HC09 by a long shot. In my opinion the only aspect HC09 doesn't completely blow HC away in is the practice system. Also HC is riddled with game breaking glitches that make it nearly unplayable even if you do like it more than HC09.

Yep, I loved being able to run practices in the original HC, but the 0-0 bug made that game virtually unplayable.

HC09 wins by a landslide.

Even with all of its faults. Head Coach 09 is the best sports sim ever.

Agreed. I wish the HC09 team had kept what worked from the original. The practice system and the ability to give suggestions to your players where great features that should have been worked into 09.

Well,the origional HC had a few features i really miss,like talking to the players about strategy,it made my runningbacks and quarterbacks so much more productive,the practice engine was awesome but very time consuming and on the new Head Coach 09,i absolutely hate defining moments! You can win 6 games in a row and have all of the approval you have gained be removed over deciding not to go for it on 4th down.

All in all because of technology HC09 is better by default

HC09 easy. Still play this game more often than Madden.

I think side by side 09 has a clear advantage in terms of technology and 09's bugs were not as dramatic of game killers as the 0-0 bug. I mean technologically you are talking about a ps2/xbox game against a ps3/xbox360 game. There is no comparison.

That said, with sliders available on PC I found that the original HC plays much better on the field and I really enjoyed a few aspects of the original game that if properly developed had so much more upside than the best parts of 09. The whole strategy/motivation system worked really well and I think had the series continued from their the meetings thing could have added quite a bit. Also the practice thing was more in depth and I liked that and I love the idea of a ratings range and I feel if done right that could revolutionize the way scouting and personel management works in video game football. Also, I enjoyed how there was some commentary after every draft pick.

However, offseason AI and uneven development between your player's and the computer players in the original as well as some of the upgrades the the offseason as a whole really put 09 ahead.
