    Sticklifts in NHL 11

I play games from time to time with a friend. We're pretty even but one thing bugs me. Its the sticklift. Sure its a little better than last year but I think that for some people its to easy to do it.

So my question is if there is a way to avoid or counteract the sticklift?

Sure some people gonna say that is just to avoid being in a position where you can get sticklifted. But is there some other way?

    Please help :P

Puck protect like a madman. If that don't work, I don't know what to tell you. I wish EA would make even more less effective. They are too easy.

puck movement. puck movement. puck movement.

you have to get better at passing and finding the open man and making space develop. you can't be afraid to dump the puck if you get sucked into the trap. and don't be afraid to pass the puck back to the defense if you see they've got you cornered. to free up some space you need to get the opposition moving left to right and out of position rather than letting them slowly backskate, shutting down the slot, and putting you in the trap.

If the stick lift wasn't as effective as it is, there would not be enough defense in the game.

I think the game lack ways of defending and the pokecheck/sticksweep is very badly animated and non-functional.

But it to easy to sticklift even in situations that in real life would be almost impossible to do. And if sticklift is a good way of defending it should be possible to defend against it but there isnt IMO.

What I don't think you are getting is that if you are letting him get close enough to sticklift or poke check, then you need to start moving the puck, like Redskins Pride said. Press A to hold the puck away, but really, you have to pass the puck to move the puck.

In real life, if guys are up on you, you lose the puck.

I disagree. i rarely use sticklift, and before recently almost never did. I do however poke check and hit, but mainly just stay in good position and eventually intercept a bad pass or block a shot. I seem to play quite effective defense against most people i play, and the only way i really ever give up goals is on a perfectly placed shot from the slot.

In addition to the suggestions already made I would add using the right stick to position your stick and the puck out of reach of the stick lift, and also possibly turning away a bit at the same time so that your body is shielding them as well. In a lot of situations this will allow you to keep possession and if your opponent tries a stick lift while he's not in a good position you could also get a power play out of it.

Sure enough but often that doesn't work. At least not for me. Either I get checked or poke checked. Its pretty annoying that you cant skate and deke at the same time.

I notice the poke check and stick lift is more rapid in HUT then a regular 1v1 online game.

I'm pretty sure you need to really just go into practice mode or something and go one on one and try some different stuff b/c you can definitely skate and deke at the same time.

I mean when you deke from side to side with the right stick. Not using the LB/L1 button. Its been this way since they introduced the right stick controlling the players stick. It looks to mechanic I think. though its much better than previous years.
