From little league to college, I was always taught to hit the inside of the bag with my left foot in order to maintain momentum. You use your left foot, to "push" off the bag and pivot towards the next base.

Yeah they are taught both ways. I just could never do the LF. I know if I tried now I'd fall down.
In some ways it does make since as I think I usually for some reason hit 3B with lF but I never did on 1B or 2B.
I could use LF IF I took a wide turn with no problems but I always felt faster taking a more direct approach with lends itself to using my RF as the push off foot.
Different teachings and techniques I guess but now I want to drive to field and try.. lol

Actually despite being taught to touch the base with your left foot for better "planting and force," it really doesn't matter. Your stride is probably more important, as well as your turn.

You don't slow down to stutter step or increase your stride just to get that one specific foot on the left corner of the bag. You judge it as it comes.

Yep since this was bugging me lol I did some searching online and what the most common saying is:
Stride and being the most comfortable is what's important. Whichever foot you are most comfortable using that does not stop momentum should be used. The only thing common everywhere I looked was making sure to hit the inside of the bag.

agreed, but after being taught a certain over x amount of years, it becomes natural to have your stride setup to hit the bag with your left foot.

Again, there's no right or wrong, just different teachings/techniques. I teach my little leaguers to hit the base with their left foot, while a friend of mine teaches them to hit it with their right.

I always liked the left foot as well, but there are times where you'd have to break your stride slightly to hit the base with it.

It's really a situational thing. There are lefties that have a different approach as well because they have a shorter distance to run. Also, everyone's stride is different.

Agreed. And there were times during my days in the sun that I had to break stride, but the one time in a game I tried to keep stride going and hit the bag with my right foot, I stumbled, fell, and was tagged out. Not a good feeling LOL

It's really a situational thing. There are lefties that have a different approach as well because they have a shorter distance to run. Also, everyone's stride is different.

Us lefties do everything different.

lol...in my entire career of baseball from T-ball to college, I have only hit 3 homeruns. One was in Farm League ball 8 & 9 year olds(inside the park), one was in 13 year old league(don't remember what it was called) but hit one down the line and one was in high school while playing against arch-rival New Albany, hit into right field.

I wasn't a power hitter, more a slap/hit for average player.

lol...in my entire career of baseball from T-ball to college, I have only hit 3 homeruns. I hit a total of 15 over the fence but did hit a handfull of ITP HR's before stuff like the 30's set in

I once hit a homerun that bounced right on top of the leftfield fence and then bounced over for a homerun haha. Happened to me in The Show as well

I haven't played adult baseball in 2 years, the last two years, I've played softball, but we are considering playing baseball again this summer. A friend of ours, who moved away for his job, has recently moved back(still with the same job), so the boys of summer are back.

Look out rec league baseball, here we come. LOL

Aha! So there ARE others who was taught to do it this way! I do agree with the common sense part of it, that if it's a matter of stutter-stepping to do so it would be counterproductive. The most important part is to keep your full stride.

On the subject of still playing, I haven't played Stan Musial since I tore my rotator cuff several years ago. I'm thinking about playing in a 30 and over league this year, though, as my arm feels good and I can still bring some heat (for a slightly out of shape 35 year old, that is!).
