My guy at Gamestop said I could trade it straight across for another game/store credit so I think I am gonna take it and either get Fable 3 or save the credit. My 7 year old wants a DS for X-mas so I might do apply the credit to that.

Trading towards the DS would be a good idea.Currently Playing:

Re: EA Sports MMA Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here
I just picked this up on the 360...
I kept getting chased and stuffed on takedown attempts, and remembered seeing someone post on here about a mobility kill. I had to take that, and went 4/4 on remaining takedowns and finished him off with a kneebar.
I'm 10-0 in career, but I'm still not very good at the game. Having a blast learning my way around it though.
*edit: 11-0, time to get another belt. I fought my contender fight against a guy specializing in jiu-jitsu. It took a while, and after getting whomped I was able to pull out an Omoplata and snatch a win.Last edited by ubernoob; 10-28-2010, 01:17 PM.badComment

Re: EA Sports MMA Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here
I'm having a blast with EAMMA (360). Just started with "Paul Bell", my CAF, a heavyweight. In my second fight, I had a computer foe who was 6'8" and made him submit with 5 seconds left in the first round. That was sweet. And the fighter share is being utilized quite nicely by me.
Still haven't gotten any leg submissions yet, only the arm. Is a patch going to address that?
Hope the rumors aren't true that this is one game and done. Maybe EA can negotiate with some of the Japanese MMA organizations like Pancrase, DEEP, Shooto, Sengoku and, of course, Dream. Maybe hook up with HDNet as a sponsor of the next game. HDNet crushes Spike, IMO, for the best place for MMA coverage. Thanks, EA for a deeply enjoyable game.Comment

Re: EA Sports MMA Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here
Looks like the OS hype machine pulled me in again, lol. After some more time with the game I can definitely say that it's better than the UFC, but is it a true MMA simulation? I dunno yet. With the right patch the game can easily be a 9/10 or better, but as is I don't see how it's anything more than a slug fest. Stamina in the standup game is irrelevant, you don't have to pick your shots, and the striking mechanics could have been more realistic, they feel a bit gamey to me.Comment

Re: EA Sports MMA Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here
I played the demo last night and was really impressed. Is there a way to punch harder/softer though? It seemed my guy was not really punching that hard when I had the guy on the mat. I realize stamina plays a part but when I first got him down I had full stamina and the guy was punching him like my kid sister it seemed..Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

The ground 'n pound is actually really bad. You just have to look past it.
Luckily, I'm a submission guy. While it'd be nice to get some real G'n'P, I'm able to look past it because my goal is to submit when it goes down.Comment

Re: EA Sports MMA Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here
Why is it impossible? iRacing and NetKar Pro are great simulations. NBA 2k11 is on the right path to being a proper sim. Nothing will ever be perfect, but that doesn't mean that no sports game can be considered a sim.
The first aspect with these type of games IMO is to at least make it whereas you can produce realistic stats. Right now the striking stats are far out of line and won't get into a realistic area unless the pace at which punches are thrown is slowed down and stamina plays a bigger factor.
If they tweaked that the stats would come out to be a lot more realistic and in turn it'll push the game closer to simulation status.Comment

It can't be simulation because you can't program all the different ways things interact with each other, and you can't really simulate how each person reacts in real life. You can try, but it won't be the same. Also, the second a person steps in, they screw it all up; they do things how they see it, etc, etc.
It's just not plausible to really make a SIM game. That's why I just don't worry about it. It's just not going to happen.Comment

Re: EA Sports MMA Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here
Racing is a sport as is NBA 2k. But, either way arguing about sim is just semantics. The point I'm trying to make is that the game has room to be a lot more realistic. Those suggestions I mentioned could go a long way in doing that. It doesn't make any sense to me that I have to pick my shots and be smart on the ground (which is great, I love the ground game), but standing is completely different. I can throw 200+ effective strikes in a single round and never gas, but a few strikes on the ground can deplete your bar. The way the stamina works on the ground should be the same as it is standing. By not allowing the user to do such things (100+ strikes in a round for example) pushes the game towards being sim even with a human involved.Driving a car isn't a sport.

Currently 9and 0 in my middle weight career as a boxer with good wrestling skills. Wore down my last opponent with takedowns then finished him with combinations to the head during standup. This game is just plain fun.Comment
