Funny how things work. The idea that the demo is an early July build actually originated here at OS from a post made by Simon Sherr, the animation director, and then reposted on the EA forums.

Re: EA Sports MMA Demo Available, Post Impressions Here (360, PS3)
When it comes to sways and pretty much everything else depends on the fighter you are using. That is something I always noticed, some people simply move faster then others.
Like Overeem kicks faster then Lashley, but Lashley punches faster then Overeem. I can sway better with Miller then Shields. Lashley can take more shots to the head then Overeem can.
Kind of funny last night Overeem rocked me, but when he was coming in I swayed and caught him with a hook that rocked him. Followed it up with 2 straights and a hook that dropped him and then I just finished him off.
That was the funniest thing ever. And I must say a diving into guard punch with Lashley pretty much ends the fight 90% of the time.Comment

He doesn't attempt nearly as many, at least in my experience doing Reem vs Reem. Lashley vs Reem, why wouldn't he want Lashley on his back? Don't forget Reem's ground game is pretty solid and he threw Brett Rogers to the ground pretty easily in his last fight.Comment

Re: EA Sports MMA Demo Available, Post Impressions Here (360, PS3)
Takedowns are RIDICULOUSLY magnetic. Literally get stuck in animations when the AI attempts a takedown. Watching Overeem's feet shuffling backwards while he was standing in place?Just get sucked/locked into it and can't move or dodge to the side or back or anything.
Then there was what should've been a flying knee to the face but noooooo stuck in the animation and taken down or it just entirely misses and there's some sort of double invisible wall contact going on. They're also possible/effective from too far of a range. Thankfully it was easy to sweep.
There's also no recovery window I noticed. Hit him with a knee, bounces of the cage, headkick and the next thing I know I'm getting taken down before I have the chance to press another button? WTF?
Really appriciated the takedown attempt when I was trying to touch gloves too.Stuffed that one at least.
Everything else is nice, especially the blood. I like how big the puddles get and how they're all over the place. Sub system also fantastic,I hope both UFC and the WWE games adopt it. However getting stuck in these magnetic takedown attempts is simply unacceptable. Can't move away or side step because your fighter all of a sudden becomes locked in place or hit them out of it because it just up and overrides any striking animation. Can only press back on the right stick.
Glitch to report. Between rounds Lennon Jr. announced "and still heavyweight champion..." I thought they were stopping the fight due to Lashley's cheek having been removed but I guess it was just a random glitch. The other option is that I had hit him after the bell and that might've caused it too.
No stoppages at all I guess. I just put it on easy got in the thai clinch with Overeem, elbowed his right eye for all of round 1 and elbowed his left eye for all of round 2. Can't count the times he fell over, both eyes are completly closed and his face(/Overeem's arms) is entirely covered in blood. I think his facial structure actually changed. He looks like Mike Tyson now. Lashley's blood got on Overeem's face and he wiped it off. That was cool. Though I guess it might've been sweat? His face changed again. Now he looks like Ru Paul if he/she/it was up crying all night and had been wearing red eyeliner.
Bah accidental KO from the sprawl. 548/638 in strikes.Last edited by goh; 10-05-2010, 03:26 PM.Comment

Working the body is actually effective! Slows the takedowns a lot. Another great job on damage display there as well. It also leads to actual KOs instead of just TKOs. Lashley went down just like like Apollo Creed in Rocky IV on a body shot KO. I was like ah crap,he's dead.Comment

Jake Shields(me) vs Miller(cpu)
It was a close match with Miller almost locking in two subs. Got in some decent work on the ground and did a great job taking me down.
I landed some bigger blows in the stand up and on the ground stood up from mount twice because the CPU sucks once mounted.
This was a really close fight and don't see anyway shape or form the judging would of came out like below. This looks as if i just straight dominated, but it looked much closer.
Judge 1
Round 1 - 10/8 Jake
Round 2 - 10/7 Jake
Round 3 - 10/10 Jake
Total - 30/25 Jake
Judge 2
Round 1 - 10/9
Round 2 - 10/8
Round 3 - 10/10
Total - 30/27 Jake
Judge 3
Round 1 - 10/8 Jake
Round 2 - 10/7 Jake
Round 3 - 10/10 Jake
Total - 30/25 JakeComment

Not that wacky. Ive never seen a 10-7 round in UFC 09 or 10. Rarely see 10-8 rounds unless a person is clearly dominating.Comment

I think I'll be passing on this game. It's nice, doesn't keep me coming back for more. I played the demo for the last time sometime last week and haven't felt the urge to play it again.Originally posted by MoJust once I'd like to be the one they call a jerk off.Originally posted by MoYou underestimate my lazinessOriginally posted by Mo**** ya

Wow. The striking is much more responsive with the "classic" controls. It really opens your striking game, especially since the left trigger becomes the body modifier.
Initially I was reluctant to give the "classic" controls a shot because I'd become pretty good with the "Total Strike Controls", but man, what a difference.
I recommend to anyone currently using "Total Strike Controls" to try out the "classic" setting. Your grappling will suffer at first, as you'll be pressing "B" to defend takedowns and such, but the re-learning is well worth it.
Give it a shot. It can't hurt. Not like you're the one getting punched in the face.
Overall, solid game with potential. They do need to tone down the takedown attempts, and polish a few things up. I do appreciate the practice of defending against it though haha. Most likely will not be a first day purchase, but eventually I will. I'll give this a rent first.Comment

Re: EA Sports MMA Demo Available, Post Impressions Here (360, PS3)
Anybody else finding it really easy just to lay and pray on the cpu even on Legend. I have found that if I get the cpu down on the ground then the round is basically over. It seems to easy to just lay there and pepper shots. By the third round I can typically sub or mount the cpu because they have blown all their stamina. Pretty disappointing to find this on the demo.Comment
