    .299/.425/.608 (31 games, 97at bats)

While playing hurt (May 15-Jun 26):
    .222/.328/.361 (40 games, 158 at bats)

After his DL stint (Jul 15-Oct 3):
    .302/.419/.457 (71 games, 265 at bats)

That puts his numbers surrounding the time he first injured his thumb, and his DL stay, as follows (102 games, 362 at bats):
    .301/.422/.533

If he stays healthy this year, I honestly think he can be an MVP candidate.
Mother of God. I love the guy, but I feel like I'm going to have a Chipper Jones type hate for him over the next 10 or so years. I loved Chipper, loved the way he played, but hated how he killed the Phillies so much. Looks like Heyward is going to be the same way.

And yes, MVP is a definite possibility. Would he be the youngest ever MVP at 21? I'm about to look that up.

I was wondering the same thing not too long ago, and I believe the only other 22 year old to win the award was Vida Blue, as a pitcher in the 70's. I'm pretty sure he won the Cy Young award that year too.

Other than I don't think there have been any other guys his age or younger to win the MVP. I remember Pujols being one of the younger winners in '05, but he was already 24 or 25.

I know Vida won the CY in 1971 when he won 24 games and had a sub 2.00 ERA. Unfortunately the innings load really took a lot out of him and he never approached those numbers again. He was indeed the youngest to win the MVP.

Ryne Sandberg was the 2nd youngest to win it in 1984 (he was 24 at the time).

So he could be the youngest? He would be like 2 weeks younger than Vida if he won it this year. I kind of hope it happens, actually

              Wow...I never realized those splits pre/post injury....WOW.

And Chip looks awesome in the high socks, as usual. Hurry up, season.

Loving it! I saw Chipper's interview with Smoltz on Hotstove the other day. He looked really, really good and seemed confident he'll be playing this year. He really likes Gonzalez too...says he is a lot like Bobby.

It was really neat to see Smoltz interviewing Chipper though...you can tell they are good friends.

i look for Mike Minor to have similar numbers as Tommy Hanson had in '09
& Jair Jurrjens to be traded by june
95 wins & dependin' on what Philly does, either NL East crown or wildcard spot
really hopin' Freddy Freeman is real deal

I sure hope you're wrong on Jurrjens. He has been really good in 08-09 and just struggled with injuries last year. Right now he is healthy and he is still young (25 this year). A rotation of Hudson, Hanson, Lowe, Jurrjens, and Minor is solid and I don't think you mess with it.

Freeman will get every chance to succeed. I expect him to struggle early and end up with a 250/330/415 type line, hit 15 homers, drive in 60, and play solid defense at first.

Jurrjens will be comeback player of the year.

Here's the interview Smoltzy did with Chipper, just in case anyone missed it.

You'll have to type in "j.s", without the period, where it says "****" because it wants to censor it, for some reason.

Didn't work. This is what I mean in the "what would you do to grow the game" stuff and putting stuff on YouTube. This whole URL thing with MLB.com is a pain in the ***. Had to search it up myself on Google.

(then again, it's late and I'm a moron most of the time, so who knows?)

Argh... I dunno why this site even censors it, though.

See if it works if you just remove the period between "j" and "s" from this one.

Never crossed my mind that it was OS censoring it....weird. Disregard my post about Youtube and MLB, lol.

This is a good SI cover. Sorry that it is such a large pic, I was hoping OS would resize it like they sometimes do.
