How on earth can a game that has been in development for so long turn out to be so decidedely average. GT5 is not a bad game. It's just so dull & uninspiring.

SONY scored an own goal with the decision to have standard & premium cars. There is too much of a visual difference between the 2, thus making driving with a standard car seem somewhat dissapointing.
Forza 3 is a much better all round game. At least the standard of visuals is consistent across the board. Including interior shots & the ability to use the right analog stick to move the camera.

The wait for GT5 has been the gaming equivalent of the long wait for Guns 'n' Roses last album. It wasn't bad, it just didn't justify the wait.

I'm afraid GT5 will be going on my trade in pile. I'll be sticking with Forza 3 & looking forward to the new game scheduled for next year.

I would play almost any Codemasters racer over GT5, but for EA to call out PD is a bit of a reach, IMO. Before Shift, the NFS series was just one average racer after another. They sort of re-discovered the magic with Shift and I'm looking forward to Shift 2. I'm a car nut so there's aspects of GT5 that I really appreciate but both EA and Codemasters are bang on...the series is definitely showing its age. We've played the same game 5 times now, with prettier graphics being the only significant upgrade.

Forza 3 trumps all, at least for me. Maybe the driving isn't AS sim as the GT series, but everything around it is much better. GT5 is very formulaic.

Why do I get this mental image of Kevin Butler just falling out of his executive chair with laughter??? EA should just shut up and concentrate on keeping their company in tact. They are constantly losing ground on what was their most coveted titles (NBA and Madden). Not to mention Nascar backed out and sold the license to Codemaster. Hey EA, here's some free advise - take care of your own house. That's a full time job.

GT5 isn't sterile by default, it's sterile by design. I don't understand why people are so decidedly into bashing it for this when every single preview and game before it pointed to this type of racing.

Video games should never be boring. I mean, thats why we all play these games, to have fun. When I watch real life racing, it never seems boring to me, lots of speed and action. In other words, PD's idea of sim is all wrong.

EA is struggling and Codemasters isn't perfect. It is early on and the debate will rage on and on. I wish SimBin could make a racing game for the PS3.

I love GT5. I love its encyclopedia and wealth of information. I love being able to spend hours photographing my cars and tracks. I love being able to feel the uniqueness of each car and push them to their limits of performance and traction with a racing wheel.

It is an car enthusiast's game. It does not have to be flashy to me. It has it's beauty that speaks for itself.

Everyone knows what GT series is, so why everyone calling the game bland and boring. I got bored with GT series during PS2 but from your post remind me what so great about the series.

SimBin didn't make Shift. They have made several great racing games for the PC as well as Race Pro for the 360. I'm really hoping they make a Race Pro 2.

The beauty and fun of Gran Turismo is in Enigma's post and more so for me in the performance on the track. Gran Turismo is the most accurate "driving" sim on a console, period. Not the most accurate crashing sim. I have seen tons of people bash the game because of poor crash physics and even one comment that stated "if I drive into the braking car in front of me going 120 it should create a huge crash and a game cant call itself a driving sim if it doesnt."

Bottom line is if you make a habit of hitting a breaking car in front of you going 120 then GT is not the game for you. Thats why games like Burnout and Hot Pursuit have a market and following.

GT's brilliance on the track is found in its attention to the physics of the car and the demand of perfecting driving lines.

I can tell you as someone fortuante enough to have a G27 it is more than "fun" when you pull off a perfect heel toe shift in a race to execute a pass coming out of a corner. Sorry but no other game on a console comes close to replicating the benefits of proper driving and footwork as GT. I could care less about crash physics because after the first month or so I generally race more solo trying to best lap times anyway. After the initial group of players leave I might go online once the bumper cars phases its way out of online.

Different people have fun with different games. As someone really into racing I find most of the Need for Speed series extremely boring, including the highly reviewed Hot Pursuit. After the first 30 minutes of driving fast to initiate a similar crash animation over and over the game really didnt have much to offer.

Well said. I feel the exact same way 100%.

The game comes as close as it gets to myself personally, to getting behind the wheel of some cars I would never be able to in real life, let alone see in person. And lets me feel as close as it gets to how the car will handle and respond to me driving it.

That is not replicated in any other game to such detail on any other console. And while this may not be for everyone, it is for car enthusiasts, and that has been known since it's days on the PS2.

EA can blast other people's franchises when they actually release a playable product. "Boring" and "sterile" from the same company that dumps both of it's basketball games and has not produced a nascar game for years...as well as the most bland version of Madden yet. GT5 is an outstanding game; the latest edition of the franchise that defined driving sims. I may never spend another dime on EA.
