    Best wheel for GT5?

What's the consensus on the best racing wheel for GT5? I had a wheel for GT3 back on the PS2 but man, it seemed SO touchy. I'd barely touch the wheel and my car would go off track.

If you don't use the wheel, can you change the controls so that you can hold down one of the trigger buttons to accelerate instead of the X button?

I'd like to know this as well. I've been waiting on this game and to get a wheel but, I didn't know what to get.

Well the most popular in my opinion is the G27 or G25. It is kinda pricey but both come with fully functionally gear boxes and clutch. If price is an issue you can check out the Driving Force PRO GT (Made especially for GT5). However the GT doesn't feature the gear box and clutch just a normal sequential shifter/paddle shifter and standard gas brake. I currently own the GT (Can get it for under 100 on eBay and using it for Prologue and DiRT 2) and have used the G27 if money wasn't an issue right now I'd have the G27 but I am completely happy with the GT wheel, the feedback and response is awesome and it really feels good in your hands. However in the near future I'll probably be saving up for a G27/25 set up.

Here is the logitech site comparing the two wheels, both wheels do feature 900 turn radius and feedback.

Here are also two very good in depth reviews on both the G27 and GT PRO

Wow, those are expensive. But, I'm sure if you are big into racing games, they are worth it. I don't think I could justify spending that much money for a wheel. I wouldn't mind payng 50-60 bucks for one but I'm sure the quality wouldn't be so hot.

Yeah I know, but if you aren't big on needing the gear box and clutch I say try to get a deal on the GT wheel it still makes driving games 10x better. Here is where I got mine.

That's a little better. I like the setup, too.

I had this wheel back in the day for GT3. I was thinking I need to pick it back up (I read you can use it for GT5 as well) so I can use it for GT3 and GT4, which I need to go back out and buy. Anyone know where I could find this wheel?

As stated before, if you have the moolah to spare go for a G25/27 or a Fanatec wheel. If you are like me and can't justify spending that much money on a gaming accessory, then go for the DFGT. I use it mostly with racing sims on the PC, and it is awesome. The only thing that I don't like about the DFGT is the "resistance" of the pedals, but you can fix that by inserting a spongy material under the pedal. It works like a charm.

Racing sims without a wheel are fun, but with it its just a whole new ballgame. As long as its not a $50-70 cheapo it should be fine. I paid $120 for my DFGT in Australia, and usually we have to pay double of what you guys get it for in the states.

Driving Force GT is an excellent wheel for the price. It also duals on your PC as well like the other Logitech wheels. Can't go wrong with a DFGT.

Just checked out the fanatec website And saw they had a wheel with clutch and 6 speed shifter for 159

Just keep your eyes peeled on the G27 prices. Around this time every year, I see them drop big time.

Last year newegg.com and Amazon had them for $150, and had the GT for $70.

So hopefully with the launch of this game, they will do something similar.

I was thinking about getting the GT, but if the G27 drops like it did last year, I am all over it.

I really wanted to get the G27, but like others, I couldn't justify spending $300+ on a peripheral that costs more than the system I'd be playing it on LOL. I ordered the DFGT instead. Amazon's current return policy allows to return purchases made between now and December 25 up until January 31st, so if the G27 drops super low (like below $200) before then, I'll return the DFGT for that.

It's been several years since I last had a wheel, but the one I had sucked. I got it when the first PGR come out. I loved the carbon viper for drifting, but the wheel was no good for it. Just the wheel, gas and brake. I would go crazy for one with a clutch, stick shift and all that good stuff. Also, how do you guys setup them up to be comfortable for playing? Using a regular desk makes it hard. I thought there were gaming chair that a wheel setup could setup on?

I am under the impression that the G27 kind of has a setup to mount onto for the wheel and gear box. Perhaps I am mistaken.

Most of the setups I've seen online involving the G25/27 used the Playseat chairs. But they retail for $300+ (although the general consensus seems to be that they're worth the investment if you're really looking for that immersion factor)
