Recruiting Board
Does the recruits interest in your school rise if he is on your board even though you do not call him? My buddy was telling me that he only recruits 10 to 12 guys and that is all he puts on his board. My question is should I fill all 35 spots to keep the recruits interest in my school even though I am not recruiting them early in the season.

Re: Recruiting Board
It depends on how you recruit. Some people like keeping only 15 people on their board, hoping for better odds on an insta commit or x2. I fill my board with all 35, because I like the bonus of having every recruit gain interest even if I do not talk to them.North Carolina Tar Heels

Re: Recruiting Board
The 2x only goes to 3 guys on your board. If you only call 10-12 but you have 35 on your board, then there is a bigger chance you won't benefit from the 2x fully. It may show up on guys that you didn't call that week.LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOO MOUNTAINEERS!

Re: Recruiting Board
Exactly. The x2 goes to 3 people on your board. The instacommit goes to one guy (maybe twice a year). These things happen randomly, as you either get the x2 3 times, one instacommit, a purple diamond recruit (don't even worry about it unless you want to spend 45 minutes looking through recruits), or random pitches unlocked on a few recruits. Each week, you get one of these events.North Carolina Tar Heels

Re: Recruiting Board
Yes - I have seen my school rank rise without me calling guys on my board.
King24 - The diamond means that the recruit has a secret interest in your school. If you add him to your board, your school will suddenly appear in his top 10.Click here to read my dynasty report:

Re: Recruiting Board
I always start with 35 guys. I'll only call 12-15 of them initially, but I like to keep the backup guys on the board for the free points. Often you can get 1/3 of their total interest increased over 6-8 weeks by just keeping them there. This is really useful for lesser 4-star and all 3-star guys (if you're a big program) since you have a head start when you do decide to recruit them. I find the 2x bonus over-rated and not that helpful. I prefer to keep an eye on lots of players. Even 4-star players will often keep you as #1 without calls if nobody else has offerred a scholarshipComment

Re: Recruiting Board
I am in my 5th year at Kent State and have usually kept my board full to try and upgrade the team. I am in week 11 and normally have 15+ players signed by now.
This season kept the board at under 15 since I only needed 1 player. I have signed 6 players, 5 4* and 1 5* that had me 1st at the beginning of the year.
I have found recruiting is harder this season. However, I am not sure if it is because I am recruiting higher caliber players or because there are less of them on my board....Comment

I'd rather keep my board stocked with talent to keep my eye on. The only time I keep less, is if I only have 10 or so projected roster openings. If it is the usual 18 to 25 signings I have to make, I keep the board at its max and go down as people sign elsewhere.Click here to read my dynasty report:

Re: Recruiting Board
I too have seen guys rise on the board without me talking to them.... but its always good to check 'where they were last week' (you'd have to have it written down) vs where they are this week as far as points...
I.E. You could be 3rd on a recruits list (2nd at -80, you 3rd at -100) and then ther next week you might move up to 2nd, but are now -350 behind 1st...
So sometimes getting that move up the board might be slightly deceptive...Comment

I noticed that when I added about 10 recruits to my list 5 weeks into my season, that all of there interest in my school went up even though I did not call them.
1) Yes recruits DO gain interest simply by having them on your board, regardless of whether you call them or not. The amount does seem to be different based on the amount of interest the prospect is receiving globally. Say for example a prospect has 1 or no schools recruiting/offering him, typically you'll gain interest every week and eventually you can become #1 on his board without even calling him once (if he has zero schools recruiting him or even on their boards).
2) The 2x bonus should NOT be underestimated. The bonus coupled with a full 1 hour call (I dont ever call less than 1hr-except when its the excess of whats left) is basically like an A+ visit. Often times I've been #4-6 on a guys list sometimes 500+ pts behind #1 and by landing that 2x bonus I've gone from #6 to #1, and landed a 5* guy that I'd NEVER have gotten otherwise. Does this mean you should keep a 10-15 prospect list? Not necessarily... just dont undervalue its benefit.
3) Preseason and 1st week should be the only week you have 35 uncommitted prospects on your board (committed players dont count against the 2x and unlock bonuses). By the start of week 2 or 3 it should be obvious what guys you have NO chance with. Remove any player with 4+ offers that isnt a MUST HAVE and you arent in his top 5. These guys are likely to cost you a shot at 2x or unlock bonuses and you're not likely to land them anyway. Better to remove them and increase your odds.
4) Know what you need and how many of it you need. In years you're only losing 6-12 early juniors/seniors your board should only be about 20-25 prospects or so, in years that are 15-20+ then yes, having a full board of 35 players is probably more beneficial than the exact # you need.
5) In week 3 I highly recommend two things;
A) Remove prospects from your board that you have no shot at landing
B) Sort through the prospect list for unrecruited prospects. Any prospect that remotely fits your scheme even if they dont have you on their top 10 list should be added if they have NO offers/visits setup from other schools. MANY times even with 2-3* prestige programs I have built my rosters with unrecruited 3-4* talent that I landed with very little effort simply because the CPU doesnt seem to recruit very evenly.
6) Anytime you become #1 on a prospects list check the following weeks in the recruiting reports section for your prospects competition. If your #2-4 competition is spending 0 minutes recruiting him now, then typically you can begin to do so as well, or at least spend 10-30 minutes instead of the full hour. The recruiting reports section is a very useful tool to maximizing your recruiting time allotment. This also works well to check on the prospects that are only being recruited by 1 school, a lot of times you can quickly gain ground on a prospect that a CPU school has thought they already had because their lead was so significant.
So in summation, I would say its all about what your needs are. Low prestige schools (1*-3*) should generally recruit a full board simply because you can go for the unrecruited high * prospects and get lucky quite often with guys who are usually much better than anything on your team, where as the 4-6* schools should be a bit more decisive on their boards sticking to 20-25 prospects as its more about landing elite talent yearly than it is about complete team overhauls and hoping to get lucky. Either way though, be DECISIVE, dont let guys you wont land sit on your board, remove them and either replace them with unrecruited talent, or simply lower your board totals to increase your odds on 2x bonus so you can land the 5* guys you really want. Simply put, if you dont need a lot of guys, dont put a lot on your board, if you need a lot of guys or you're a low prestige/weak roster school then fill your board.Last edited by Strategy101; 01-20-2011, 06:27 AM.Comment
