    Play by play gripe

Seriously, hasn't Gary Thorne done play by play for games on Versus for a few years? For the love of Chri$t our savior, is there a reason he can't pronounce Michael Delzotto's and Brandon Prust's last names correctly?

Actually, Thorne hasn't called NHL hockey since it was on ESPN. He did cover the junior championships though.

I could've sworn he did a Ranger game on Versus this season. Maybe it has been a long time though. It really bugs me though. Love the game aside from that and the goofy trading AI though.

Gary Thorne's play-by-play is horrible, in the game and in real life.

There's worse. Although I'd vote for a change to Mike Emrich for the next installment.

Yeah he would be a great addition to the game.
Thorne and Clement are getting a bit stale, although I have to agree there are worse than Thorne.
Joe Bedinati (Caps and Versus announcer) pops into my head on that one.

While personally, I still really like Gary and Bill in the game.

But to have a new announcing team would be sorta welcome. Just this alone, would add a fresh feel to NHL. I wish that Dr. Emerick would find his way into the game.

The names in the game that arent pronounced properly are just atrocious and ive given up trying to talk about it. A new team is the BEST possible action, the others are ok but they are stale, boring, same old sayings every year, and it does NOT flow at all with the game. Id like to see maybe:

                Joe Bowen
                Bob Cole
                Richard "Rick" Jeanneret
                Harry Neil
                Randy Hahn
Jim Hughson (NHL 98 was awesome)
the guy that i think does the NJ games and most of the playoff games on american channels.

                  Re: Play by play gripe

IMO Jim Hughson was a joke (his commentary literally seemed to be for comedic relief in game as opposed to being a good real life play by play guy). The Gary Thorne and Bill Clement tandem is better than any Vs. combo, but that is again an opinion. I like the duo but I think the mispronunciations are more a product of the engine than of Thorne.

God yes....his work in the Olympics especially was some of the best hockey play by play i've ever heard. I want that guy to emcee my wedding.

I think the annoyance comes from the oft-repeated lines the commentators say that have been in since NHL 08.

EA should partner with either NBC or Versus and get rid of the generic overlays and the same commentary that we've had for four years now.

This, and the fact that most of the commentary seems biased against the user. I don't know why, but whenever the CPU team takes a penalty, the commentary alludes to my player taking a dive, or something along those lines. In contrast, whenever I take a penalty, it's always a dumb penalty, sloppy, etc. and obviously flagrant. Annoying. In past years, I've actually shut the commentary off because it has been more of a nuisance than anything else.

Oh, and speaking of mispronunciations, didn't we have Kristian Huselius as "USELESS" for at least a year or two from the announcing tandem? I thought that was egregious...

Yeah, the commentary seems far too critical to you for their own good. Take too many blocked shots, they say that your team's confidence level is low, even though you're thoroughly kicking the other team's butt. Make an errant turnover on your own zone, they claim it's sloppy and that your team's out of sync, again even if you're winning.

                            It's just annoying.

It's gripes about commentary that distract from real areas of need.... I'm sorry, but to me complaining about biased commentary is nitpicking...
