      2011 Season Week 2

CAM KNOCKS THE 'BOYS OFF THEIR SADDLE

If ever you can pinpoint a game where Cam Newton showed the Redskins made a good investment in him, this is it. All he did was throw for four touchdowns & post a rating of 115.7 in the 49-28 surprise blowout against their hated rivals, the Cowboys. The victory makes it the largest one against Dallas at Dallas since 1989 (beat Dallas 30-7), & the most points they ever scored against them.

After two series where Dallas missed long field goals, “Deuces” struck first by connecting on the first of two touchdown passes to tight end Chris Cooley. By the end of the first half their running game which was anemic last week against the Rams, exploded when Jerious Norwood punched it in for a two yard touchdown to help take the 21-7 lead. From there the Cowboys kept in the game thanks to Tony Romo’s mistake free play. However the Cowboy’s D was uncharacteristically sloppy, giving up 234 rushing yards from Jerious Norwood & Cam Newton combined. Though they didn’t force any turnovers & gave up 388 yards in offense, the Redskins defense made key plays late in the game to prevent any threat of a Cowboys comeback.

Another major performer this game was another rookie, Ryan Broyales. Just like last week against the Rams, Ryan has a touchdown catch & a kickoff return touchdown in the books. After Romo connected with Patrick Crayton to make it a 21-14 game, Broyales ran the kickoff back 94 yards to keep up the 'Skins momentum. The victory today puts the Redskins in a first place tie with the Giants. They have much momentum as they go into their game next week against the Packers.

'SKINS D SHAKES UP THE PACK TO WIN 2 STRAIGHT

The Redskins next stop on their two game road trip proved to be just a fruitful as their last one in Arlington. They kept Aaron Rogers & the Packers at bay as they coasted to a 26-12 victory in Lambeau. In a game featuring the last two Heisman trophy winners, the Packers rookie running back Mark Ingram scored their only two touchdowns on the day. The rest of the day for Green Bay was riddled with missed opportunities on offense & a secondary that couldn’t stop Cam Newton’s cannon of an arm.

After an impressive first drive for Washington which resulted in a Newton to Cooley TD for 37 yards, Newton struggled for a bit. He threw two interceptions which kept the game close heading into the 4th quarter. Cam’s receivers had big days however as both Devin Thomas & Malcolm Kelly each had over 100 receiving yards (the builk of Kellys from a 73 yard bomb for a TD). Green Bay put up a good effort but they couldn’t keep up the rhythm on offense in the second half.

The Redskins were in the lead for most of the game & it proved too much to over come after Cam Newton’s TD pass to Ryan Broyles to ice the game for them in the Frozen Tundra. The Redskins head into this week with a bye & a chance to ensure that their leader on defense London Fletcher has enough time to come back for the Week 5 match up at home against the Jets.

Fletcher practices, expects to start Sunday vs. Jets (Oct 11, 2011)

LANDOVER, M.D-- Redskins middle linebacker London Fletcher participated in his first practice in about a month on Tuesday. He suffered an abdominal tear during the first series of the opening day game against the Rams.

"I feel like I'm 100% again." Fletcher said after the practice. "I started things a little slow at first but by the time we were all done I felt like I was back to a high level. I really feel good about playing this Sunday."

Fletcher is listed as probable & is expected to start this Sunday against the Jets.

                        2011 Season Week 5

THOMAS AMAZES IN 'SKINS 3RD WIN IN A ROW

The 2011 Redskins are continuing to surprise many early this season. This time they took on the Jets in a match up between two 1 loss teams, with the ‘Skins in the end remaining with just 1 loss. Washington forced the Jets to settle for four field goals in the 28-12 victory. Jets QB Mark Sanchez was held to only 57 yards passing, his lowest total of the year, & the running game kept it competitive but it wouldn’t be enough for them to make a comeback late.

The star of the game was Redskins wideout Devin Thomas, his 6 receptions for 162 yards & 2 touchdowns was what propelled the ‘Skins lead & kept the momentum going throughout. After his first TD catch & a Graham Gano field goal, the Jets began chipping away at the lead. They forced a Cam Newton fumble late in the 2nd quarter & continued hitting field goals. At the middle of the 3rd the Jets pulled into a 17-12 score. Then at the closing seconds of the 3rd quarter Cam Newton threw a 69 yard bomb to Thomas for his second touchdown. Newton then ran in the two point conversion to make it 25-12.

Another highlight for the ‘Skins was the return of defensive captain & linebacker London Fletcher. He had 6 tackles but his presence was certainly felt during the game. Getting some key tackles for losses down the stretch that helped seal the game. Up next for the Redskins is a showdown with fellow 3-1 team the Arizona Cardinals on Monday Night Football.
