The reason why I think the NBA is failing for me

Outside of the fact that there are too many teams, the death of the NBA began when they started allowing the zone defense to creep into the NBA. If I remember correctly, people like dirk and Nash were getting destroyed on defense because they couldn't keep up in man to man. I really wish those days were back. Maybe I would be able to watch now. Maybe I am also suffering from post-Jordan syndrome.

I just felt like back in the 90s 85% of the teams were worth watching. Now it's like 35%. Maybe I have just grown away from the sport.

    Any thoughts?
I doubted you Roy Williams since you only won with a someone else's team... Now you have proven me wrong.

    You have earned my respect.

Flopping has hurt the game way more than zone defense IMO.

There are a lot of teams worth watching again in the league though it wasn't that way for much of the 2000's. I think it's on par with the 90's at this point, though it's tough to top it without MJ still playing and the spectacle that was him/followed him.

How about the inflated number of whistles and stoppage of play? Too many TV timeouts. Too many technical fouls.

The referring hurts the NBA. The lack of 3Point marksmen hurts the NBA.

We need a "5point" line in case you're down by 4 or more and need to shoot from half court to tie the game.

The reffing and the probable corruption is the problem. At times, it makes me want to stop watching. It's only the love of the game, the Bobcats, and the best athletes in the world that keeps me being a fan.

Zone defense, when done right, is awesome for the NBA. It forces players and coaches to adjust on the fly and see what they can do against it. When it's done wrong, like the Knicks last night against the Jazz, it's horrible.

The only thing I don't like about the NBA are the refs. They're horrible. And the hand check rule.

Superstars teaming up instead of trying to beat each other is what is ruining the league. The whole AAU culture has eliminated rivalries and made all the players buddies (unless they get in a fight over cards...)

I think the league is starting to recover from the post-Jordan era. There are too many teams, and the refs are a joke, but I seeing more up & coming young stars.

If last year's Finals Game 7 didn't get you juiced up about the NBA, I don't know what to tell you.

Yeah it hurts college basketball too

If you really want to get technical, USA Basketball is hurting the NBA with making players buddies and wanting to play together

                  Games take to long.

                  1. Coaches have way to many timeouts. 7 timeouts with only 5 players and they are all in shouting distance is over the top.
                  2. Refs assume that if a shot is altered that it has to be a foul.
                  3. I hate the intentional foul stuff at the end of games. Last 3 minutes of the 4th quarter shouldn't take 20 minutes real time.

That being said, I don't think the league is failing by any means.

That game almost turned me off of the NBA. You know, with the Lakers taking 20 more free throws in the game, and taking 21 in the 4th quarter alone...

but really, the refs treatment of stars has made it waaaay too unwatchable for me. I remember Jordan getting calls, but it was in a more physical NBA, where if they didn't call things, someone like New York or Miami was going to plant Jordan on the DL for the rest of the season.

but Kobe, Durant, 'Melo, Wade, and LEBRON take this to new extremes. If any of you have watched the Heat this year, you've probably noticed the same things I've noticed..the Heat attempting over 20 to 30 more free throws per game than their opponents.

I think the refs just need to let the game get a little more physical. These are grown men...let them play grown man ball.

                      Bullcrap.

Rodman a Bad Boy played for The Bulls.Guys have chased rings for a LONG time, and USA Basketball isnt the reason why.

Gasol to LA - Garnett to Celtics.

Free agency or trades - it is what it is.

The NBA is fine to me but I would cut the down to 26 teams.

The 'star treatment' has been going on for decades, man. You're right, I wish the league was more physical, but you know Stern's not having that.

                          .
Stern himself agrees with this and I hope gets tweaked in the future. It'd be great to only have one timeout in the last two minutes. The micromanaging and timeout-heavy ends to games blows.

When you lose your belief in the legitimacy of the product that is being put forth, it is the death knell.

I can't take the NBA as seriously anymore since May 31st, 2002.

Those guys were at the end of their careers, not in their prime. You didn't see Jordan leave the Bulls when he couldn't get past the Pistons.
