I see what you're saying about Manning, but the reason he threw the picks was not just because he stared down the WR (although that made it a bit easier for the DB/LB) the main reason is he made the wrong read. No one can understand what is going on in his head, he has a great skill at reading defenses and understanding the game. The reason he made the decision to throw quick is probably from watching film all week and past experiences with the team he thought he knew what they were doing and just was wrong. However there are many times when he would throw quick and pick up a good 5-10 yards because of recognizing the defense pre-snap. Many elite QBs are able to do this week in and week out. Ex: watch Brady this weekend he does the same thing. They understand the game in their own way.
