Free Agency 2011: Carmelo To Knicks

Hey guys i was just wondering if anyone picked up Carmelo in free agency while using the Knicks. I ask that because I am having a hard time trying to make more cap room, I released Wilson Chandler, Eddy Curry and Gallinari and I still dont have enough room. Am I doing this right because I think im not?

You should have traded them, now their contracts go on your cap.. Correct me if I'm wrong

When you release a player, aren't you still responsible for their contract? I believe so..

Yep that is correct. You are still responsible for the contract when you release a player. It's better to trade them so the team that picks up the player takes over the contract.

Im still having a hard time trying to make the cap room, I pretty much have to release everyone outside of Stoudemire. I would appreciate it if someone can figure this out.

You're not supposed to be releasing anybody. That's your problem.

NBA contracts are guaranteed. You have to deal the player in order to get them off your salary. Releasing players does not work in real life or the game. If it worked in real life, wouldn't the Knicks already have dropped Curry?

I didnt release anybody this time, I traded pretty much the whole team besides Amare. After im done with an Association game I am going to try a few other things cap wise.

In my 'chise, Melo went to the Grizzlies. He has an average of 24.3 PPG, 8.1 RPG, 4 APG, 1 SPG in 5 games.

Well did you trade them for expiring deals? And you shouldn't have to deal everyone. Maybe deal one or two guys who dont expire at the end of the year but not everyone. OR you could have dealt for Melo....

This. You should have enough cap space at the end of the year..

Hey I got more cap room, I realized that I was simming the "resign Players" option so the computer was resigning my players. How do you do a sign and Trade?

Don't release anyone, trade away Ronnie Turiaf though, because he will want to use his player option, and that will take the $4mill extra you need for Melo. Trade him to the kings for their 2nd round draft pick, then at the end of the year, don't resign anyone, but offer a qualifying contract to both Chandler, and Fields, just incase Melo still still doesn't go your way.

Then offer Melo the deal he wants on the first day of free agency. After a couple days, if a team didn't outbid you, you just got Melo.

I am giving Melo the max 5 year $98 million contract and he still keeps on signing with the Nets for more money. How do I do a sign and trade?

You can get Melo to the Knicks via 2 trades...

Trade Anthony Randolph and Wilson Chandler to the Grizzlies for OJ Mayo...

Then flip Mayo, Galinari, Eddy Curry's expiring deal and a 1st round pick for Melo and a bench warmer (Gary Forbes gets accepted).

Voila, u got Melo and A'mare while hanging onto Fields with Felton running the point... and it's not the most unrealistic trade i've ever seen. Think of it as a 3-teamer :-)
