Re: Really, EA? Goalie AI is bad
I know what you mean.
I`ve seen so many goalie FAILs,it`s not funny.
Playing the puck is a common one.
Right now,....the only temp. fix is to go into player edit and go through all the goalie`s and turn down the puck playing attribute.
I`m still tweaking this,....but tuning them from mid 80`s down to the mid 60`s is helping.
I need a job EA NHL,seriously I do......and you need me,and people like me to be testing and working with your developers. -

It's Marty Turco, I've seen him make a few of those plays last year with Dallas, and it won't shock me if he does the same in Chicago.Comment

Re: Really, EA? Goalie AI is bad
Yup,..I realize that this is Turco as well,....who does like to play the puck a lot,...but the AI consistently FAILs at it.
The only work around till the AI is fixed,....is to reduce the AI`s tendencies to play the puck.Comment

Re: Really, EA? Goalie AI is bad
Thank you!!! This is the one thing they have to improve in order for me to fully enjoy this game. They move in hyperspeed. EA made the goalies animations horribly. They are basically just there to stop cheese goals and not allow the same goal in every time (which doesn't work). I'm getting so sick of that horrible animation where the puck hits off the goalies shoulder goes in the air and all of a sudden the goalie uses this swing his arm move and flails at the puck. In real life goalies don't do that crap unless it's total desperation. I'm sorry but a simple shot from outside the circles should not lead to a desperation save. I think the main problem is rebound control. I will say they improved that aspect by having goalies suck pucks in but every shot off their pads leads to a horrible rebound and the goalie having to go into their horrific animations.
Goalies absolutely have to be addressed. The way they move is absolutely horrible. This is no question the worst part of this game.NHL-Minnesota Wild

Re: Really, EA? Goalie AI is bad
I've seen a lot of times this year where the puck is literally right infront of the goalie, only to sit in his butterfly and look at the puck.
Or they make an attempt to cover it and miss it.... who misses a cover up right infront of themselves...?Xbox LIVE GT: oALEXtheGREATo

Re: Really, EA? Goalie AI is bad
I think the goalies do pretty well for the most part, but some things are just frustrating beyond belief.
I think the most frustration comes from gathering the puck, rebounds, and desperation saves.
A lot of the time they will just sit on pucks that are right in front of them, instead of trying to get them (To a certain extent, this isn't so bad, as a lot of the time goalies can't see the puck, and that's when you get those garbage goals poked through), but a lot of the problem comes from the ability of the AI to gather up the puck. It's possible for the AI to take the puck that was sitting right in front of their pads, and then simply gather it, and roof it point blank. It would be one thing if they poked it under the pad, or maybe pushed it too the side, but then just scoop it and roof it. It looks terrible, and it's tough to guard since your player doesn't seem to be able to gather the puck as well as the AI can.
The desperation saves work sometimes, but they seem to lead to more goals for me, than they do saves. It's not that they are bad animations, it's that the AI uses them at times when it just doesn't make any sense.
I was playing this morning, and Richards was skating from the bottom right corner behind the net, and as he skated out to the from the corner Halak dove onto his side, and stacked the pads...to which Richards did a backhand (that really slow pushing backhand animation also drives me insane). Later in the game Halak tried to slide across the net to make a save, that would have been awesome, but unfortunately he was already at the left post and just slid in place as the puck shot under his arm.
I think that the system isn't horribly flawed, the goalies play pretty well for most of the game. It's just those few frustrating moments that you can't control that lead to goals that make me rage.Comment

Re: Really, EA? Goalie AI is bad
You mean where the goalie skates behind the net to get the puck and he does one of two things:
1: You're the only defender, and basically the only player from both sides, by the goalie. You call for the pass and instead of him just "pushing" the puck to you, he basically shoots it above your shoulder around the boards to......wait for it......the opposing player coming down the ice!
2: Or where the goalie, once again behind the net, decides to pass the puck up and OVER the net where it lands in front for an easy open netter?
3: Or where the goalie comes out to play the puck by the offensive zone faceoff circle when there are OPPOSING players there?
4: Or.....well, you get the picture....hopefully EA does.
These poor goalie AI moments have ruined quite a few games for me.Comment
