Re: Dallas Cowboys War Room
Bowles was the Cowboys secondary coach for 3 years. 05-07, I think.
I'd be shocked if Big Red didn't get the gig.Comment

Re: Dallas Cowboys War Room
im not happy about it at all. we need a coach who can win now before romo, ware and witten get out of thier primes. Our defense was all time bad under garrett and we cant score in the red zone. It seems like everyone forgot what the expectations were going into the season. garrett takes a team that was regarded in the preseason as the most talented team in the nfl to a 5-3 record with 3 of those games against backup QBs and all of a sudden hes red jesus. Do we just forget the years hes come up short as an offensive coordinator. They only way this is a good hire is if we get good def and offensive coordinators and garret is not allowed to call the plays.Comment

Re: Dallas Cowboys War Room
Keep in mind the 3 losses were all very close games. He certainly brought a different attitude, effort, and confidence to the team. I think he can get it done. He does probably only have 2-3 years with this team for a Super Bowl run.im not happy about it at all. we need a coach who can win now before romo, ware and witten get out of thier primes. I think he can do it. Who else in the coaching world would you wanna hire? Cowher didn't mention he'd like to coach the Dallas Cowboys. Gruden appears to be staying in the TV booth. There are no other real solid options. Harbaugh from Stanford was someone I thought about but wasn't even considered. I think Garret can get the job done.
We do need another DC though. I don't know who but someone else. Garrett can call the plays. The play-calling got better once he was hired as interim head coach anyhow.
The running game was used more and Witten was the go-to guy in the red zone. Witten was really never used much in the red zone the past few years. Especially for getting TD's. I like the hiring myself!

Re: Dallas Cowboys War Room
it wasnt like we had 5 years of bad seasons though it was an 8 game stretch and wade would have still gotten fired had we gone 9-7 or 10-6 and missed the playoffs
i would have at least had a talk with cowher, gruden, fox, billick and fisher (assuming he was to get fired) before making a hire but by all accounts garret was confirmed as the HC before the last game even kicked off. It was jerrys fear of another team snatching garret up that forced him into a hasty decision. Jerry is working his way into the mount rushmore of bad GMs headed up by matt millen, al davis, and aj smithI think he can do it. Who else in the coaching world would you wanna hire? but garrett was the play caller before so he has to take that blame too and we still have no chance if we get in the red zone and even a FG isnt guaranteed since Buehler is so inconsistent. We ran the ball more but its still hit or miss and with barber sure to be cut we need to find a feature back. The play-calling got better once he was hired as interim head coach anyhow.

we can argue all day but garrett is (unfortunately) going to be the HC so thats in the past. On a more positive note who do you think well take with our #9 pick?Comment

Re: Dallas Cowboys War Room
That's a good question. I haven't heard anything about the early possibilities. Who knows what we might do with this pick. We are needing in so many areas. Probably defense first. Probably in the secondary first. On a more positive note who do you think well take with our #9 pick?
We also need OL pretty bad but I see us taking defense with the #9 pick. Probably a safety! Alan Ball isn't gonna cut it. Sensabaugh does a pretty good job but nothing great.NCAA- GO VOLS

Re: Dallas Cowboys War Room
there arent really any top 10 OL talents so it will probably be defense. ESPN has us taking patrick peterson CB from LSU so if we take him we have to move either jenkins whos awful at man coverage or newman whos losing a step to safetyComment

Re: Dallas Cowboys War Room
Peterson would be a solid pick IMO. Newman is getting some age and gets burnt too much. Jenkins just had a bad year. He made too many mistakes and penalties. He can play the position. I believe he just lost confidence once the team was going bad and those mistakes of his own doing.
I think Jenkins and Peterson would be a good CB combo. Now, I don't see Newman playing safety. He's never played it nor does he have the body to play it. He certainly has a better body than Allan Ball though. I can't believe we couldn't find a better replacement for him. The problem is Newman's contract is pretty hefty for him to play a backup role at CB.
We may try to trade him if we do go after Peterson. Jenkins might be a trade target instead of Newman because of his stupid penalties and critical mistakes. I just think Jenkins has more going and is much younger in age as well.
Newmans better days are behind him but Jenkins can get better. Newman used to be a pretty good cover corner but that's not been the case for the past couple years. He's been burned so many times trying to cover WR's. Jenkins is now a better cover corner but needs to cut down on the mistakes. I think Peterson is a great pick at #9 for us.

Re: Dallas Cowboys War Room
We cant afford to trade any of them becuase we couldn't get fair value and it would be silly to sit one and put a sub par safety out there. Peterson / Jenkins has the same problem as the secondary we have now they will just pick on Jenkins. Jenkins can improve but he too much of a liability right now if were planning to try for the playoffs next year.Comment

Re: Dallas Cowboys War Room
In my opinion, Newman is more of a liability than Jenkins. Newman can't cover as good as Jenkins. Jenkins may have made more mistakes this past season but I think clearly Jenkins is now a better cover corner than Newman. We cant afford to trade any of them becuase we couldn't get fair value and it would be silly to sit one and put a sub par safety out there. Jenkins did make the Pro Bowl in 2009 if you remember. Newman hasn't really done much in the past 2-3 seasons. He's just becoming very vulnerable now. I believe this was just a down year for Jenkins. He didn't show much his rookie year but improved drastically after that.
I mean many analyst state Jenkins could be a future lock down corner. He was heading that way until this past year. You can't give up on him after just 1 bad season. He's got too many skills. That's why we drafted him in the 1st round. I'd rather see Newman go than Jenkins but that's me! :wink:NCAA- GO VOLS

Re: Dallas Cowboys War Room
Jenkins is much more of a liability becuase when Qbs have the choice they will throw to whoever jenkins is covering over whoever newman is covering.
if you remember newman also made the probowl in 2009. They both did becuase our front 7 was so dominant they hardly had to cover before the QB had too much pressure. Jenkins also got dominated in the playoff game against the vikingsJenkins did make the Pro Bowl in 2009 if you remember. Newman hasn't really done much in the past 2-3 seasons. Jenkins might be better than he was this year but hes not going to be a lock down corner.
