Re: MLB '11: The Show Community Day Gameplay Q&A
i saw the youtube video... it looked weak to me. based on that video i imagine same as last year, put the batter in an invisible suit, the bat hovers around the hit box for you to wave your move controller...
i thought they'd be able to have the camera angle to where you're feeling like you're right in the batter box... thus closer up facing the pitcher...
definitely looks like from the video, a limited implementation of move just to say it's in there.
heck if they can program it to where when you turn your own head to the pitcher and that's when you engage the pitcher, that'd be hot.
they already have the the view when you press the button on the controller to check where the 3b or 1stbasmen are to bunt.Comment

Re: MLB '11: The Show Community Day Gameplay Q&A
I think you can choose if I am not mistaken.
I don't think anything has changed on this front.2. Will a first inning quit work the same as last yr where game doesn't count?
I heard if you get plunked 6 times you automatically get the win.3. If you play a punk and he's losing can he continue to bean you and make the score 100-2 and us honest players be helpless? Or will he get kicked out and receive a loss?
You can have separate camera views as long as they are from the default ones in the game. No custom ones can be used online.4. Can opponents have different batting views and pitching views? Could I bat from a farther away view and pitch from behind the mound view online?
I am not totally sure but I am going to say no on this.5. Lastly, I'm sneaking this in bc I never have found an answer to this. Will sounds of the show work online?? Can I hear like fox and espn music online even tho my opponent can't or will this cause disconnects? Target area is the same but it is more challenging to hit your spots. The meter only moves quicker when pitchers are in the stretch not because of talent or anything.“The saddest part of life is when someone who gave you your best memories becomes a memory”Comment

Re: MLB '11: The Show Community Day Gameplay Q&A
The catcher does a pretty good job blocking pitches this year. It will be toned down compared to last year.I hope this includes passed balls as well? sorry if this was already answered. Just seems like this happened all too much in prior versions.
Also did anyone see a balk while playing it and were they hopefully few and far between as well? I like that the game has all of the real life possibilities, but the frequency of such things isn't very high.
I did not balk once during my time at the event. It is only going to trigger if you quick pitch by not letting the pitcher set. Pretty easy to avoid imo.“The saddest part of life is when someone who gave you your best memories becomes a memory”Comment

Re: MLB '11: The Show Community Day Gameplay Q&A
The biggest difference you will find with your bottom end rotation is that is was more challenging to hit your spots and the tired a little quicker. They can get dinged up and lose confidence but it was not a total implosion like in passed versions.Nemesis,
Great job on your reflections! Seriously.
As far as analog pitching goes (combined with a more stable confidence meter), did pitching with a number one feel a lot different than pitching with a number five?
I'm concerned that the bridge between aces and inexperienced/gap starters may be less noticeable this year, mainly because confidence played a large role in meltdowns.
SCEA does a remarkable job with their player ratings, so I'm sure I have nothing to worry about, but would like some reassurance that once I feel comfortable with the new pitching system, aces will still act like aces when "on," and number 5's will get lit up from time to time; regardless of my analog skill.
Any thoughts on pitcher/ratings differentials?
Glad you enjoyed the write-ups!“The saddest part of life is when someone who gave you your best memories becomes a memory”Comment

Are you saying that there are fewer big innings then? With '10 sometimes I feel like all the offense occurs in one inning. Also, how scoring occurs, do you feel it is spread out among different ways rather than much of it coming via the home run? It might be hard to answer because of the sample size but i'm interested in your thoughts...Pitchers and Catchers Report; Life Worth Living AgainComment

Re: MLB '11: The Show Community Day Gameplay Q&A
Can you explain how analog pitching changes based on a pitcher's confidence level? Or lack there of?
Also, it has been said that how long you hold down the analog stick determines how hard you throw and what direction you throw it determines how accurate your throw is ... In analog throwing, what determines how quickly your fielder releases the ball?
For example, how do you differentiate between taking your time with a throw versus quickly sending off the throw with a quick release?Comment

Re: MLB '11: The Show Community Day Gameplay Q&A
I probably played about 15-20 games total. They were not all against the CPU but the offense was pretty diverse. Sometimes homers, some small ball, some back and forth, one-sided affairs etc!Thank you for all your replies.

Re: MLB '11: The Show Community Day Gameplay Q&A
Hey Nem,
Just curious if you will be doing a write up for analog fielding. I think this is the only gameplay area you haven't touched on yet. For years fielding has always been the weakest part of the show. Has fielding really been improved with analog? Do you actually feel like user input has a direct impact on errors? In the past all errors just seemed totally random. Is there still a arm strength meter for throws? Does it actually work this year or is it still broken? Now that you have had a chance to experience all the new analog controls do you feel you will be using analog for everything or are there certain areas where you will stick to buttons? Which analog feature (batting, pitching, fielding) do you feel has been implemented the best?
Thanks. Sorry for all the questions, just really excited about this years game.Comment

Re: MLB '11: The Show Community Day Gameplay Q&A
If you lose a considerable amount of confidence you will lose that release point line at the bottom of the analog shaft and on the push up it will be more challenging to match the hollow ball icon at the top of the meter.
As soon as you are moving the stick the system is calculating throw strength and accuracy. Also, it has been said that how long you hold down the analog stick determines how hard you throw and what direction you throw it determines how accurate your throw is ... The throw strength meter grows underneath the player with 3 rings (Green, Yellow, Red) Green indicating a softest throw and red indicating a strongest throw. Surrounding the strength meter will be the accuracy meter: green means perfect, yellow is iffy and red usually means you are going to get off a bad throw and commit an error.
So if you wanted wanted to get off an easy throw you would lightly point the right stick toward the desired base, watch the strength meter swell to the desired spot and let go. The accuracy based on your input will show up immediately after the strength meter fills.“The saddest part of life is when someone who gave you your best memories becomes a memory”Comment
