    20 Years and No Love

I was reading an article on GameSpot.com and it pointed out that this is the 20th year for the NHL series by EA. I had forgotten this fact upon the game's release.

I am surprised that EA didn't give the game its due by releasing a 20th anniversary edition as it did for Madden. I think the NHL series (minus NHL 2002 and 2003) has been one of the most consistent in regards to quality and popularity.

I was hoping that an anniversary edition would contain one of the originals (i.e. NHL 94), classic teams, jerseys, arenas, etc. Again, just surprised that EA wouldn't offer something with this classic and popular series to celebrate its 20th year....And 20 great years (minus 2)...

I am still hoping EA takes a look at releasing a Genesis pack on XBL and PSN that contains Madden, NHL, FIFA, and NBA Live (and Coach K) in its original Genesis form. My picks would be Madden 93, NHL 94, Live 95....I would pay $10 for these titles....

Yeah Eski, it seems as though EA Canada's NHL series has very quietly over the past few years, become one of the top sports games out there.

It's the 20th game, but it's not the 20th anniversary.

The 1st anniversary wasn't the year the first game came out. First anniversary was the year the second game came out. So this is technically the 19th anniversary so NHL 12 would be 20th anniversary.

Besides, the series hasn't been that great except for 94 and 95 and now 2010 and 2011. Other than that I feel EA Hockey has been crap.

The late 90's versions and 04 weren't that bad either to be honest. I would also figure the majority has found it to be the better of the 2 since 08.

1991 - 2010...Mathematically you are incorrect. If you count 1991, this is the 20th year the NHL series has been in existence.

My opinion differs. All NHL games on the Sega were great. NHL 97 for the PS One was decent and NHL 98 is probably one of the best of the series (although it was easy to score).

The early 2000's were rough as EA went off the charts regarding direction. Except for NHL 2000 and 2001. Both were awesome especially on the PC.

Yeah, I would've loved to have seen NHL 94-96 and 98 included somewhere in the game. Perhaps it is a licensing issue? If they just used numbers, I'd be OK with that.

A little documentary going over the history of the series would've been cool, too.

You don't count 1991 as the 1st anniversary though.

If you celebrate a one year anniversary or something, doesn't it usually happen a year after the occasion you're celebrating happens?

You don't turn 1 when you're born, you turn 1 the year after you're born. So it's like the same thing.

yup, just like 2000 wasn't the 1st year of the 21st century (2001 was)

that being said, NHL was great from the first, until 1998. then it was pretty pisspoor until 2008

or rather, didn't live up to 1995 and 1998
