I'm in the same boat; mostly offline player that's just trying to figure out when I'm going to break down and pick this up. I said no more games after 2K11 but the reviews from guys on the boards here have all been good.

EG, if you can provide any more offline impressions, that would be great. Are you noticing that the CPU fighters play to their strengths, i.e. a wrestler looks to bring the fight to the mat while a striker will keep it standing?

    How is the difficulty?

I find it difficult if you don't play to your own fighter's strength. If you take Rogers and try to make him be a submission specialist, you'll get killed.

Honestly, I've just been doing exhibition fights, and haven't paid too much attention to the style of the AI guy, especially since I've been doing all CAF type fights. Like I did Lesnar vs. Tyson, Lesnar vs. Fedor, Rampage vs. Evans, etc.

It's a blast though, the controls are just awesome and kill the UFC game. If UFC doesn't steal these for the 2012 game, then they are insane.

I'm really excited for the first live broadcast Tuesday night. Want to see how this goes off with live announcers and what not. Should be a cool experience.

        2. The ability to choose the type of throws you wanted to do in career mode or create a fighter.

This is one aspect UFC 2010 is better. I found it odd going to all these camps and you can't learn ANY throws. Makes making a judo fighter kind of boring because you can't learn any throw at all.

Would have cool that if you wanted to learn Judo throws you had to go to Judo school. Wanted to learn suplexes had to go to wrestling school. Want to learn dirty boxing go to Randy Coutoure camp.

The way the camps are in this game, you only get to learn a special move from these camps. Which is find and dandy, but camps & styles also have their own unique way of throws and sweeps too.

I created a Judo fighter, went to Judo school just to find out the only thing I could learn there was inverted kneebar, knee bar and jumping arm bar. That was a huge let down.

No game so far has captured the true beauty of Judo. All the different kind of throws, sweeps, etc they have.

Speaking of sweeps, that needs to be improved upon. I want to see butterfly guard with butterfly sweeps. Kimura sweeps from guard. Kimura from the body clinch.

Inverted triangle chokes. Crucifix mount. More disicpline based takedowns and throws.

This game has a great base, just needs to be expanded upon. Specifically the takedowns and throws.
As someone who practiced Judo, Sweeps, & throws are the foundation of this art.. They rely much less on submissions & joint minipulation then Ju Jitsu... My Judo training also helped me win a fight.. Guess what I used, a Sweep, which lead me to get the mount position to end the fight.. Another great thing about Judo is.. The first thing you are taught is how to fall... Yes, there's a way to fall to avoid injury.. Why do you think pro wrestlers spend hrs falling on the mat? To reduce injury.. When thrown, you go with it, lead into it to reduce the impact, & never land flat on your back.. Judo is a great discipline. I just hate wearing GI's..

That's good to hear. I agree that this game, control-wise is miles ahead of where UFC is. I LOVE that I can actually go for submissions in EA's game and not have to worry about ripping skin off my palm while "shining" the R-stick. I hated that system so much, it's why I won't go back to 09 and I skipped 10 all together after not liking the demo and seeing the reviews on this site.

I've had trouble with kicks in the Demo using Overeem but I know that the more I practice, the better I'll get.

I'll be getting this for PS3. I hope the figther share is good on that system.

I might get this tomorrow. I'm trying to decide if I should trade in some games I've yet to play like Uncharted, Assassin's Creed and Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops towards this game.

I would hope, and see no reason why it can't, but they should at some point be able to patch the fighter share to work on both consoles. So if you make a great Lesnar on 360, you should be able to download it on PS3. They did eventually fix that for NCAA Football so it should work here too.

Dave, from watching your video, I really think your stand up would improve if you learned to bob and weave (hold the block button, remain stationary, and flick the left stick up, down, left, or right). It's a terrific skill that can really help you avoid some strikes while your opponent spam punches.

Wait, so there's no Fighter Share on the PS3? Or are you just talking about being able to share created files across both consoles?

Oh, and add Madden 11 to the list of games I'm considering trading towards this. If I get this, I need to trim my collection and I have NCAA 11 and play that much more than Madden 11.

Game-related question: Can you have Title fights in Exhibition? I'd like to set up my own cards and defend titles, if possible.

while missing alot of the signature mocap stuff in UFC, each fight is for a lack of a better word organic. You may not have these signature moves but it more then makes up for it with the specific ratings...combo speed, power for each hand and foot, control from each position,hart,chin...really makes each fighter feel different. I find the momentum of each fight to sway back n forth much more then the UFC game, making for exciting finishes.
the bobbing weaving and parrying along with the hit stick just feel right..and the clinch game is much more responsive and easier to grasp..The ground game seems a bit shallow but is mostly about fighting for position, which is realistic...another thing done well wich makes the fights flow are the transitions between the clinch, ground, and standing aspects..you don't find your self just stuck or stalled unless you have blown your wad...this is all single player impressions.

I'm still on the fence and have some questions for you guys. With everyone basically having the same style (everyone throws the same punches the same way) does your strategy change any from fighter to fighter? Obviously with a wrestler you go for TD's, strikers you try to keep it standing. But, for instance does your standup game and what you're trying or able to do change any between say KJ Noons and Nick Diaz? Both solid strikers, but with extremely different styles and capabilities standing. So does the way you approach each guy change any, or is it pretty much the same striking concepts with both.

The game to me in the final version looks too fast. Punches are flying out there now without much strategy it seems.

So I guess my big question is will proper strategy, better strategy get you the win in this game 9/10 times?

Also, I was wondering if it's realistically hard to nullify reach advantages?

Lastly, would you find yourself wanting to get inside of Fedors, powerful but looping punches. Are you rewarded for that and keeping the pressure on him? Basically, do real life strategies transfer over well to the game?

each hand and foot has a power rating, so you want circle away from guys power..Diaz has range but lacks power, while noons has way more power and and good combo speed from his boxing but you don't have to worry bout kicks with him. The times I have fought fedor I felt he tried to take me down more so then he realistically would, I was using guys with range and moving in and out on him, when i would get off a combo he would clinch and try toss me.
Randy plays real true to life, always trying to rough you up against the cage, allistar's clinch is death and shamrock leg locks have been guaranteed taps even early in fights..I would say you definitely have to avoid certain areas of a fight given the opponent..only thing I don't like that I have been seeing is guys that never go to the ground taking the fight there if you are getting off in the stand up, which is smart just not alway realistic..like at what point would noonz ever shoot a double or the pitbull andre?

I wouldn't say everybody punch and kick the same way. Visually it looks that way, but in reality when playing the game it is different for the following reasons:

                          1. Body movement rating
                          2. Foot speed rating
                          3. Hand speed rating
                          4. Hand reach rating
                          5. Punch combo speed
                          6. Kick reach rating
                          7. Kick combo speed

So really playing to the strengths of your fighter makes all the difference in the world when it comes to striking. Somebody with fast body movement, fast punch combo speed and a long reach will destroy somebody like Fedor, Dan Henderson, or anybody with heavy hands but slow speed.

Just like somebody with a high heart rating can survive way longer then anybody else. You can rock them, put them in dozens of submissions but their high heart rating will always keep them in the fight until the last round.

Just like I made a leg lock specialist. He can't stand and bang. But if he gets a hold to one of your legs the fight is over.

Speaking of KJ Noons, somebody made a really good one I downloaded it last night. It was AMAZING, he was bobbing and weaving, blocking, parrying, fought just like the real Noons. Had a 5 round war with him as Diaz.

Somebody made a pretty good Matt Hughes and GSP too. I made Carlos Newton, however since I can't get game face to work, he doesn't have his mini dreads.

Good stuff, I assumed Noons was in the game, that sucks that he isn't but at least the fighter share seems pretty solid.

& I guess what I'm getting at though are the different striking techniques that fighters have in real life. It's the technique, or lack of, that makes all the difference in a fight. Another example, Noons might not be as fast as a Melvin Manhoef (diff divs I know, just a rough example), but his technique is superior. So if you're playing with a guy like Noons how do you outbox the fighter with lesser technique when speed & power ratings are similar?

With everyone basically having the same style (everyone throws the same punches the same way) does your strategy change any from fighter to fighter? Obviously with a wrestler you go for TD's, strikers you try to keep it standing. But, for instance does your standup game and what you're trying or able to do change any between say KJ Noons and Nick Diaz? Both solid strikers, but with extremely different styles and capabilities standing. So does the way you approach each guy change any, or is it pretty much the same striking concepts with both.

They DON'T throw the same way. They DO throw the same punches. I don't know if that makes sense or not. A head kick from my carreer fighter was the same animation but didn't feel the same as one from Overeem. That's simultaneously a good job and a problem.

31/31 in career. Just for fun I tried to stand with Bob Sapp. Having picked a sambo style my defense wasn't very good (that's the default weakness in sambo) that started out very badly. Then I decided I'd take him down and get his arm. Sure enough his 33 or 38 or whatever in submission was of no use to him compared to my 100 rating in arm subs and ground passing. Each overall stat has it's own catagorey btw. My subs rating overall was only a ~78,100 in arm,87 in leg but only a 30 something in chokes bringing down the overall. That's the contributor to having the same animations but feeling different as it also goes for stand up. You can have a 100 in punch speed but only a 44 power. That said there was nothing stopping my 6'7 HW from using Aoki's climbing armbar.

One day rental but I played the hell out of it. I'll rent it again later to finish up. I kept wondering if you end up scoring the girl. I think it's illegal to bet on your own fighter btw.

Dunno about the reach thing. I obviously had it throughout career but it can certianly be effective. Didn't throw a whole lot, usually only if I knew there wasn't much danger. (EX Bad idea againsts Sapp, not so bad against generic guy with 50-60 rated stand up) Everything in the game has a purpose and can be effective though. Except for maybe weight, that might limit your speed but I'm not sure.

The magnetic takedowns/grapples were still pretty bad with the suction, getting stuck in place and over riding strikes/not having strikes connect on the way in. Presentation can use work. Would like to be able to pick my own walkout song and would like full walkouts, not just half way down the ramp. As mentioned they do all throw the same punches/kicks/knees so that's something to improve. Also the number of different takedowns and subs. Would also like to see the female fighters for something different. They had the fight chicks logo and Cyborg's name to select in CAF so maybe there just wasn't time. Still never found out how to do a soccer kick either, did find the face stomps.

Overall it's FAR better than UFC 2010 and a very good base but there's still a decent ammount of work to be done and improvements that could be made. It's in the 7-8 range.
