It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine. -
Re: 2011 Atlanta Braves
Yeah, I read from DOB's Twitter, and then later the article he wrote, that Chipper is going for the lowtop spikes and high socks. I'm hoping some of the other guys will hop on-board, too.
Prado stopped pulling his socks of mid-season, I think. I had to go into the player editor and change his pants, but maybe he'll opt for the high socks again this season. Huddy wore the old-fashioned stirups in one of our throwback games. Looked pretty good, actually!
EDIT:
Here's exactly what was said:
♣ Chipper’s going old-school: Jones also revealed Tuesday that he will wear low-top spikes this year, after years of playing in high-tops. He was wearing high-tops both times when he blew out his left knee, in August and back in spring training 1994, when a torn ACL pushed back his rookie season to 1995.
“I’d much rather sprain an ankle than do that [again],” he said. “So I’m going to low-tops, and I’m pulling up the pants. I’m going old-school.”
He plans to roll his pant legs up near the knees and wear them with solid blue socks provided by his longtime equipment company, Mizuno.
And if Jones does need to go back to high-top spikes for any reason, expect the pant legs to come back down.
“I can’t stand guys that pull their pants up and wear high-tops,” he said. “Bad. Just a bad look.”

Re: 2011 Atlanta Braves
Nice article/blog. His point about a back up SS is a good one, but I know we have three SS in the minors who are actually highly thought of. Maybe one of them makes the team out of ST or at least gets a call up if Gonzo is hurting. Love hearing how good Chipper is feeling/playing. In the end only playing 95 games last year might be a good thing as I think he'll be more rested coming into this year. Kind of wish we used a DH though...he'd be much more suited for 150 games as a DH and I don't think we can count on much more than 125 games out of him in the field.Yeah, I read from DOB's Twitter, and then later the article he wrote, that Chipper is going for the lowtop spikes and high socks. Pitchers and catchers report tomorrow.
FYI... if you are on Twitter and aren't following Peter Moylan and Kris Medlen, you are missing the hilarity. Both were tweeting as they drove to Darkstar. They are also living together this spring. Should lead to some comedy.Comment

JT can you post theirs and any other Braves players twitter accounts? I have the Cyborg Hanson one and that is funny as heck sometimes.Comment

Re: 2011 Atlanta Braves
Read something this morning that I thought was pretty cool:
Since 1900 only 7 players have had an OBP over .380 at 20 years of age. You might recognize some of the names - Ott, Teddy Ballgame, Mantle, Kaline, Foxx, A-Rod, and....Heyward.
Pretty elite company right there!"People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment

Re: 2011 Atlanta Braves
The thumb/wrist injury really hurt his overall numbers. Look at these splits (from fangraphs):
He slid into third on May 14th and injured his thumb.
These are the numbers he had up to that game (Apr 5-May 14):
.299/.425/.608 (31 games, 97at bats)
While playing hurt (May 15-Jun 26):
.222/.328/.361 (40 games, 158 at bats)
After his DL stint (Jul 15-Oct 3):
.302/.419/.457 (71 games, 265 at bats)
That puts his numbers surrounding the time he first injured his thumb, and his DL stay, as follows (102 games, 362 at bats):
.301/.422/.533
If he stays healthy this year, I honestly think he can be an MVP candidate."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment
