    Rookie hitters club forms here!

Hello, my name is Jeff (Hi, Jeff!) and I hit on Rookie level.

    Where my rookies at?

Seriously, though, I've read all these threads where people are talking about how they use legend or hall of fame hitting, but they still have to use sliders to make it more difficult, etc. And the whole time I'm thinking "It's hard enough for me on Rookie!" I can't imagine trying to control a stick and hit the buttons at the same time and all that.

So this may be a crickets chirping topic, but I figured I'd start it in case there are others out there who play on Rookie and enjoy it and feel no shame, so you can post here and revel in the fellowship of your fellow rookies without feeling like you're the only one who isn't getting bored with how easy Legend is.

In my case, MLB 10 The Show is the first Playstation game I've ever played. Both the system and the game were a birthday gift last Summer so it took me long enough just to get used to all those buttons! The last game system I owned was the Sega Genesis which I think had five buttons counting the select and start.

I curse whoever invented that vibration in the controller thing, that's just disturbing. I turned that off as quick as possible and it took me a while to figure out how to get my settings saved so I wouldn't have to re-turn it off every RTTS game.

    Hi Jeff!

I won't allow myself to hit on rookie. I know that's where I need to be, but my pride gets the best of me. I hit on Veteran. Like I said, I know I need to be hitting on Rookie, because I'm horrible at hitting. I just talk myself into it.

Ha! Recently, on my Giants fantasy draft franchise, I had a series against the A's where I had back-to-back games with a ton of hits, in one of them something crazy like 27 hits, and I actually thought about trying veteran. Instead, I ended up using the sliders to reduce "solid hits" and contact a bit to try to make it a little more realistic (I still was losing plenty of games with it on default sliders but getting a ton of hits!.) Since the change, I still had one game with double digit hits, but the other three games I have lost 2-0, lost 3-1 and won 1-0!

I don't know if/when I will make the jump to Veteran but maybe at some point in the future once I have played at least one season all the way out.

I'm a rookie hitter too. I just can't watch pitches. I swing at almost anything and have horrid timing. Every so often I get hot for a week or so, then it's back to normal.

I'm on board with both of these comments. I still use veteran. I also seem to be swinging at everything right now. Didn't used to be that way, but it is now...

No shame in hitting on Rookie. I'm all for people playing on the level that best suits them, instead of trying to play on the harder levels because 'that's what everyone else is playing on.'

I'm a timing-only guy (don't use the L-stick when batting) and MLB 09 on the PS2 was my first MLB The Show experience. I spent most of the year on Rookie and Veteran. When I moved to the PS3 last year, I started on Veteran for a couple of weeks, then settled in to All-Star and have been there ever since. I honestly don't think I could go any higher than that, and I'm OK with it because I'm having a blast with the game with the difficulty I'm at now.

Last year was the first version of the game (edit: for me). I became so frustrated with hitting that I just sold it. But I'm back again this year re-thinking the purchase of '11. Maybe I just need to stay at Rookie longer.

Regardless of difficulty level, you really have to work the count. You'll usually get more hittable pitches (i.e. belt high fastballs), with 2-0, 2-1 or 3-1 counts (or at least that's how it usually works for myself). You can't be afraid to take some pitches even if they're strikes. Nothing really new here, but I always realize if I start hacking at everything, the hitting usually suffers.

I just sold my copy of 10 since i was frustrated with hitting and bugs in franchise mode. I'll definitely be checking out 11.

I used to hit on rookie, and there's really no shame in it. It takes a lot of skill and discipline to move to the higher levels.

Well said I'm on Veteran hoping to start losing more games.. even on Veteran I can finish a whole month 28-2 :/
So when 11 comes i'll move up slowly
Why did I move here? I guess it was the weather.

I moved down to All-Star recently, and I moved up the Contact slider nad turned down the pitch speed because i just strike out too much STILL. I really want realizism, so I'm afraid to move down to Veteren.....but I probably will. I don't want a bunch of 15 hit, 10 run games, I just want it real, and averaging 10+ K's per game just is making me frustrated.

                          Rookie hitter here!

I hit with contract and timing at zero with power at 3 and solid hits at four. Universal sliders I keep at default except for reaction at zero and injuries at one.
