Re: LEAF NATION IS EVREY NATION
Toronto,Ca- It was a weird day today at the Air Canada Center in downtown Toronto as the Brian Burke experiment came to an end. What was so weird was the timing, only days before the preseason was set to begin.
Richard Peddie of Maple Leaf Sport and Entertainment made the announcement at 12 local.
The reason was Peddie didn't like the direction the club was traveling and he didn't like Burke's treatment of players such as Thomas Kabrle and Nazim Kadri.
The repalcement, a complete unkown to the NHL circuit the Stan Drovchas GM/Coach of a Northern Alberta Rural Hockey Leagues Grande Prairie Storm, the team has won three championships out of four. Many believed that Stan would have made the jump to the WHL this year but none foresaw such a change for the young GM. -

His Guy
Doug Gilmour Named Head Coach
Sept 19/2010- Toronto,Ont.,Can- Big news filtering out f Toronto as GM Stan Drovchas names Doug Gilmore Head Coach of the Maple Leafs.
"He was my number one guy, from start to finish I think Dougie has what it takes to mold a young team into a winnig squad." said Drovchas
Gilmour after putting his Toronto cap on smiles from ear to ear." I'm just glad to be part of this great organization again and I hope we can turn this thing around. I'm really exicited about working with these young players"
Gilmours history with the Leafs: The Leafs acquired Gilmour on January 2, 1992. Toronto fans did not need to wait long for the Gilmour acquisition to pay off, as the feisty forward produced well for the remainder of the 91-92 Season . He then went on to have a breakout year, scoring a franchise-record 127 points during the 92-93 regular season. Gilmour was the runner-up for the Hart Trophy as regular-season MVP and won the Selke Trophy as best defensive forward, the first major NHL award that a Leaf player had won since 1967. In the conference final, Gilmour's team met Wayne Gretzky and the LA. Kings. Toronto was leading the series, three games to two, and many fans, including CBC's Don Cherry, were hoping for an all-Canadian final as the Montreal Canadiens had already advanced. However, during overtime of game six, Gretzky high-sticked Gilmour, drawing blood, without being assessed a penalty by the referee, Kerry Fraser, then scored the winning goal moments later to stave off elimination which ignited the '100th Stanley Cup Controversy'. During game seven back at Maple Leaf Gardens, the Leafs were trailing 5-3 after Gretzky completed his Hat Trick. The Leafs scored to close the gap to one goal, but couldn't find the equalizer, and the Kings advanced to the finals. That was the last real playoff run with Gilmour and the leafs.Comment

Big Changes Ahead
Tor,Ont- In a mid day press confrence Gm Stan Drovchas said that he will be for sure moving a defenseman before the pre season starts. The way our team is structured there is way too much money tied up in the defense core. To survive in the NHL today you must try ane even out your payroll between your defense and your forwards
He also said that the much talked about Kaberle might not be moved. This pre season could be an important one if you are a Maple Leafs fan.Attached FilesComment

I will keep an eye on this one since Bh and I already run a leafs dynasty here, will be intresting to see how they all pan out.
Just a small request, could you please shrink your opening picture, it really throws off everything else.Last edited by BlueLineBomber; 10-10-2010, 07:08 AM.Comment

Leafs Look Good in Openerhttp://
-It may just be the pre-season but that don't mean that leaf fans wont be overjoyed to see thier team beat up on the Buffalo Sabres. Both Teams didnt have thier number one guys on the ice, but they did have alot of parts of thier first squads. Including the first line's for both teams. The Leafs first line combined for 6 points while Buffalos combined for 4 points. Rookie hopeful Nazim Kadri looked strong in the game by potting a nice back hander into the net in the third period, while being shorthanded. In the ongoing evaluation of defenseman GM Stan Drovchas could not have missed the carlessness of Mike Komisarek in his own end when he gave the puck away 3 times leading to 2 Buffalo goals and a -2 Rating.Attached FilesComment

Yeah im leaing towards kaberle and i did resizse that big pic,,,lol but kaberle also has the most trade value and i do want either a top 6 forward or a high draft pic since boston owns my soul in terms of draft picks.Last edited by Drovchas; 10-10-2010, 03:02 PM.Comment

Re: LEAF NATION IS EVREY NATION
Maybe target a big #1 center. I dont blame you man, the only one remaining form the D core on my leafs is Komisarek, and thats only because no one would take him, he is gone as soon as I find someone willing.
Nice win on buffalo, good on Steeger, I like the way he plays.Comment

Re: LEAF NATION IS EVREY NATION
(Toronto ,ONT)What a wild pre-season game tonight here at the ACC. The home town leafs jumped out to an early lead beacuse of some sloppy play, even though a lengthy wait for a confirmed goal after Vetren Referee Bill McCreary initially waived it off due to a kick in, it was later reversed and N.Kulemin had his first of the pre-season. Going into the third period the game was level at one after a Zach Hamil goal. The teams traded goals early in the third includinding a absolute gem by Grabovsky as he shot it between his legs into the top corner. With a little less than 2 minutes to go Trent Whitfield scored to give Boston the lead late i the third. With only 44 seconds to go Kaberle's blast from the point notched it at 4 a piece. Toronto not willing to play an extra period in pre season capped it off when Phanuef broke a pass off in the neutral zone and carried the puck into the boston zone, when he capped the game off with a beauty deke on Thomas. At least for one night it really didnt seem like the pres season as this game was very enjoyable for every one, except the coaches that is.
-when asked about his late third period goal Phanuef started grinning,"You know you see Kessy and Bozak trying those dekes in pratice all the time, maybe next time they will come and ask me for some pointers."
Mike Komisarek played anorther dismal game again tonight as he commited four blatent turnovers, speculation grows as one reporter over heard GM Drovchas as saying " He might as well pack his bags tonight." as he stormed out of the press box during a second period interview.
