Re: EA Sports MMA Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here

How the heck does the scoring work in this game.

I just played two fights with my fairly mediocre, mid-level LW CAF from my career. I fought one of the lower skilled LWs and we had two good fights that I both lost via decision (neither of us really has much hand power or subs - but his wrestling was good enough to get me down a lot and beat on me. I thought it was cool that in two fights with guys who should have problems finishing one another, we went to a decision both times).

The scores of the second fight?

    30-29, 30-27, 30-26...

30-29? What the hell? How does that even happen? Has any judge in the UFC or even Strikeforce ever actually got 10-10 like that? And why are the judges so random? I know it happens in real life, but not all the time (I don't think I've had a decision where the judging was consistent). I mean - one guy thinks we tied two rounds, and another thinks I got my *** kicked so badly in one of them that I lost 10-8?

Just seems a little screwy to me.

Any recommendations for guys who love spamming body kicks in guard? It's at a point where I don't wanna take them down because they'll just wear my stamina down and sub/sweep. Very frustrating way to lose.

X & Y are normally hammerfists. A & B will throw bigger hooks. If you're in a place that allows it (not in the demo) you can throw elbows by holding the left stick towards(? maybe away?) them and using X & Y. That's from the mount of course. You're not really going to get hard punches from other positions.

Punch them back with shots to the body. Your punches to the body will decrease their stamina faster than their kicks and once they realize that, they should let up.

So is there no way to block the body when in top position on the ground? Any sort of body shots seems to drain your stamina too quickly and I can't find a way to defend against it.

I've seen the cpu block my body shot's, but I don't know how to block them either.

Damn, just lost my shot at a LHW title online. I was Hendo vs Classic Bas Rutten (what a surprise) and I had him rocked with one of those stepping overhand rights, but he recovered and then TKO'd me in the 2nd round.

Parry on that side (holding block also reduces their impact quite a bit, but makes passing easy).

game as a whole is awesome:

But either make stamina a bigger issue for the stand up or have accelerated clock. First option would be much better since it forces the player to manage his striking and pick and chopose moments to attack, but if too much to program, the next patch should include accelerated clock like Undisputed series has.

Right now, I can deliver 150 strikes a round on average with basically very little penalty on stamina. In real life, if a fighter with decent stamina does this in the 1st round, he would be forced in taking off the 2nd round.

Stamina on the ground is well done, but stand up stamina needs more emphasis.

It will make the arcade guys unhappy since the action will be much less, but when there is a huge moment like a flurry to hurt your opponent, it will be more meaningful imo.

Again, maybe this ios asking too much for the patch, so an accelerated clock would be a nice way to mitigate the too many strikes per round issue.

Things i love about this game:

                    1) you can't have a fighter " figured out".....the cpu will adapt. If he's having success body punching, he will continually go there...leg kicks? a kickboxer will turn into a muay thai fighter if he's having success tenderizing your legs. you can get KOed any time of the fight no matter how well or how bad you're doing.

                    2) Fightershare is godsend......Machida Vs Shogun felt more like the real machida vs shogun than UFC 09 or 10 ....

                    3) You can really be an effective counter-striker in the game... and this will damage your opponent quite a bit if you counter effectively.

                    4) Pure Stats driven game....know your fighter

I'm not a big fan of how Bob Sapp can shoot 40 times in a round and a half and still have full stamina. I got so tired of it playing as Tim Sylvia (I was trying to pick my shots but he kept shooting) I just blitzed him and KO'd him.

I am really enjoying MMA a lot, albeit some of the flaws that I am seeing as I go through career mode. I have had several fights go close to a decision which is awesome. Then there are several fights where I knockout the AI in the first round......so it might be time to adjust the difficulty.

I'm hoping that EA can patch the standup game because stamina doesn't seem to work like it does on the ground. So many times where I have spammed with strikes or even the CPU and very little stamina loss.

In career mode, I just wish there was more presentation to make you feel like this a PPV card or fight night. Hopefully EA gets another chance here to build on this game.

I can't recall, but in Fight Night 4 we were able to take boxers from the actual roster through career...........why not allow that here too as younger versions of themselves?

Is there any way to block a muay thai fighter from getting the muay thai clinch on your fighter? I'm playing a high rated muay thai fighter (shogun) on hard, and nearly everytime I get close, he gets his hands on my neck for the muay thai clinch?

what is the counter to his move? because 9 times out of 10, when a fighter tries to get the muay thai clinch on me, it works. i tried blocking, parrying, and even sprawling...nothing really helped. Any ideas suggestions??

                          thanks for the help.....

Same as stopping a takedown. I don't know how big an effect defense has on this.

Once they get me in it, I basically then work to get an underhook on them and push them off.

But you have to be good with hitting the defend button, or back on the stick. I think the rating makes it so you have a longer time to push them off after they attempt it. If your rating is low, I'm guessing you have to be right on with it.

Really liking the game after finally getting some time to play the final version.

But online I'm certainly going through some growing pains. I know about the body shots issue, but in general, is there an effective way to counter someone who is just going bananas with hooks to the face?

I've run into some boxers who just throw wildly, and I just don't really know what to do besides go for the takedown, which if they are decent at all, block pretty easily.

Also, Classic Bas Rutten is a whore.

                              PS, how do I sway?

Finally picked up the game. I'm having a lot of fun with it so far. Light years ahead of UFC 2010. Online is a mixed bag for me right now. I'm 18-9 online and 6 of my losses came to CAFs that just threw a hook a second. Just frustrating. Also I played against the most annoying Cung Le spammer. I lost to RNC in the 5th round. In the end he threw over 200 kicks, and still had stamina left! It was like fighting a ******** ninja. It was impossible to close distance on him because his kicks have like a 6 foot reach. All in all i'm having a lot of fun, lots of close fights that were back and forth. But filters need to be added to weed out the hook spammers.
