    Sign me up

Really trying to pimp out Faber by putting Mendes as the second to last fight.

All these writers are talking like Faber is going to dominate, although I'm hoping he does I'm a bit cautious.

Faber/Mizugaki, Mendes/Vazquez, and Benavidez/Fabianno should all be great fights. Look for most of the prelim fights to be UFC eliminators.

Did Benavidez just DDT that guy into the guillotine?

Great win by Faber but damn dude we almost saw the first death in the UFC/WEC. He held on to that choke so long and Mizagaki refused to tap. I seriously thought the damn guy was dead.

Yeah, Mizagaki turned a scary shade of white too.

It still takes almost a full 5-6mins of being unconscious while being blood choked to kill someone. That's how long it takes for braincells to start dying. It really wasn't close to being a death. Was the stoppage a little late, yeah. But Mizugaki didn't do himself any favors by rolling to his belly against the cage. Rosenthal couldn't see and had to reach around Faber to feel if he went limp. We on tv had a better view because the camera was outside of the cage. I really can't blame Rosenthal for letting it go since you have a big window with choke after they go to sleep before any real damage is done. It just doesn't look good especially when they start to seize a little when coming back to.

I wasnt blaming Rosenthal at all. There was no way for him to tell if Faber had the choke in deep enough and if Miz was out could because of the way he was positioned. For me, it was a potential worse case scenario. Rosenthal couldnt see if he was out and didnt want to call the fight early, Miz refused to tap and Faber didnt want to release it until he was sure it was over.

I'm just extra cautious about MMA because its still such a young sport. All it needs is one fighter being put in a coma or dying because the ref didnt jump in soon enough and we are back to the days of people calling it "human cockfighting" and looking to ban it.

I know man I agree with you, I said it LOOKED bad, but really wasn't. I also understand that political agenda guys can take how Mizugaki looked last night and run with it against the lack of intellect and research certain demographics show. Namely the demographics that want to ban everything, that's mildly entertaining, but ill stop there before this thread turns political. But one Google search can show it takes 5-6 mins for blood oxygen loss to the brain to start killing braincells, if there is 1 area where you can afford to let a fighter have every opportunity to continue its a choke. The turning color, and seizing when regaining consciousness, can be scary looking, but the trained medical staff can handle the seizures. And those don't always happen either. I wasn't addressing you about Rosenthal, someone else on another forum made a comment about why it took so long to stop implying Rosenthal was incompetent. I was reminded of this and just vented my tangent here. I think he handled it the best way possible. Mizugaki was still fighting back until he rolled toward the cage. Faber wasn't gonna let go till the ref stopped it. It was a choke, so there is definitely a big window for a late stop. Rosenthal reached around Faber, and when he felt Mizugaki's arms that he couldn't see go limp he stopped it. He gave the fighter every chance without jeopardizing the fighter's health or well being. Rosenthal is also the only one that seemed to understand Lesnar wasn't out and was still working to defend vs Carwin, we saw how that fight turned out. Brock gets up before the end of the round and wins via sub in round 2. Dude is the best ref at understanding when a fighter is done, and giving them enough time to improve before stopping without letting the fighters get hurt too bad.
