishments for owners who receive excessive complaints. These will be administered either at the midway point or at the end of the season.

    Punishments might follow this sequence:
    --Warning issued by the committee;
    --Suspension of 2-4 games;
    --Removal from the league.

    Grievances may include rule violations, blatant disregard for league guidelines, or disrespect of owners.

    League Votes

    Most issues will be decided by the committee. The committee will have the option to put up a select set of issues for a full-league vote, especially when the issue(s) at hand cannot be fairly decided by the committee.

    All of this material is tentative and is open for discussion. We will decide these matters before we resume league play.

    In addition to these matters, I ask that ALL owners PM me if they would refuse to stay on board if we re-started to get opening day rosters and better stats by starting league play with the new patch.

          Makes sense, no issues here.

          I like these, seems fair.

          2. Limiting running up the score in the following ways: with a commanding lead (28 points or more) in the 4th quarter, the leading team should achieve at least a 50-50 run to pass ratio; teams with such a lead will be barred from attempting 4th down conversions.

          I think this is big. Seems like a few guys are actually trying to run up the score. Not a fan of it.

          3. Allowing one "special" hot-route adjustment per play on defense outside of all normal shifts, slants and adjustments available on the strategy pad.

          Fair enough. I am not quick enough to even do one anyway.

          4. Allowing one "special" hot-route adjustment per play on offense outside of the basic audibles, line calls and max protect commands.

          What are the details here? I like to keep guys in to block, does that mean I cant make another adjustment? What about the smart routes. I like to hot-route to in/outs and then use the smart route to get it past the first. Would that not be allowed?

          5. Establishing etiquete guidelines that prevent owners from: abusing motion and disallowing your opponent's defense time to reset; quick-snapping your opponent; quick-throws to backs or TEs that take advantage of the lack of responsiveness by OLBs.

          Agree with this

          Seems fair

          Answers/thoughts in bold. Overall sounds great. And of course welcome back, you already know I like the move.

              I'm confused about the offensive Hot routing too. I hot route and smart route guys all the time. Also quick snapping is necessary on first down. Otherwise you'll get a cheap delay of game penalty.

              Edit: also when you say vary playcalling does that mean an owner can keep calling screen plays but out of different formations?(serious question here) Or only rushing three defenders routinely? A lot of that goes on here.

                  One other thing. Since EA decided to strip the playbooks even further, I really don't see anything wrong with multiple hot routes. Its a work around to the limited books imo.

                    I have spoken to both Tombsong and Illustrator today. I will have more information on them and other of our departed members shortly.

                      Seems fair to me. The one thing I don't like is the multiple hot routes. I should be able to hot route whoever I want. I will often call a play and see what the defense is doing and will need to create certain route combos to get a guy open. Also, I may need to hot route someone to block. Other times, I am bluffing the hot route. I don't see why restrictions are needed on those. I think one of the best things about football is playing chess at the line. Mattray and I, in the brief half we got to play before our disco, had a couple of awesome bouts of changing our plays at the line. It's what makes football great.

                        I don't have much time, but I just wanted to chime in and say that I like where you are headed with these rules Trojan. I also like some of the points that others have brought up as well; I will throw in my 1/2 cent a little later when I have more time to post.

                            Way to drop the hammer man. It all looks good, but I do share the same question about the Offensive audibles as a lot of other do. I don't audible a whole lot other than leaving backs in to block and smart routes.

                              Looks very good Troj! I really really like the adjustment rules. They limit garbage, but don't limit really much real football strategy.
