Re: Madden: Editing Player Ratings in Franchise - Need Your Thoughts

I think a lot of problems could be solved by adding three sliders. One for progression (for how much better a player can get), one for what causes progression (have 0 be potential, have 100 be preformance, and those who want both can set it to 50), and one for regression. This would allow everyone to fine tune the ratings in a safe way.

The progression is drastically inflated, so many players get too good too fast. Combined with such talented draft classes (seems like 11 has more a rookies and higher rated rookies then 10 did), and the lack of regression on anyone aside from Mike Vick (why is he cursed to failure!?) player ratings get a bit rediculous a few seasons in.

Editing players would be nice, more options are always nice, but i think having some controll over progression and decline overall would be a better and easier solution for most poeple.
While i appreciate the direction Madden is going, i would like to know why i am paying $60 to be a beta tester.

Re: Madden: Editing Player Ratings in Franchise - Need Your Thoughts

Giving us the ability to EDIT EVERYTHING wenever we want would solve everything....In online franchise only the commissioner could edit stuff....

People who want all 99s on every single team could have it....Solo franchise guys, and there are still a ton of us have the ability to tweak as we see fit.

Being SO limited as we are now totally kills any type of enjoyment in franchise and its stale as it is...Why limit it more?

We will save the gameplay problems for another discussion....But i think we are past the point of no return on that one.

Good to see you here again Ian...This has been a good thread thus far with a ton a good input.

i would just like to mention that nba 2k11 and mlb the show 10 both have the ability to edit EVERYTHING about the franchise mode....including ratings, height, weight, age, salary, on and on and it works great. madden needs to start duplicating the best games out there and stop trying to reinvent the wheel.

Re: Madden: Editing Player Ratings in Franchise - Need Your Thoughts

I'd like to be able to edit player ratings at the very least. I like to start my offline franchise mode on the same day as the regular season and play games by the week which means that after I start I won't be able to update my roster with the online feature because the roster won't transfer over to an already started offline franchise.

So basically if a player like Michael Vick gets a huge ratings boost which could greatly effect my franchise I won't be able to update it because I can't edit players within the franchise and can't update the roster. This is why I think we need to at least be able to edit players ratings and if possible create caps within an already in progress offline franchise and use them within it in case players return from suspension mid season or new younger players make a roster and make a big impact who weren't part of the pre season roster updates.

By the way thanks for asking for our opinions Ian we REALLY appreciate it.

Re: Madden: Editing Player Ratings in Franchise - Need Your Thoughts

            A few thoughts on this

Potential shouldn't be a cap for the player, it should be an influencing factor for growth. A player should be able to have an 85 overall rating with 58 potential. That should mean that he is more likely to decline than get any better, but it shouldn't mean that he's going to end up at a 58 rating. Seems to be a bit limiting in terms of player types.

Another thing, I don't believe that the player ratings should be fully editable in online franchise, unless it is done with some sort of required approval by the league commissioner.

Lastly, the best way to fix CPU teams not being able to resign their players would be to fix the game economy. I know that's not an easy thing, but it's the best way to approach that issue. Also, for the type of player who would be editing to the point where a team couldn't resign it's players, add an option to turn off the salary cap entirely. That way someone who has very little care for realism would be able to do whatever they want for editing and if it breaks the game, he can unbreak it by turning off the salary cap.

Re: Madden: Editing Player Ratings in Franchise - Need Your Thoughts

I really think its a preference - make it an option at the start of franchise - like lock player ratings on/off - because i dont like it personally it gives me that thought in the back of my head that i can do it. but i understand where people want with the rosters to be the same. and as for progression i still think we should go back to madden 06. it was great and the training camp should be brought back not the drills we have now. if you use that remove the progression rating we have now and use the old one.

Re: Madden: Editing Player Ratings in Franchise - Need Your Thoughts

as a longtime offline franchise player i don't care about editing existing players as much as i do editing rookies.

the computer-generated rookies often have unrealistically "matched" ratings. like a wide receiver with 99 speed but only 78 Acceleration. there is no real-life NFL player with world-class speed and acceleration that low.

that's just one example. others examples would be speed burners with ridiculously low agility (again, no real-life NFL player has such a disparate set of ratings; in general, fast guys are at least sufficiently agile). or having running backs with 99 speed and 99 break tackle. it just doesn't happen in the real NFL.

this bothers me tremendously. if i could edit computer-generated rookies i'd be happy.

with "real" players, allowing the user to edit each particular rating within 10 points would be great.

thanks if you've read this, Ian.

I can do it in MLB the show and NBA 2k11 why not Madden and Ncaa?

Editing ratings would go a long way to help fix offline franchise espically those dang imported draft classes tired of seeing my 3 time heisman winning pro style Qb come in with terrible accuracy lol

this thread is asking for suggestions on how to implement and to what extent we could edit the ratings; through the use of a specific code, having the option to turn it on or off, etc. So I dont understand these people (in the minority) that come on here and say, "I have no interest in this ability." Thats great, your not contributing to the thread, if you dont like it or are not interested in it, DONT USE IT!!!! (If we do actually get the ability) yes peoples two cents should always be welcome, but understand the purpose of the thread.

If you do nothing else, please allow the ability to completely customize an incoming draft class, imported from NCCA Football.

First, Ian this is a great idea, and if you could give us a sneak peek of it for Madden 11 and fully implement it for Madden 12 and beyond that would be great. From going through all 17 pages, Ian you have been giving some great ideas from everyone here and so if you sum all 17 pages up you'll realize all we want is more user control of things. That's all you need to give us for future Maddens.

Another thing you could do is open that up to editing players before you enter Franchise, and here's what I'm thinking you could do with it if you open up that editing players outside of Franchise Mode, which would actually improve Franchise:

Give Us Bars for every player that we can move between 0-100:

                            - Willingness to Re-sign: We move the meter from 0 to 100, obviously if it's a high number that player will be re-signed, like Peyton Manning. On the other hand I could go to Vincent Jackson and lower his willingness to re-sign to say 30% where the Chargers let him go and be a Free Agent, similar to real life.

                            - Franchise Tag: This would just be the percentage that this player may end up Franchised instead of giving a long term deal. This also ties into the above and below with trade. Let's say the willingness to re-sign is low, but also you know that the team won't give them up easily and may want something in return. Example, Vincent Jackson's re-sign % is 30%, but his Franchise Tag is set up to 80% which will guarantee him the Franchise Tag.

                            - Trade: This is the percentage that a player may end up traded to another team, now this alone could improve the AI's ability to trade with each other and make offers to the user. Keeping with the example, I could adjust VJ's trade percentage to 90% where he'll ultimately get the Franchise Tag & be put on the Trade Block from there.

Retirement: For this, we don't need a bar for percentage a guy will retire, with this we just need to adjust a players retirement year in the game, adjusting your pre-determined Retirements. This would actually allow players to go and change the retirement year to say Year 1(meaning they retire after the 1st season) if they were to retire after the 2010 season. Let's use some players from last year, Walter Jones & Kurt Warner both retired last year but in Madden 10 both stayed for extra years, so if we had this last year we could have went in and adjusted it where Warner & Jones retire after the 1st season.

Let us do what we want. You made the game. We paid for the game so let us do what we want with it. There should be no reason why we shouldn't be able to create a league all to our own. If someone wanted to change TBrady's rating to a 50 overall we should be able to do that.

Sorry to bring them up but, NBA 2k allows us to do what we want so there's a way to do this without causing any bugs or glitches.

Feel free to pass on this info to the NBA Live/Elite team as well.

i just want to edit draft classes and i want draft to be randomized, so that will not be classes. it will be more challenging to draft.
I dont want any prospect coming over 80. The highest overall is a 82.
The ratings should be spread out. Their our alot of short qbs. it is hard to figure out who are power backs without the weights.
There a lot of 85 plus prospects coming in. there should be only around 5 total in the game.
