momentum and motivation meters
i would like to see madden implement some sort of momentum and motivation meter for teams. there are times when a team is winless or is playing a game like the giants patriots sb and step it up and win the game. they should make a meter that you can adjust the teams motivation and effort for the game. also there are times when teams are just clicking on all cylinders and go on a crazy win streak. they should have a momentum meter that increases the teams rating one or two points during that win streak.Tags: None -
Great idea but shouldn't be able to manually adjust it. They can brink back weekly drills and have the outcome of those turn into motivationComment

Re: momentum and motivation meters
Shouldn't every team, player and coach be 100% "motivated" to win every week. The actual ability to win should not be interpreted by "motivation". Motivation is similar to intent, every team intends to win, every player intends to play their best. I'm certain that Brett was 100% motivated when playing against the Pack, but that didn't help his ability to actually do it. Momentum on the other hand can swing during the course of a game (Giants vs Cowboys Monday night.. Eagles vs Titans) which has been done in NCAA to little effect (imo).Last edited by TreFacTor; 10-26-2010, 09:08 AM.Proud Beta tester for NFL 2K Dreamcast

Re: momentum and motivation meters
In theory, yes, but in real sport that's often not how it plays out. I'd wager every player in history who's played in a Super Bowl has felt more motivated for that game than any other they've ever played in, for example.
Anyone who's played sport at any level knows there are some days when you feel more 'up for it' than others, for whatever reason.Comment

Re: momentum and motivation meters
I go back and forth on momentum.
On one hand, I can see the point of how you can feel the momentum changing in a game.
On the other hand, momentum doesn't make (or fail to make) plays. Teams shouldn't lose because they have "less momentum" but more because they just beat themselves or got outplayed on that particular day.
Did momentum make the Browns beat the Saints, or was it bad mistakes by Brees combined with great individual efforts by the Browns players? Where was all that momentum when Dallas was up 20-7 last night at home?
Winning and losing should still come down to the players on the field and their ability to make plays or failing to do so. I don't know if winning streaks actually should make the players better (i.e. improving their ratings). Typically, teams go on winning streaks because they are good, have a run of bad teams, or, like you said, are clicking. Clicking <> playing beyond their skills, imo, and that's what improving ratings due to win streak would be like.Last edited by KBLover; 10-26-2010, 09:34 AM."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: momentum and motivation meters
I've played organized football, and that is why I made the statement. Every coach I have ever had has said that if you need any motivation other than being out on the field and giving 100% effort, then you don't belong on the field. The players and coaches abilities to effect the outcome of the game have more importance. i would hate to loose a game simply because my QB was feeling a little low on the self esteem that day. Really doesn't matter, this is madden after all...we have the swagger stat, and that doesn't effect anything so it's safe to assume that even if this is implemented it will not have any effect either. In theory, yes, but in real sport that's often not how it plays out. I'd wager every player in history who's played in a Super Bowl has felt more motivated for that game than any other they've ever played in, for example.

Re: momentum and motivation meters
i know every team wants to win but there are just times when one team NEEDS a win more than another. for example a team that is winless. now i'm not saying the meter should automatically make the team with the biggest motivation or momentum win but it can increase their performance minimally. and jaymee13 has a point maybe how hard you prepare with drills and all can help with the meter. there are alot of factors that go into how a game is won. but a team that is less motivated and not as prepared is more likely to lose. so it can have a factor in the amount of penalties, turnovers, and player errors.Last edited by abeg1713; 10-26-2010, 01:04 PM.Comment

Re: momentum and motivation meters
I think more something in line with NBA2K11's team chemistry. If a team is going well, depth charts are tight, everyone in a good state your players get some boosts. Likewise on the otherside of the coin, QB controversy, 3-4 game losing streak, young hot shot rookie pushing a veteran.
Those RPG elements would be awesome. Now Playing on PS5:

Re: momentum and motivation meters
i think the game already has this. in terms of comeback AI.
this dont always have to be a bad thing if the AI would just respect the ratings when the despiration begins.
a team should try for bigger plays down the field, O-line men should hold rushers if they get beat leading maybe to a penalty, stuff like this would helpNOW PLAYING: NBA Live, madden 11,12, battlefield v, F1 2020 and injustice 2 and COD:MW
