Re: The Career of Bryan Dodge (NCAA11)

COLLEGE GAME DAY INVADES "THE BLUE"

#25 VS #23

GAME PREVIEW

The Last time these 2 teams met was Coach Dodge's first season at WSU (2011). The Cougars were coming off a 2-10 season well the Broncos were Preseason Ranked #5 and would go on to a undefeated season beating Michigan to become National Champs behind the play of Hesiman QB Kellen Moore.

Now the sides are a little more even as WSU comes off a 10-3 season ranked #25 in the nation, well the Broncos are coming off a 12-1 season ranked #23.

Boise State will start RS SO Matt Weber at QB after a heated 3 way battle this spring. Weber (83 Overall) threw 17/33 217 yds and 3 TD's in relief. His #1 target will be RS SR Geraldo Hiwat (94 Overall)

Washington State will need to establish the ground game early with RS SR Donte Williams, in order to help slow down the Broncos high scoring offense, but the Bronco "D" typically ranks among the nations best at stopping the run.

GAME RECAP

Boise State would take the opening drive and show they can still pass the ball, as M. Weber hits TE R. Telfar on a 16 yd TD pass. After a 3 and out, BSU again would go to the air as Weber hits R. Tripplett on a 13 yd pass to put the Broncos up 14-0. Again WSU would fail to move the ball on the ground and were forced to punt.

Boise State would open the 2nd Quarter with a 28 yd FG as the Cougar "D" stepped up. (17-0) Finally with 4 minutes to play WSU gets on the scoreboard as backup WR J. Atkinson catches a 12 yd pass from C. Halliday to make it (17-7) The Cougar "D" would again step up forcing a punt but the Boise's B. Hern would pick off C. Halliday with 49 seconds to play to stop the Cougars from scoring.

Again WSU would struggle to establish a running attack to open the 2nd half, and were forced to punt. Boise State would answer back with a scoring drive capped off by Z. James 9 yd run to make it (24-7) The rushing attack for WSU would go from Bad to Worse as SR Donte Williams was forced from the game with 6 minutes still to play in the 3rd Quarter. With their star RB gone, Halliday would go to the air completing 5 passes including a 7 yd TD pass to M. Wilson to make it (24-14) Once again the Cougar "D" would force a punt getting the ball back for the Offense and once again Halliday would go to the air looking to get his team back into the game. The drive would stall though and WSU was forced to take a 29 yd FG by R. Parrish to put points on the board (24-17) Boise State would answer back with a FG of their own from 43 yds out to make it (27-17) going into the 4th.

WSU would open the 4th with Donte Williams back in the game at RB. However on the opening drive they would use 6 straight passes to get into the endzone on a 11 yd pass to AJ Brooks (27-24) After another huge stop by the Cougar "D", Halliday again would go to the air moving the ball down field and with 3 minutes to play Williams would dive in from 1 yd out to give WSU their 1st lead of the game (31-27) Boise State however would need only 2 minutes to change that as G. Hiwatt catches a 5 yd pass from M. Weber to make it (34-31) with 56 seconds to play. WSU wasn't done yet though as Halliday hits M. Wilson down the sideline, Wilson then cut across field to the endzone where he was taken down at the 1 yd line with 33 seconds to play. With Williams back on the sideline, FR Ian Jefferson would punch in the TD to give WSU the lead with 30 seconds to play. Down by 4 pts BSU had only 1 option "Get the ball into the endzone", but DE M. Owens had something else in mind as he picked up his 1st sack of the season/career to seal the win.

COACH DODGE COMMENTS

Wow what a great game. I am so proud of the team for not giving up. They played their hearts out tonight. Halliday played great, the O-Line didn't give up a sack and Wilson made some huge catches. Boise State is a very good team and they showed it tonight really keying in on stopping Williams. Overall though I really feel like this team has the ability to play and beat the best in the nation. I can't wait to play next week.
