Made a Blockbuster Trade Deadline Deal

I am in first place by 4 games in the central with Detroit. Hitting looks great, pitching is middle of the road. So I traded SP Rick Porcello, SS rookie Chris Nelson (whom I received from Colorado in a trade earier this year), and AAA prospect SP Andy Oliver for Zack Grinke and Yunieski Bettencort.

Now my rotation is Verlander (not playing too well actually), Scherzer (Cy Young Candidate), Grinke, Jhoulys Chacin (acquired also from Colorado earlier and a great addition), and Armando Galarraga.

Also, Peralta is on the 60 day DL so Bettencort will fill in nicely until Jhonny returns.

I'm guessing this worked because KC was in last and they were cutting payroll with all the players they received making only around $440K. I made out too though because Grinke only makes $9 million a year for 3 years and Bettencourt I think was only making $1 point something million.

As a Tiger Fan, and also in my Tiger Franchise, definately gave up a lot, but Greinke is a good pitcher, Porcello is a good pitcher for me and only 22 years old, and Oliver is so-so for me AAA, but it would be a tough call, b/c you are giving up 2 young top of the rotation guys, but hope it works out for you.

Well, the way I look at it is Grinke is proven and in this game he is highly rated so set aside his subpar year in real life.

My top 4 now are playing great and will hopefully get me where I need to go this season.

Plus, you got to give something to get something. Grinke is proven and Porcello is only somewhat proven and who knows what Oliver will bring.

Yeah, I see your point, yeah I just made a blockbuster for me also, I traded Valverde, Ni, and Scott Green for Oswalt and Lindstrom. Lindstrom moved to the closer role and I hope Oswalt will provide me enought for the stretch run, even though I am in June. We are currently 30-25, and going for it all this year as Lindstrom and Oswalt are Free Agents. Ni was killing it for me, but Schlereth is doing just as good, both have era's of 1.36, and Scott Green is doing very well at the AA level with a .49 ERA. He is 6'5 240, and has an electric arm, so like you said had to trade something to get something. Valverde is a free agent at the end of the year, but they make the same....oh well, hopefully Lindstrom can close enough for me to get the division or the wild card....I sit three back from the wild card and seven back for the division, Cleveland is just running away with it.

That's something you don't hear to often.
