Lack of Info, and Gameplay Video's?..makes me say SameOl

Now before everyone jumps on me for saying this is what has been like every year, your right i know that. But the problem is look at the outcome of every version of the game.

Nba 2k11 the amount of info and gameplay videos were a great amount. I understand they have 2 different development teams and i know that there is no way that MLB 2k11 will have the overhaul as NBA, but the comparison is just plain ridiculous when it came to info.

I just am surprised that how bad this game was rated and taken in by the community they would release more info and video's to show people the strides they have made to improve this game, but i am sorry for me it just makes me think the same ol is going there....sigh as a xbox360 owner i really hope i am wrong.

Actually, from what i hear, there were quite a few people that worked on NBA 2K11 that are working on MLB 2K11. I could be wrong, but i believe i heard that somewhere.

Yeah Id like to see some gameplay videos to and also some franchise information. But honestly I will be happy with injuries and errors this year. I wasnt as dissapointed in last years game as everyone was post the 2nd patch. Im in the minority though on that thought but I see what you mean.

Well, considering today is Thursday, they may release another developer diary. They kind of hinted in their last article that it may be about franchise. I know alot of OSers (including myself) are dieing to see what they have done with franchise. I'm just going to take the "don't expect much" approach and hope for the best. I really want this company to succeed so we can have 2 quality baseball games.

Have you not been following the information coming out about this game the past couple years? They are doing a much better job this year, its only Feb. 10th, you will get information in time.

Contrary to popular belief, quite a few people liked MLB 2K10, and the ratings weren't all that bad. The average seemed to be about a 7.5 out of 10, which is actually pretty good.

Kotaku even gave it the award for "Comeback Sports Game of the Year", so the developers are definitely on the right track. This year will be Visual Concepts third year with MLB 2K (well, technically their second complete year) and every year they've made good progress with the series, especially last year. 2K10 was very close to being a great game. All signs point to 2K11 being even better.

We all know that the marketing for this series could definitely be improved, but as long as the game is good I can live with the poor marketing.

I understand that 2k10 was not a bad game, but it was far from good. There were numerous amount of things that were broken in the game. I understand that it would be inevitable for VC to take a train wreck and make it better in one year.

I have been following the info for this year, and honestly its started great, but then we heard the EXACT same thing in every major publishing, nothing about all the OTHER problems that were wrong with the game.

I understand its Feb. 10th but that is less then a month before the game came out and honestly they havent said squat about if the numerous amount of sub par problems of the game has been fixed. no Q & A's develop blogs, like NBA 2k11, the community relations to MLB 2k11 have been horrid.

It really wasn't "far from good". Yes, it had some issues, but just add in injuries and fielding errors and it would easily be an 8 out of 10. Obviously not perfect, but still pretty good.

We seem to go through this same rant every year. Whether you agree or not with their marketing strategy, they seem to have a particular marketing arc in mind with the release of their games. Some companies will hit you early with a ton of information to garner the early interest from the consumer, reach a peak early, and then trickle info out in the days leading up to the release (sometimes new info and sometimes recycled info). 2K seems to wait until the nations attention turns to baseball, then slowly build some momentum with a steady release of info that increases the closer we get to release day. Since it is not a title that warrants a pre-order, I can understand the desire try to reach peak interest right before release. With so many consumers having such short attention spans, it seems like a good plan to me. And really, unless you were on sites like this one searching for info, you really wouldn't notice. Hell, Pitchers and Catchers haven't even reported to spring training yet. And until they do, I don't consider it to be baseball season yet.

If in two weeks the info is still sparse, then go all doom and gloom. Until then, try to understand that this schedule is part of their marketing strategy. A strategy BTW that I happen to agree with. It always seems to me that if you release too much info too early, you run the potential risk of two problems; 1) you risk losing the consumer if your big selling point is forgotten by the time the game finally releases, and 2) you risk over-promising on features that may not make it into the final build. The second one can be a death sentence to a game and a company's credibility.

The problem for 2K is (at least the problem in the consumers eye):

                    1) Whether they care or not, in the eye of the consumer they are competing with the other game as far as releasing info. If The Show is dropping news, people expect 2K to follow a similar schedule.

                    2) Once they start dropping info, people then expect a contiuous stream of info. The earier they start, the more time and space they need to fill.

So if they start early, the get reemed if they don't keep it up and if they start late, they get reemed for not keeping up with the other guys.

The bottom line is the majority of people aren't making their decision until the days before the release date and those that pre-order the game can always change at the last minute. It's nice to get info to talk about and analyze, but the bottom line is that whether it comes out today or in two weeks, it's not going to have an impact on sales.

I see your point but I don't get how they expect pre-orders to be high when no one knows anything about the game. I love baseball more than anything and even I won't preorder because I have no information to base a buying decision on. If pre-orders are what 2K is wanting, then they have to change their marketing strategy.

Yes we go through it every year, but that doesn't make the lack of information more tolerable and acceptable. It's an annual joke.

Lack of marketing dollars is an excuse. How much money does it cost to release a game play video or a screen shot, or a developer diary?

The most frustrating thing is that it seems that I see something about Top Spin 4 every day and that game comes out a week after MLB2K11!

Exactly rizing, it is pathetic how they handle it, the above comment about how do we pre-order something we have no knowledge about? I completely agtee with. I mean a few pics and nothing about the many things that plague this franchise, i could be wrong and todays developer's diary can be the start of something but 2k and with only baseball every year same crap same song.

Tolerable and acceptable? What are you going to do, stomp your feet and kick and scream?

I guess you could punish 2K buy not buying the game even if it is fantastic. Otherwise, who heck cares what info they release and when. I like it when I get that info, but this entitlement issues some gamers seem to get about unreleased games is just insane.

If you really want 2K to feel some pain, don't post about it. Don't talk about how bad you want info on the game. Pitching a fit because you can't watch some video of an unreleased game is just a good sign for 2K that their marketing is working.

Even if you say you won't buy it, that's a lie. How can you get this upset over a game you don't even know if you will buy? It's really ludicrous if you think about it.
