Is the announcing driving you crazy?

I've been playing the game for a month now and I can't decide if I should play with a created team or not. With a created team, they only do play by play announcing along with Doris Burkes skits. Of course with another real team, they talk about the players, the team, the league, etc. I love that talk, but I'm getting tired of hearing about Jerry Sloans 22 year run, or how the Jazz just weren't big enough to beat the Lakers last year, or how Paul Milsap was a good rebounder in college.

What is your opinion on the announcing (with a real team or created team), and for an association, what do you think will be the overall best long term enjoyment?

Long-run best might be to turn off the commentary, because the repetition will be maddening, and I assume that years 2-30 will not have the conversations anyway.

I play My Player for the Hornets, and the only guy with unique commentary is Okafor since Chris Paul is injured. It's always about his appetite, his stretching, or how he is one of the true scholars of the NBA. Also, I'm a leader in blocks and rebounds, but so is Okafor, and when I'm ahead of him, they always talk about him and never my character.

Re: Is the announcing driving you crazy?

Since I know the announcing gets repetitive, I turn off the announcers for most games, then turn it on for big games (so it kind of feels like a national TV game) and the playoffs.

Plus, I just like to hear the crowd, PA announcer, and music/diddies. It makes it feel more like I'm there. I do this with all sports games and it keeps the announcers fresh for much longer.

Yeahh...especially with NBA Today still not working for me (360)...I haven't played that many games so most of the information is still 'fresh' but I am sure once I have the time to it will get pretty repetitive.

I had the commentary on while I was playing My Player mode but after 22 or so games I got sick of hearing the same thing so I just turned it off. I might turn the commentary back on once every 10 games.

I don't think it'll be any better, to be honest. The Inside the NBA crew (assuming you are talking about them) are great because of their randomness, especially Charles. The best the guys can do, is release like a new commentary pack every
month or something and update the commentaries for players/teams. I wouldn't mind hearing guys of a lesser name that have the time to do this personally.

I'd like to see The Czar Mike Fratello and Tom Hammand from Madden 10 to do the commentary. it'd be pretty sweet.

Re: Is the announcing driving you crazy?

The problem I have with commentary is the preach factor. Instead of announcing the action, the focus is on selling their points of view of different subjects in sermons. Every single possession has one of those themes and it gets to the point where it bothers the hell out of me while playing. Kellogg's has to be removed as well as Kevin Harlan. Bring in Marv Albert and Matt Goukas.

Re: Is the announcing driving you crazy?

I always turn it off eventually. If you really think about...what exactly did they improve about the presentation?

The camera angles don't really looks different at all.
The announcers still say the same things game after game.
The crowd still doesn't fully react to the on court action all the time.
It STILL shows teams more than once in the mid-game standings charts.
The halftime show isn't what it was supposed to be.

I really hope that next year they focus on the little things that are the same mess ups year after year. I have decided not to hate on Jordan Mode anymore, but I still think that if they didn't spend so much time on Jordan, they could of got these little things correct...at least they got the game play down.

Re: Is the announcing driving you crazy?

Announcing needs a revamp. Canned conversations and comments about personal stories doesn't work in a video game.

It doesn't work because it gets repetitive. It doesn't work because it's meaningless after time, for example in a second season. It doesn't work because it's missing for new players or created players.

Talking about stats, keyed conversations that trigger about league leaders based on the stats, and other comments about the game and stats based on what's happening on the court or in the association would work better.

As someone pointed out hearing the crowd and arena sounds, plus the players talking, gives more an atmosphere of playing in the game.
