    SMH at Kobe

    Rank Player Usg% Season Tm
    1. Kobe Bryant 38.74 2005-06 LAL
    2. Michael Jordan* 38.29 1986-87 CHI
    3. Allen Iverson 37.78 2001-02 PHI
    4. Dwyane Wade 36.22 2008-09 MIA
    5. Michael Jordan* 36.00 2001-02 WAS
    6. Allen Iverson 35.92 2000-01 PHI

    8. Kobe Bryant 35.34 2010-11 LAL

Notice how all of those other teams had garbage around them...... and that player usually took a zillion shots/dominated the basketball.

I think it's usage rate, basically the % of possessions that end with him shooting or turning it over or something like that.
      NFL: Bills
      NBA: Bucks
      MLB: Cubs
      NCAA: Syracuse

        Re: SMH at Kobe

        Hoopdata tracks it..

It's percentage of offensive possessions used by a player during his time on the floor

It's a formula that combines a bunch of different stats..

To me it pretty much tells you which players dominate the ball and the possession on a consistent basis

        The leaders this year:
        1. Kobe
        2. Melo
        3. Wade
        4. Durant
        5. James
        6. Westbrook
        7. Amare
        8. Rose

I mean Kobe should be in the top 10 I suppose, but when you look at how his number stacks up historically, it's truly mind boggling.

The guy has the deepest team the league has seen in years. Use them for christ sake.

I've been saying for years he could have made things a lot easier on himself had he actually used his teammates correctly.

God knows what LeBron or Wade would do with that Laker team.

Kobe knows he should win with that team. but him winning BECAUSE of his team is beneath him. he wants to win, don't get me wrong. but he wants to do it on his own terms, and doesn't want anyone or the entire team to take away from his star.

There is no doubt in my mind that he will change his ways and adjust in due time. Phil will make him.

Still, it's crazy how much of the workload this guy is putting on himself, for no reason at all.

So those are all-time rankings in the original post? That's pretty intense.

Kobe this year is a shock but what is up with MJ at #5?

I'm thinking the OP got this from basketball-reference.com
in which case, the * by both Michael Jordan listings would signify Hall of Famer.

EDIT - the OP stopped after 9, but check this out...

                        10. Tracy McGrady 35.24% 2002-03 ORL
                        11. Jerry Stackhouse 35.16% 2000-01 DET
                        12. Dominique Wilkins* 35.16% 1987-88 ATL
                        13. Bernard King 35.07% 1984-85 NYK
                        14. George Gervin* 35.01% 1981-82 SAS
                        15. Tracy McGrady 34.98% 2006-07 HOU
