Nice but I already see two wrongs, one of my receivers are a 97 speed but when I recruited him he was a 4.32 40? and my DE was a 4.57 unless im way off but his speed is 73 and that has him 4.7

        season 10 2019 UL Monroe

#5 UL MONROE VS #21 GEORGIA TECH YELLOW JACKETS

        MONROE, LA---
The season is upon us and tonight the defending National Champ open up against a tough opponent in Georgia Tech.
The hype all summer long was how was ULM gonna replace NCAA legend Leonard Sims, after signing the #1 signal caller out of high school coach Eddie Polly decided to red shirt him and go with Senior Jerry Jordan. With his whole defense coming back and adding true freshmen Eric Cleveland to his defensive line Polly likes his chances.
"Im excited to get things started, we had a few positions of question marks but I feel we filled them fine, we had a great spring training and a fantastic fall camp and now its time to go hit someone else in the mouth" Said ULM coach Polly.

Although they have one of the toughest places to play the Warhawks know this isnt any easy game. OLB #44 Keith West and this tough defense has to contend with Pre Season Heisman hopeful running back Steve Sutherland(92 BT, 95 SP)and this GT rushing attack.
Sutherland rushed for 1,367 yards and 14 touchdowns last season.
"He's a great back and we definitely need to wrap up this week, he along with the rest of GT will give us a test and I know we'll be ready." Said an amped up Keith West earlier this week.
Georgia Tech is also returning last years quarterback Thomas Jones, Jones was very effiecient for the Jackets throwing for more than 2,000 yards while scoring 19 touchdowns to only 5 interceptions.
"His ability to lure you with his running ability will catch you off gaurd if your not disciplined and play your area. Coach Polly has stressed this all week in practice and our unit will be ready." A confident Tyler Little stated. Little with be the 2nd youngest starter on this defense this weekend as the sophomore starts at right corner.

Both Corso and Herbie agree the Warhawks win this one but look out for the Sutherland and the Jackets in Monroe Next!!!!

#5 Virginia Tech Hokies VS. #8 Notre Dame Irish

          [10-1 (8-0)] ________________________________[8-2 (0-0)]

          At Historic Notre Dame Stadium
          Presented by: ESPN
          Tonight 8 pm E/T; 7pm C/T

          (AP) Preview

Tonight marks the beginning of the annual meeting between 2 programs on the opposite end of the spectrum: Virginia Tech Hokies who have emerged from the shadows in the last 5-7 years and who have become national contenders, and then the Notre Dame Fighting Irish - a program that is the benchmark of all other college programs around the country. When you think of football, you automatically think of Notre Dame. The storied history behind this program and it's legacy will far outlive the game of football in and of itself. Two completely different programs, but one common bond: Frank Beamer.

Earlier this year, Frank Beamer accepted the offer to become the head coach of the Fighting Irish after Coach Kelly could only accumulate 3-.500 seasons. With the prestige this program carries, the search for the new coach began last fall when their bowl hopes were all but crushed. This time around, they knew they had to go with a coach who has achieved a level of success that few have reached. Frank Beamer was the man for the job, after spending 3 decades in Blacksburg, VA. He has turned the school into a 6-star prestigious program that has earned its keep in the recruiting deparment and has delivered many key victories on the big stage. The only thing that Beamer did not achieve was a National Championship - a goal that can become reality as he takes over the reigns of Notre Dame.

Left behind to become the new coach for the Hokies, Bud Foster has followed right in Beamer's footsteps by traveling a path of success. After losing their marquee matchup at the beginning of the season by 1 point to USC, the Hokies have rattled off 10 straight victories, and are now the #5 team in the country, and have earned a spot in the ACC Championship Game against Florida State. Bud Foster grew up under the wing of Frank Beamer as defensive coordinator, and has instilled many of the morals and principles that Beamer brought to Blacksburg. Both men have tremendous amounts of respect for one another, which should make this annual rivalry all-the-more-sweeter. Foster is out to prove that he can carry the Hokies to the top, while Beamer is trying to prove that he is one of the most successful coaches in college football history, and that he can continue on that path with a school that all coaches dream to be a part of as a child. To add fuel to the fire, Beamer led his Fighting Irish to a big 34-31 victory over USC in what was inadvertently viewed as a one-up for Beamer over Foster. This was a large stepping stone for Beamer, though, because the first 2 games of the season they struggled with 2 consecutive losses out of the gates. On the other hand, Foster traveled to the Coliseum to take on USC at the beginning of the season, and came up just 1 point shy - a game that marked only the beginning of the passing struggles Virginia Tech would endure with Junior Trey Gresh at the helm. Many critics believe that had Foster went with Reid from the beginning, that Virginia Tech would be undefeated and would be playing in the BCS Championship Game at season's end. Surely Foster will view Beamer's victory over USC as a one-up performance, and will be out for the victory tonight. Foster acknowledges that the lack of a passing attack was the reason for their early season struggles.

It wasn't until the ACC game against Georgia Tech that Foster benched Gresh, and put in true freshman Brandon Reid out of Newport News, VA (6'6" 215lbs.). Since Reid took over in the 2nd half of that game, he has passed for 1,726 yards 18 touchdowns 3 interceptions, and has added 499 yards rushing and 10 rushing touchdowns. It is not coincidental that the Hokies have averaged 42.3 points per game, and have won 10 consecutive games leading into tonight's contest. One thing is for sure: Reid's abilities will surely be on display tonight as this rivalry kicks off!

Beginning this year (2013), without an end in site, the Hokies and the Fighting Irish will meet annually at the end of each season in what will be called: "The Battle for the Lunch Pail." The winner of each contest will take possession of the blue-collar lunch pail, a tradition that Bud Foster started in his first season with Virginia Tech in 1995. This lunch pail will be displayed in the trophy case of the victor of this game for one year, in which it will be brought to the site of each game, and will be put up for grabs again. Each year, the teams will swap a home-and-home series, starting this year at historic Notre Dame Stadium. This will give a little more meaning to this annual game, and give each team a reason to win.

This lunch pail has a lot of history behind it, as it usually contains the team's mission statement, along with any other sorts of motivation for the team. Typically, the defensive MVP would be awared the lunch pail, and would not relinquish it until another player on defense consistently out-done the current possessor. Some previous lunch-pail possessors include Daryl Tapp, Orion Martin, Xavier Adibi, John Graves, Jason Worilds, among many other big-name stars that have graced the Virginia Tech program. Starting this year, though, it won't be the defensive MVP that takes possession of the lunch pail. Instead, the winner of the game will stake claim to the pale, and return it to their respective school's trophy case.

Tonight's game will mark the beginning of something great, something that makes football so unique in comparison to other sports and other cultures - a traditional rivalry. This game is sure to have postseason implications for years to come, and this first year is no difference. As it stands In current bowl projections, both of these teams are projected to play one another in the Discover Orange Bowl in Miami, FL. This game is essentially for that spot in the Orange Bowl (barring some type of miracle at the top of the rankings, and a gaffe-less performance against FSU in the ACC Title Game) and adds more fuel to the fire. Expect a respectful performance from both squads, but also expect an intense, high powered football game. This could be a test of offenses and wits between the two coaches. They both know each other very well, and will have a counter for each move that is made. Foster will be bringing a true freshman in Reid to a rowdy environment, while Beamer will be unleashing 3 high powered tail backs, and senior quarterback Cotton. This will be the true test to see which program has progressed the most, and should pave the way for an astounding post-season.

Who will win this rivalry? Can Foster keep the coveted Lunch Pail in Blacksburg for another year, or will Beamer get "hungry" and snatch the lunch pail from this Hokie squad? Will tempers be flaring between the two teams with so much on the line in terms of the BCS? Tune in tonight to the Battle for the Lunch Pail on ESPN and become a part of history!

It's do or die time, there is still a chance you can make the championship game if you win these next 2 games. Even if you don't make the national championship you will still get a BCS bowl and put yourself in a good position to be ranked top 5 next year. If your not 6 stars already you should get that too.

I have decided to get back into my Cal dynasty, and I am currently in my 2nd year bringing the up-tempo spread offense to Cal. The first year was tough, as I didn't really have the personnel to run the spread. QB Kevin Riley was a slow pocket passer, although he did do well throwing the ball for me. HB Shane Vereen struggled in his first year in the spread despite the talent he has, and only averaged 75 rushing yards per game despite his 94 overall. My defense was abused in the Pac 10, and we finished 6-7 with a loss to Colorado in a bowl game.

However in year 2, the Golden Bears have been rolling. Riley graduated, and I recruited a 3 star QB Johnathan Wilson, who's only rated 68. The rest of my QBs were pocket passers, but I wanted a dual threat QB. So Wilson got the start, even though my other QB Sweeney is rated 84. Wilson has 80 speed, wearing a nice visor, and gloves. His accuracy isn't very good, but his speed ratings are above average for a QB. Vereen has done a lot better with Wilson, and my team is absolutely deep. At most positions I have 2 players who could no doubt start on most teams in the country. My WR core is fantastic with the speedy Marvin Jones, and a nice big TE Anthony Miller who is almost impossible for line backers to cover. Also my defense has had its ups and downs. It gets pressure unlike last year, after the switch to the 3-4, and with my CB Anthony who always seems to make a turnover, while shutting down top wideouts, we are doing much better than last year. Although my defense has still been abused throughout the year.

But the year started with a 52-14 beat down on San Jose State. I scheduled a cup cake to get my offense down with Wilson and it went great. Then I had Colorado at home, and got a close win for some revenge. We won on a last second field goal 31-28, and Wilson showed he can play against quality teams. Then I upset #13 Nebraska at Lincoln. We played fantastic and contained Taylor Martinez and their offense. We won 28-24, and then moved to Pac-10 play. Next was unranked Oregon, with LaMichael James, who we took down 48-24, in a fast-pace shootout. After them was #23 Arizona, in which our defense did well against the Air Raid. We won 37-22, and their defense couldn't keep our offense off the field.

Then a trip to 2-4 USC, which was a tough, tough game. We fell behind 17-0, but Vereen had a picnic against the Trojan defense. And despite Wilson's two ints, the offense got rolling. Vereen ran for 298 yards and 2 TDs. Goal line back Covaughn Deboskie ran 2 TDs in at the goal line. My 3rd down back Sofele had a great punt return for a TD, then Wilson ran in 2 scores. We won 58-47, in a crazy game.

Next was my toughest game maybe yet, as 5-1 UCLA came to Berkeley. Early in the game, a Wilson pass was deflected and a UCLA linebacker brought it to the house, but I blocked the XP. I answered with a long drive of my own for a Deboskie TD, and got a quick three and out on D. However, then Vereen fumbled, and it was also brought back for a score. Still, I came back and Wilson found Marvin Jones for a long TD. I was up 14-13, and rallied for a 27-13 lead, after dominating the game. Finally the UCLA offense got a nice drive and scored, but the kicker then missed an XP again. Up 27-19, I held UCLA off as Vereen kept picking up first downs.

Now #2, I am in a middle of a battle with 1-5 Washington State, and am up 14-0 in the first half.

While it seems that my sliders may be easy, as I am already #2 in the nation, they really are not. I have only played 2 teams over .500 in Arizona as UCLA, as Nebraska, Colorado, USC, and Oregon have been beaten up all year. I only have 1 game against a team over .500 for the rest of the year, when I battle my rival Stanford. Auburn, me, Miami, and Texas A&M are all undefeated, so I may need one of them to lose for me to get to the championship. Still, I've really got this system rolling at Cal, and with Wilson and Vereen, we are shredding defenses.
So I take the trip to Corvallis, in what should be an easy win. Oregon State wore their orange jerseys, and came ready to play. Our offense started off well and we drove to the 10 yard line, when the Beavers threatened with an all out blitz. Wilson quickly threw a slant route in 1 on 1 coverage, but the Oregon State corner beat the wide out on the route, and picked it off. The next play Oregon State completed an 88 yard TD pass off of a slant route, and poor tackling. 7-0 Oregon State

We drive to around the 50 but Wilson fumbles the ball and the Beavers recover. We still stop them, and force a punt. Then on the next drive, Vereen punches home a 10 yard run on the Read Option. 7-7 tied.

We had an interception, but Wilson then fumbled the ball again on an option. The game went back and forth, and it went tied into halftime at 14, due to both teams scoring another TD.

In the second half, the Beavers scored first, and they really stalled our spread offense. For the third quarter, nothing was working, and Jacquizz Rodgers, 97 overall now as a senior, pounded me every play and ran the clock. We kept forcing 4th downs though, but once again our offense did nothing. Finally, our punter made a big play and we downed the ball at the 1. Oregon State tried to run a screen pass, but my freshman RE Gabe King, who leads the team in sacks, creamed the QB before he could throw it, and he let go off the ball. It was a live fumble, and my freshman line backer Wilkerson recovered it in the endzone to tie it up at 21.

Rodgers then lead the team on a long drive that took up 5 minutes, and capped it off with a 3 yard TD run with a 1:30 left. With 3 timeouts, down by 7, Wilson lead a solid drive. He completed passes left and right, and on 4th and 10 at midfield, made a play with his feet to pick up the first down. Finally we got to the 15 yard line, but the Beavers made a stand, and held us to 4th and 2. It was the play of the game, and the year, so I called for my two slot receivers to run small routes over the middle. Oregon State got pressure, and Wilson was forced to leave the pocket. Right before being wrecked by a DE, Wilson lofted a short pass which was knocked down. The Beavers had upset the Golden Bears, destroying their BCS title hopes. Oregon State 28, Cal 21

Now ranked #10 we played Stanford at home. Still angry about the loss, we found ourselves in a 31-10 hole. However, Vereen ran crazy in the second half, and Wilson played his best half of the year. We eventually tied it up, and kicked a game winning field goal with a couple seconds left. However, the play before Vereen was knocked out for the rest of the season, and his career at Cal. Now Cal begins its future without him. Cal 34, Stanford 31

We got invited to the Rose Bowl where we met Ohio State. HB Boom Herrion was the first HB to ever get 100 yards on us all season, and he killed us. Down 34-23, our defense got a big safety, sacking the Ohio State QB, and then drove for a TD and a big two point conversion to tie it up. However, it looked like Ohio State was driving for another TD, when my CB Anthony, who absolutely shut down Ohio State's top wideout Posey, made a big interception in 1 on 1 coverage. We then drove down the field and finished the game with a game winning field goal. Cal 37, Ohio State 34

We finished the season ranked #5, as Pac-10 and Rose Bowl champs, finishing much better than our 6-7 season last year. Now Vereen is gone, but we had two defensive freshmen make all Pac-10, a returning DT Payne who made 1st team All-NCAA, and both our returning corners made the all-Pac 10. A new batch of freshmen come in, and we'll need QB Johnathan Wilson to keep progressing and to lead the #7 team in the nation. We start the season with a home game against Houston, then at #4 Florida, and then home at Illinois. After that, we play our weak Pac 10 schedule. I am looking forward to a possible championship season.
I will always, always be a Jets fan. But trust me it hurts.

                Re: NCAA11 Off-Line Dynasty Progress

                TRAMPLED IN THE HORSESHOE

The Golden Hurricane were embarrassed in one of the toughest places to perform in College Football. Coming into the game the Buckeyes were better then the Golden Hurricane everywhere except Points Per Game, Tulsa (19th) Ohio State (23rd), and Pass Offence, Tulsa (7th) Ohio State (24th). Tulsa have the 119th ranked Defence, giving up 900 yards in 2 games, which is a huge flaw in a team which is quite solid on the Offensive side of the ball.

The newly crowned #1 Bucks are led by explosive QB Terrelle Pryor who has recently fallen from the Heisman race and is looking for a stats boost against the Conference-USA leaders.

                1st Quarter.
Ohio remind QB GJ Kinne that this isn't his house by intercepting just his 2nd pass of the game and return it to the 6 yard line and is soon punched in by Brandon Saine. The pressure shows as Kinne misses an easy throw which would have picked up a 1st down. OSU make light work of the Tulsa secondary finishing up with a 14 yard pass to Turian Washington to make it 14-0. Kinne's day seems to just get worse as he throws another interception, this time returned for a TD. 21-0.

"At that point he had his head in his hands and said he was too emotional to continue, but I had to talk to him and tell him to relax and that he was the leader of this team" said Coach McRory on his talk to his QB after the 2nd interception in the 1st. The talk seemed to work as kinne began to hit his receivers and even found his favourite target Trae Johnson running a flag route on 3rd & 20 for the 1st down, but eventually punt after a 3 & out. Tulsa's defence show some promise as they force Saine to fumble only for it to be recovered by Justin Boren. Tulsa's D is bringing OSU to 3rd downs the entirety of their drive only for OSU to convert and eventually score on a TD pass to DeVeir Posey. 28-0 Ohio State. Tulsa's Offence seems to feed off their Defences applaudible effort as they engineer a no-huddle drive for RB J. Williams to score on a HB Draw from 7 yards out. 28-7 at the end of the 1st.

                2nd Quarter.
Pryor came out of the gates fast, real fast, burning the Tulsa Defence on a 40 yard run down to the 24 yard line, eventually hooking up with Posey for his 2nd TD of the game. GJ Kinne however, trys to take a slower approach to the game, and on 3rd down while trying to make a play he is hit as he throws and gives up another INT.

Kinne trys to make the play and throws an INT
                <a href="http://s935.photobucket.com/albums/ad198/R7394/?action=view&amp;current=TulsaVsOSUpic1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i935.photobucket.com/albums/ad198/R7394/TulsaVsOSUpic1.jpg" border="0" alt="TulsaVsOSUpic1"></a>

Pryor picks up the blitz and fires a bullet to Posey for a 33 yard TD. Kinne sticks with the pressure and takes one for the team in hitting Wide-out Ricky Johnson over the middle.

Kinne stays with the pressure and fires a bullet to R. Johnson
                <a href="http://s935.photobucket.com/albums/ad198/R7394/?action=view&amp;current=TulsaVsOSUpic2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i935.photobucket.com/albums/ad198/R7394/TulsaVsOSUpic2.jpg" border="0" alt="TulsaVsOSUpic2"></a>

The hit obviously effects Kinne as his throws are off and he's not as quick in his release or scramble, and Tulsa are forced to punt at Midfield. DT Jack Jewell shows tremendous effort as he weaves his way through 3 Ohio lineman to get to Pryor.

                DT Jewell on the sack
                <a href="http://s935.photobucket.com/albums/ad198/R7394/?action=view&amp;current=TulsaVsOSUpic3.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i935.photobucket.com/albums/ad198/R7394/TulsaVsOSUpic3.jpg" border="0" alt="TulsaVsOSUpic3"></a>

"Coach always says in us to practice that we go after the QB until the play is over, and, luckily enough for me Pryor held onto the ball a bit too long" - DT Jack Jewell

That sack forced the first OSU punt of the day, but once again the pressur on Kinne is too much as he is hit again as he throws and Ohio comes up with another INT. Pryor once again shows why he is up for consideration for the Heisman as he easily drives the Bucks down the field for another score. 49-7. Kinne tries his hardest to get a scoring drive in before the half, finding Williams for 21, AJ Whitmore for 22 and Trae Johnson on 3rd down to get it to first and goal. With 3 seconds left Kinne tries to run it in but is tackled out of bounds, just short of a TD. 49-7 at the half.

"I think if he had got that touchdown he would have had more confidence in the second half but this game can be cruel to all of us sometimes" commented McRory on his QB's unsuccessful scramble at the end of the half.

                3rd Quarter.
Tulsa start the 3rd quarter off strong, forcing an OSU punt, but Kinne is knocked out for a quarter with a bruised upper arm. Ohio Stadium isn't the best place to come in as a backup, and Shavodrick Beaver found that out early and often as his Offensive Line collapsed under a relentless Ohio pass rush. Pryor once again answers back with a 55 yard TD to Stoneburner. 56-7. Beaver eventually finds his rhythm and hits AJ Whitlock down the sideline for 56 yards which sets him up to run one in from 14 yards out. 56-14.

Beaver runs in a TD on a PA fake
                <a href="http://s935.photobucket.com/albums/ad198/R7394/?action=view&amp;current=TulsaVsOSUpic4.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i935.photobucket.com/albums/ad198/R7394/TulsaVsOSUpic4.jpg" border="0" alt="TulsaVsOSUpic4"></a>

Tulsa start to gain some momentum, forcing a 3 & out and then a brilliant drive in which Beaver scrambles for 36 yards only to stall in the redzone and kick a 32 yard Field Goal. 56-17.

                4th Quarter.
Tulsa's Defence pick up where they left off, Tanner antle getting the sack on Pryor and good coverage forces another punt. "I believe that with some recruiting we can have a great Defence her at Tulsa, at the moment we are a bit shaky but with practice we can become a brilliant team" - Coach McRory on his young Defence.

Beaver hits his FB Charles who trucks his way down to the 5 yard line, after some failed runs C. Opeseyitan converts on 4th and goal for the TD. 56-24. The next OSU possession was a kick in the teeth to the upbeat Defence as they are burned for a 78 yard run by Saine. 63-24. With Kinne back in the game Tulsa drive for one last hoorah. Kinne hits Freeman on the sideline who makes a fantastic catch, keeping a foot inbound.

It took just one play for ULM linebacker Keith West to help erase all doubt heading into this season surrounding the Warhawks. On the first play from scrimmage Saturday, West came from the backside and jumped on Georgia Tech quarterback Thomas Jones causing him to fumble.
So much for any doubts about the No. 5 Warhawks ability to stop the great rushing attack the Yellow Jackets possessed. West along with Middle Linebacker #59 Isaiah Anderson wreaked havoc all afternoon holding this rushing attack to 20 yards on 37 attempts. They both recorded 11 tackles a piece. West recorded a interception and Anderson record two sacks. As a team the Warhawks recorded four sacks with Freshmen DE Eric Cleveland recording his first career sack. GTECH running back S. Sutherland, the heisman hopeful didnt have a chance to receive many pitches and when he did the Warhawks bottle him up holding him to just 7 yards on 8 carries.

"That's exactly what we needed to happen for us," said coach Eddie Polly. "We were asking 'How are we going to respond?' I'd say they responded well."

That wasnt the case for the Warhawks offense however. In fact the Warhawks couldnt get on the board until late in the 2nd quarter. Quarterback Jerry Jordan Started the game 2 for 9 that included a interception. Along with a scattering of boo's as the Warhawks headed to the bench on three consecutive possessions before a D. Hall field goal late in the half.
Minutes later, Jordan started sealing the deal, firing the first of his four touchdowns in guiding the Warhawks to a 17 point 2nd quarter Heading into the half up 17-0
As he has been much of fall camp, Jordan was efficient and mistake-free from the middle of the 2nd quarter on, going 11-19 for 287 yards and leading an offense that rolled up 453 total yards. His four TD passes excited the crowd of 33,000 at Malone Stadium including a 79 yard touchdown pass to freshmen receiver Ernest Waters who got behind the coverage and sprinted to the end zone on the first play of the third quarter.
JORDAN SEE'S FRESHMEN ERNEST WATERS STREAKING BEHIND THE DEFENSE

"It was a tough first half, I just had to find my groove." Said Jordan who led the Warhawks to four straight scoring drives in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. " It wasnt a Leonard Sims performance but it felt good to finally get out there and play"

Perhaps the nail in the coffin was drilled in hard when linebacker and player of the game OLB #44 K. West picked off a T. Jones pass and returned it 27 yards putting the Warhawks up 31-0. Soon After another GT punt Jordan who seemingly was in a groove now hit leading receiver M. Royal for his 2nd touchdown of the day going up 38-0.
                  K. WEST INTERCEPT T. JONES AND GOES TO THE HOUSE

The Warhawks went up 45-0 before GT used a 19 play drive to score there only touchdown with 9 seconds left in the game. Overall the Yellow Jackets had 157 total yards and were held to only 5-15 on third downs with two turnovers.

"I wouldnt say it was a statement game but I will say this game gives us alot of momentum heading to Penn State next week" Coach Polly stated in the post game press conference. " We still have alot of work to do, we did some good things and made a few mistakes that we cant have when we play a great Penn State team."

HOKIES AND THE IRISH FACED OFF IN A MATCH-UP OF BLUE COLLAR TEAMS FOR THE BATTLE OF THE LUNCH PAIL

(AP) South Bend, IN. - The #5 Virginia Tech Hokies led by their new head coach Bud Foster traveled to South Bend tonight to take on the #8 Notre Dame Fighting Irish led by former Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer in the inaugural series for "Battle of the Lunch Pail."

                      Re-Cap
Notre Dame began the game by electing to receive the opening kick-off, as Hokies defer possession to the second half. Senior Quarterback Cotton lead his team out onto the field for Senior Day in hopes of spoiling the Hokies' season, and landing a BCS berth in the Discover Orange Bowl. Simply "leading" his team was the understatement of the day, as Cotton dominated on the field throughout tonight's game, further displaying how successful his college career has been.

On their opening possession, the Irish quickly show to Bud Foster an offense that he was not prepared for - assuming that Beamer would be implementing the playbook he used at Virginia Tech that has provided so many years of highly rated offense. However, on the first play, Telvion Clark breaks through the line, and puts the hammer on Notre Dame's senior tail back, who coughs up the ball but is recovered by Irish offensive lineman. This clearly set the mood for this game, as it was an extremely physical and hard fought game. Notre Dame go to three and out, and are forced to punt the ball to the Hokies.

Reid comes out on his opening possession, and proves once again that he is one of the top freshman in the nation, as he connects with DJ Coles to put them into the Irish red-zone. However, the Irish step up strong, and stop the Hokies. Sophomore stand-out kicker Brandon Jackson, who has been tried and true all year, lines up for the 37 yard field goal. The weather was cold and blistery, and surely had an effect on tonight's game as Jackson's kick sails wide left, and is no good as the score remains knotted up at 0-0. Notre Dame take over, work down the field behind the arm of Cotton and the feet of their senior tail back Townes, and attempt a field goal of their own from 42 yards out, but it sails wide right, NO GOOD! 0 - 0 still.

Hokies resume possession, but are unable to get anything going, and Irish get the ball back. On a huge first down pass, Cotton connects with his favorite receiver who streaks down the sideline before being stopped inside the Hokies 20. They are forced to three and out from here, and attempt another field goal that sails wide right again as the score remains 0 - 0.

Irish's kicker may have been struggling, but their defense proved to be a little too much to handle for the Hokies in the first half. They force Reid's offense to a three and out again. Cotton takes over at the 34 yard line, and wastes no time in working his offense down the field and into field goal range yet again as the 1st quarter expires, and we have a scoreless game.

2nd quarter begins with three great defensive plays by the Hokies' defense, and Beamer sends out his kicker for his third attempt - maybe he will get the "luck of the Irish," or third time's a charm? #14 paces forward, puts the ball up, and it sails just wide left as Hokies' sideline errupts with excitement that they take over with it still a scoreless game.

Reid finally gets going as he works down inside Notre Dame territory, but is stopped short at the 32 yard line after a violent sack on Reid. Foster sends Jackson on the field, but he pulls through this time as he puts up the 49 yard field goal, and they take the lead VT 3, ND 0.

Foster's defense finally start playing to their true potential, and find an answer for the Cotton-Townes show. As the end of the 2nd abruptly approaches, Reid gets his offense into scoring position and capitalizes after Matthews punches it in from a few yards out - VT 10, ND 0.

                      Half-Time

Foster was clearly pleased with the effort of his defense so far, but stressed how Notre Dame has moved the ball with ease, and the offense has to get off the ground.

Beamer wasn't as up-beat as Foster, as the struggles with his kicker continues as he missed his 7th, 8th, and 9th field goals of the season. He stressed the importance of finishing drives, and stopping Reid.

To start the third quarter, Reid comes out in what looks to be a run formation, but they try a bit of trickery as he calls the play-action to catch the Irish off guard -

Beamer knew what to expect in the 2nd half from Foster, further proving that this game was a match of wits - a chess match if you will. Reid's pass is intercepted and downed near the goal line, putting a lot of pressure on Foster's defense. On 1st, 2nd, and 3rd down, Townes is walled off from the endzone, and in a gutsy move not true to Beamer's history, he goes for it on 4th and 2 from the 2 yard line. Cotton sees a miss-match, audibles the call, and Townes gets the counter away from the over-aggressive defensive line and dives into the endzone for the touchdown - VT 10, ND 7.

Reid showed his frustration on the sideline, but Foster calms his youngster down, and he comes out to take back over this game. They work the clock with some nice runs, and nice underneath pass plays as ND was committed to stopping the "big play." After working down into Irish territory, Reid drops back and connects with his freshman Hendrix on a drag route in stride, and Hendrix does the rest:

29 yard touchdown by Hendrix - VT 17, ND 7.

Cotton takes to the field on first down, as he tries to force a pass that goes errant and flies just over his tight end's head who was running a curl route, and FS Ryan Caldwell is there waiting as he makes an athletic play to snatch the ball before it hits the ground for the interception, and then returns it to the 9 yard line of ND.

2 plays later, Matthews finds paydirt for the 2nd time as he rumbles in for the touchdown - VT 24, ND 7.

It seemed at this point that Notre Dame was completely out of the game, and would be the case if this were still Coach Kelly era. But as we all may know by now - you can never count out Frank Beamer.

Beamer gives his players a gut-check speech on the sidelines, and they seem to respond as Cotton takes his troops right down the field on this Hokie defense. On 3rd down at the 19, Cotton drops back and connects with his favorite target Lambert:

Touchdown Notre Dame, as they decrease the deficit to 10 on a very important drive - VT 24, ND 14.

Reid takes to the field, but forgets to bring his left arm, as three errant passes forces a quick three and out as Cotton and the Irish look to take over and draw closer on the score board. Cotton does not disappoint, and on 3rd down, Cotton catches the Hokie defense in cover 3 as welch slips in behind the safeties on a streak:

Touchdown for the Irish, and we now had a ball game - VT 24, ND 21.

On the ensuing possession, the Hokies are able to come up with a touchdown by way of the feet of Grayson from a few yards out as the 3rd quarter ends - VT 31, ND 21

As 4th quarter begins, so does a turn around for the Hokies after giving up some big touchdowns in the 3rd. Notre Dame gets the ball, but an abrupt three and out forces them to punt the ball to the Hokies. Wasting no time, Reid works down the field, gets into position to score but is sacked on 2nd down to force a 3rd and long. Reid drops back on 3rd down looking for a quick slant, everything is bottled up, he rolls out of the pocket where Notre Dame's right end breaks off his block and is in close pursuit. Reid runs around the outside, is approaching the line of scrimmage, has a receiver open, does a quick pump fake, stalls the corners, and he jets forward on the edge of the sideline, and dives towards the end zone:

Knees are parallel to the ground, ball across the plane - touchdown Hokies! - VT 38, ND 21. This puts a lot of pressure on Notre Dame with not a lot of time left (5 minutes), but if anyone can do it, a Beamer-led squad can.

Cotton takes to the field yet again, and like clockwork, gets this well-oiled machine down the field, and into position to score and bring them within striking distance. With the clock just over 3 minutes, Cotton drops back in the pocket, has a guy open, but fails to see Telvion Clark coming off the corner, and Clark wrecks Cotton as the ball flies free:

James Gayle picks it up, and takes it un-touched down the sideline 73 yards for a touchdown as Laiti paces with him towards paydirt - VT 45, ND 21 - any possible comeback by the Irish was squandered at this point, with only 3 minutes left.

Cotton doesn't give up, as they move down the field and score with a little over a minute left to pull the score to - VT 45, ND 27.

The on-side kick takes a Hokie bounce, and Grayson recovers it, and allows the Hokies to run the clock-out, and win the game.

Erin - "I am standing by with Coach Foster - Coach, how do you describe the feeling of winning this game, and how do you assess how these players performed tonight?"

Foster - "Erin, I tell you what - proud is the word that I would use to describe this feeling. All season long we have pulled together, played with pride and emotion, and have never given up. After losing the first game against USC, it was time to find out what this team was made of. To be able to lose on the road in such a tough environment, and in a marquee match-up, and then turn around and rattle off 11 straight victories, I just could not be more thrilled to be the coach of this football team. They never gave up tonight, even after a scoreless first quarter, and after the Irish pulled within 3. Consistency and never letting the foot off the gas is what I always preach to these players, and I believe they are all starting to take on this mentality. I could not ask more from these guys, except maybe to win the ACC Championship and our BCS Bowl Game - but for now, tonight's victory will do (laughs).

Beamer has done an excellent job with this Notre Dame program, and this score board doesn't show how close/physical this game really was. I commend him for turning around Notre Dame, and for having the right game plan. We just had a few lucky breaks that we capitalized on, and that's often the difference between winning and losing. I will be looking forward to playing them in Blacksburg next season, but until then - the lunch pail returns to Hokie Nation!"

Erin - "What exactly do you have in that lunch pail Coach Foster? Is there anything food related - I am kinda hungry (laughs)!"

Foster - "Sadly Erin, we don't have any food in there. Trust me, if we did, it wouldn't be any left anyways after our defensive line got a hold of it (laughs). But what is in the pail is our mission statement, along with other notes of motivation. Monday morning, we will be placing a sticker from Florida State inside the lunch pail as we have our eyes set solely on them and the ACC Championship. We fell short last year against Boston College, but we do not plan to repeat that performance this year.

Jimbo Fisher will have the Seminoles ready after we defeated them earlier this season, and with film on us, they should be able to come up with an effective gameplan. We must do the same if we expect to win the championship.

Erin - "Coach Foster, as always, it's been a pleasure - thank you for sharing your time with us. Now go celebrate the big victory!"

Foster - "Thank you Erin, the pleasure is mine."

That's how it has been all year with Reid. He has a great arm, but throws a lot of errant passes, which makes it seem/feel so real because I am going to have to work to make him a dominant threat! You can see in the Notre Dame game he struggled statistically, but makes plays at the most opportune time, thank goodness.

understandable...can't wait to see the recap of Kinne's redemption performance. If you had a chance to follow my season at all, thats how my current season started. Went with a qb, lost a big game against USC on the road to start the season 21 to 20 with a qb that went 0 for 4 on the final drive when I had a chance to score and win. I kept with him for the West Virginia game that I barely won, and then the Georgia Tech game he made it half way before he got benched and the Brandon Reid era started. Sad thing is as a sophomore, Trey Gresh came in to the Alabama game (last season), first game of the year on the road and they were ranked in the top 5 I believe, as he was the 3rd qb, but both my senior quarterbacks got injured on both of their first plays of the game. He came in, first play from scrimmage was a 79 yard option keeper for a touchdown, and he led us to a victory 24 to 21 over Bama, easily my biggest victory yet. But then this season, he comes in and stinks up the place - unacceptable. So I went with Reid, and I haven't looked back since.

I am excited to see how this Beaver kid does. What a hilarious last name too
