Re: The Carmelo Anthony (NY or Bust?) Thread

Does anyone have an example where an Elite team TRADES an elite player w/in their conference?

How did Earl Monroe go from Washington to New York?

Denver is using LA for leverage. Its not real.

Jackson and LA arent desperate, like NY.

    Rumours........

Given the era I'm guessing the Knicks just gave a ton of coke to Washington to seal the deal.

He could stand to lose ten million or so under the predicted stricter rules of the new CBA. That is why finding somewhere to sign a 3 year, 65 million dollar extension is so important for him.

The Rockets in 1995 traded for Clyde Drexler. And needless to say, if the Rockets don't make that trade, they don't win the title in 1995.

I understand where you're coming from and in 99/100 cases I'd agree with you.

But as a Laker fan, give me Melo over Bynum's questionable knees.

If I'm a Denver fan give me Bynum over any trash NY or Chicago can offer.[/quote]
in 09 we got our *** kicked by boston. Bynum mere presence was important in both championship runs especially against boston last year because it kept the C's from dominating the paint.

You need to rebound and defend the paint to win a title and LA is taking a major hit in that area if they send Bynum packing.

Gasol at center with the rest of that front court and your team isn't winning anything. Get that small ball Phoenix/New York stuff out of here. That team now matches up less favorably with Miami (since they're giving away one of their biggest advantages in size/rebounding/interior D) and would get their tails kicked inside against Boston or San Antonio.

We saw how badly LA was manhandled up front in the 08 Finals without Bynum. We saw how Perkins missing Game 7 last June cost the Celtics the title. You NEED these players to win titles. Pau on his own isn't cutting it, he winds up in Duhwight's situation.

Bigs aren't what they were in the 80's and 90's in terms of centerpieces but they are still a much more important piece to a title team than many realize. I know he's injury-prone and only a role player but I do not give up Bynum for Melo unless you're thinking long term and willing to sacrifice a bit in the present (which I would understand - trying to build around Pau/Melo over next 5-6 years). You do not win a title now if you flip-flop Melo and Bynum, I don't care what anybody says. You won't convince me.

Melo and Kobe would coexist fine (at least while Phil is still around), the defense and rebounding though - meh.

same thing i would have said had i viewed and replied to this thread before you. i dont want melo if i have to give up Bynum, potato chip knees and all. we would be giving up our 1 major advantage over the Celtics, REBOUNDING!

the Celtics are not a good rebounding team. thier in the bottom half of teams this year and was there last year as well.

with a perimeter defense of Fish, Kobe, and Melo, we will get shredded. a frontline of Odom and Pau will get punked consistently. hell, Odom gets punked by smaller post players now.

i want no part of melo. ill rather wait and take our chances of getting Dwight in a couple years.

Wrong!! His best bet is to leave now and sign the extension because he already has a player option for next year at 18

Plus the 3 extra years for 65 that he will get. If he waits till off season he will lose the 18 option year and who knows what the new cba will hold

Like I said, Andrew's knees are too big a liability. Also as I said, I'd usually agree with you and ehh in 99/100 cases... but I've hopped off Andrew's bandwagon in terms of wanting him to stay at all costs. If a team is willing to give up a franchise or borderline franchise player for him then I'm for it.

Either way I'm just glad Andrew's contract isn't that bad.

You can reference 2008 all you want but Pau manned up after that series and proved the following two years that he could carry the load at center, and he got LA two rings in a row.

I'd say Kendrick Perkins going down in a heap got LA one of those rings. Along with Ron Artest of course. But that's a different story for a different thread.

He had surgery to repair torn cartilage in his right knee. Been rehabing, and said that his knee is feeling better. I don't know when he'll be back.

                          Kendrick missed one game?

PP had a few off games in the Finals?

I don't know man. Pau was a beast the past two playoff runs and in those runs he played center... they got two rings.

It ain't like he missed Game 1 though man. He missed Game 7, a Game 7 where Kobe Bryant, I repeat Kobe Bryant dominated the glass.

I'm saying you're going to downplay what Pau did in all of the other Laker wins before that game 7? What about what he did in 2009?

I did say one of those championships, meaning last year. Don't get me wrong he stepped up and showed he could play the spot, but to say he got them two rings is going overboard to make your point. All I'm saying is Gasol didn't exactly have a dominating Finals last year to be including last year as a ring he got them cause he wasn't that huge a factor in the series until Game 7 when he and the rest of the Lakers feasted without Perkins down low for the C's. If the Lakers had lost that game, nobody would have looked back on that series and talked about Gasol did his part for them to win, but since they won now we're saying he got it for them?
