    So....What Team has More Championships?

Of course as you can see, I am biased because I am a Green Bay Packers fan. Steeler fans and I get into it all the time because we debate who has the most championships.

While I have openly admitted to the Steelers having the most Superbowls, it seems they want to discredit the notion that my franchise has the most championships.

I want to hear everyone's opinion, who has the most World Titles? Should we discredit the pre-superbowl era?

No...the pre-superbowl era should not at all be discredited...if you forget about it, than you forget about Jim Brown and the great Browns teams, the great Packers teams,...the Baltimore/NYGiants showdown...the list is considerable.

There were fewer teams then, but that shouldn't be a big deal...no one discredits World Series victories from 100 years ago...(especially Cubs fans like me!)

There are 2 eras in football...pre- and post-forward-passing...

Maybe a sub-era for the generation we are in now, given the rules changes that have opened up the passing game and seemed to have diminished the running game...
    Australian Rules Football...just sayin'

I wouldn't discredit them, but I do view them differently because of all the major changes that have happened since that time. You had things like the college all-star game with the college team matching up well against and sometimes even beating the NFL champions. A lot of NFL championships were won before the NFL could assert its dominance as the pinnacle of football skill-wise.

It's like comparing a BMW and a Mercedes-Benz. Both franchises are extremely classy and successful. Let the legacies speak for themselves.

Only Super Bowls seem to matter. Eagles get a lot of crap about not winning one, yet they have multiple Championships in the pre-Super Bowl era

Any NFL Championship won before the AFL/NFL merger technically counts, but doesn't have nearly as much merit as the ones after the merger did. You have to remember that there were only 14 teams in the entire NFL in 1965 (the last season before the merger) and it was only a 14 game season and there were no playoff games besides a single championship game to determine the winner.

Winning a Super Bowl in the modern era (especially since the Wild Card was implemented) is astronomically harder and much more impressive of a feat then winning an NFL Championship was in the 1960s was.

While I agree with you to some extent, I usually define a championship as being the best team in your league regardless of how many teams there are.

It is the definition of a championship.

But if you are going to use that as an argument that you have more or as many championships as another team, while "technically" you may be right, you may have a difficult time convincing people that you have more meaningful championships.

How much do past championships matter, really? I mean, the Packers just beat the Steelers, they're the best team in the league this year.

I mean, Cowboys' fans get told with some frequency that their past five Super Bowl titles don't matter any more. A different situation, perhaps, but to fall back after losing the Super Bowl onto a "yeah but we're still a better franchise throughout history" argument seems to be sour grapes to me.

A lot of fans (and even players, as has been demonstrated many times) don't know or care about the history of the game, and only hold the recent history they know of as being relevant. So with that goes the championships of the past as well.

Even as a Cowboys fan I'd say that Green Bay deserves credit for the championships that they've won. If anybody watches really old football (heck, even the Greatest Game Ever Played), you'll get an appreciation for what the game was like back then.

I'd say watch the Rugby Sevens tournament on NBC today and see how hard they hit and play the game. That's what football kinda was like back in the day. The Champions from the 1920's deserve as much credit as the Packers of today.

                          I think they all count.
                          NFL: Indianapolis Colts (12-6)
                          NBA: Indiana Pacers (42-13)
                          MLB: Cincinnati Reds (0-0)
                          NHL: Detroit Red Wings (26-20-12)
NCAA: Purdue Boilermakers (FB: 1-11, BB: 15-12), Michigan Wolverines (FB: 7-6, BB: 19-7, H: 15-10-3)

To be fair as far as perception goes, people cared far less about these championships on the days they were won than they do now. The main reason they have any importance is because of what the NFL eventually became.

I count 'em all. It seems like the start of the Super Bowls sort of reset the championships in most people's minds. You can't discredit a team's titles just because things change. We still count World Series titles dating back to 100 plus years when the game was totally different and there were far fewer teams. Nobody discredits the Celtics' 8 straight championships, but there were only 8 teams in the NBA at that time. (10 teams by the last season.)

All any team can do is win in it's current situation. I wouldn't want people 50 years from now trying to discredit our current day championships. Things may be way different then, but it shouldn't diminish these current day accomplishments.
