Re: Madden NFL 12 Super Bowl Halftime Blog: Tuner Sets and Surprise Onside Kicks
Well in all honesty, they do have a few interactive animations like the one where the a player helps another player up off the field and the one where a tackled player rolls the ball into another player. I realize the fact that I can list them so easily, points out there are not enough of these but at least we know they can do it.The most disappointing thing in that whole blog video is how the players react after a play LIKE THEYY HAVE FOR THE PAST 5 YEARS! No life, just get up and walk around the field. No congratulating other players, no helping up teamates, no running to the side line with the ball. It feels the same as every other Madden, and these guys just refuse to grasp the idea.
Also, to all the people giving the Madden reform "doubters" grief, I don't get it. Those that believe Madden 12 will be great and those that are just taking a wait and see approach, that's cool. However, those that believe it will be just more of the same, that's cool too. Some of you guys act like the "doubters" have no legitimate reasons to believe what they do, when actually, based on these 6 years, the "doubters" have the most rational belief.
I would really like Madden 12 to live up to the standard discuss in the blog but the people that are convinced it will not, have every right to express that, IMO. I personally have renewed hope in Madden because of the addition of OSer Adem and Looman being moved back over to franchise. But my main issue is what I think Ian's approach to adding things to the game is.
The mantras "Everything you see on Sundays" and "True to Football" sound great but how you add things is just as important as what things you add. For example, surprise onside kicks are definitely seen on sundays and true to football but just adding them without a proper risk/reward implementation destroys the realism. Limiting the number of times someone can attempt a surprise onside kick or assigning some random dice roll to decide its' success, is not realistic risk/reward. Adding a surprise onside kick without implementing a way for teams to expect it, destroys the realism of a "surprise" onside kick.
Until Ian ( I say Ian because he is the creative director) buys into realistic risk/reward implementation to regulate Maddens' real football features, like PA pass, screen passes, double move routes, QB rollouts, double team blocks, blitz schemes, etc, we might get what we see on sundays but it will not play like true football.Last edited by 100 Proof; 02-07-2011, 09:35 PM.Comment

With 5 months of dev time left? (Goes gold a month before release)
Yeah, I'm sure it would. I'd rather it look similar with upgrades yearly than get a brand new facelift with a whole new set of problems...but wait until June/July gameplay videos before you throw in the towel.Comment

I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing that it looks like last year.
At this point looks do nothing for me. I wouldn't care if it was photo-real if the gameplay isn't polished with a compliment of defensive improvements."A man can only be beaten in two ways: if he gives up, or if he dies."Comment

Via Ian.
Since so many people have asked...surprise onside as of today is only allowed 2x per team per game. That value is also in the tuner set.Comment

Sounds good to me. I wasn't sure if they were going to put a limit or anything on it.Via Ian.
