Walks in 11
I was just getting ready to finish up a season in the franchise mode of 10, in the final week and a half. In years past I always was quick to try and get a hit. When I got this game, I tried to take as many pitches as possible. I had gotten 255 walks with Albert Pujols, with 9 games left. When I worked out walk 256, the totals went to zero, and also, his at bats had 255 taking away, eliminating him for the MVP race. Will the same thing happen in 11, or will the total be worked up a little more?Tags: None -
Re: Walks in 11
Ya dun broke the dang thing! LOL
Are you serious, 200+ walks with one player?!?! I know some guys that didn't accumulate that with their entire team...
Just curious...what difficulty do you play on, and where is CPU strike frequency and control at?
You sir, are "The Greek God of Walks." Forget "Youka.." LOL -
Re: Walks in 11
It was on HOF difficulty. I didn't touch any of the sliders. I would take a lot of pitches, esp with pujols and really not even swing until 2 strikes, unless it was right down the middle. I would get a lot of fouls as well, but was working a ton of walks. Most of the time it would be in the 7-9 pitch range. Origionally my goal was to take pitches and tire out the starter, but then I was just seeing how many walks I could work out. Hoping they bump it up a bit for the 11 edition, just in case.Comment

I don't have an answer to your question, but I'm curious - what did his stat line look like?Comment

Re: Walks in 11
Interesting.
When I take pitches, it's almost a guaranteed 0-1, 0-2, or 1-2 count....every time.
If I foul off a bunch of pitches, all I'm doing is increasing their strike % and as a result their confidence. It's really tough on default sliders to get a good BB/K count with accurate strike %. The CPU is just too accurate and a strike throwing machine, especially once their confidence is in the 75% range or above you can almost forget about drawing walks as their strike % starts approaching 85-90%.
I have to put their strike frequencey down to 3 or lower, and turn down their consistency to 3 to get perfect results. I leave their Control at default 5 because if you lower it they start throwing more meat balls.Comment

You hope they bump up what? By the looks of it, there's no way you weren't amoungst the team leaders in walks. It was on HOF difficulty. I didn't touch any of the sliders. We're talking about 10' The Show, right? You never really said whether it was 10' or 09'.
I could draw a little over 3 per game on HOF, but I had to drop strike frequency to 3 and pitch speed as well. With A-Rod, I was able to get near the 100 BB range, but my other players would have FAR less, thus putting me in the bottom third overall.Comment

Re: Walks in 11
This game is smart! If they know you're hitting a certain way, they try to do the exact opposite. Also, when I did a fantasy franchise with Pujols and some medicore players, I would be lucky to see a strike early in the AB and if I did it would be something at the knees which they would throw another pitch down there to make me swing...Good stuff I'd say.Comment

Man that's some F'ed up.. Shiz.. Also it's a great accomplishment.. I'm sure this gotta be a huge disappointment to you. Anywho thanks for the heads up and Maybe a SCEA rep will receive this message in hoping this can be prevented in mlb11.I had gotten 255 walks with Albert Pujols, with 9 games left. Re: Walks in 11
I was getting between 1-2 walks a game. There were a few games I had none, but also a few times had 3-4 as well. The walks would normally come later on in the game esp, when a crappy reliever was in. This was on the 10 edition. I never got close to it on the 09 version of the game.Comment

Re: Walks in 11
I really hope they don't change a bunch of stuff that's going to screw up how everyone else plays the game just to counter extreme methods of gameplay.
What was strike frequency on? I ask because I have never heard of results like this, and plenty of others have tried to "work toward realistic walk totals".
Personally, i wonder how it could be interesting, fulfilling, and enjoyable to play the game like that. You walked 255 times with Pujols. I'm not sure what to say? Great? Neat? Wow? What a waste? Why?
Anyway, I hope they don;t try and make changes to stop things like this, if it will skew the way the game plays for those that take a more realistic approach.
I am certain you could alter the strike frequency slider to eliminate the situation.
This post reminds me of the situation with 2K baseball where after you hit 200 homers (or something like that), future homers actually subtracted from the total. The game is not intended to be played in a manner where once could/would accumulate 255 walks or 200 home runs.
Adjust the sliders to fit your gameplay strategy. That's what they're there for.GATEWAY TO GREATNESS: 2010 CARDINALS FRANCHISE

Re: Walks in 11
The real question might be what slider adjustments would give you a realistic amount of walks? To each their own with how you play this game but Pujols stat line would have to be a joke if he had 255 walks in a year. I'm guessing he had about 600 at bats. So his OBP would already be around .425 prior to even counting in hits! Pujols actual OBP in 2010 was .414.I was just getting ready to finish up a season in the franchise mode of 10, in the final week and a half. In years past I always was quick to try and get a hit. I also play on HOF, with strike frequency down 3 notches. The cpu throws a high amount of strikes and lives on the black with default sliders on HOF. I really don't see how you pulled this off. What is your pitch speed at?Comment
