My first season on Heisman with sliders...

I just completed my most realistic season ever on NCAA. I lost a game, which is rare, but I can't complain too much about it. I lost by 4 @ LSU, and had the ball on their 5 on the last play of the game (threw an INT).

I won a few games by a FG, one as time expired. I had a good mix of close games and blowouts. My offense struggled a bit, and slumped in the middle of the season, but finished strong. My defense remains strong, though.

I went 12-1, upsetting Miami for the national championship (2011). But it wasn't a dominant season, as I had to come from behind vs. Vandy and @ Carolina, then face FSU, before a rematch with Bama in ATL.

Now, there were still moments that made me shake my head.....the computer QB throwing to the left flat anytime he's in trouble is one. It happens 7-8 times EVERY game. It provides me with some pick-6 opportunities, but still. Unrealistic.

Also, the coverage of my DBs is an **** fail at times. Even when the CPU WR doesn't do a move or juke of ANY kind, my DB will go the absolute wrong way the moment the WR makes a cut, or even before that. There are CERTAINLY some drives where the CPU just decides it will score, no matter what. I know there's some argument about this, but I have no doubts.

I don't appreciate the entire defense being shifted towards the play-side on a run, despite running the other way and passing plenty beforehand. It's too obvious...the CPU needs to learn how to be more subtle.

I finally had my first punt return for TD in NCAA '11, but it was vs. a FCS team....and in that same game, I ran one back to the 4 yard line, but was called for clipping.....and the CPU DECLINED THE PENALTY! Seriously.

I'm just glad I didn't blow everyone out, punted from time to time, and utilized FGs. Despite the absurdities (including the amazing spinning, jumping CPU QB miraculous blind throws, which have been around for a decade and STILL not eliminated!!!!), I feel good about the season.

Re: My first season on Heisman with sliders...

I can relate to this post regarding Heisman difficulty... I'm in year 7 of my Wake Forrest Dynasty and about 60 percent of my games are played on a realistic level. My last two seasons have been 9 and 3 and over the years I've gotten Wake to a 5 star level. I can agree with the cpu scoring on offense. There are times when a no look pass or a 5 broken tackle play confirm that the cpu will score regardless of what you do. On the other hand I've used the 4-2-5 defense with selective recruiting to stifle the cpu run game for the most part. On Heisman i expect 2 - 3 plays a game to really test my patience so I tend to use my own 2-3 money plays to even it out. Running the ball requires patience but using the oregon spread offense i've gotten the hang of it racking up around 140-150 yds a game. All in all if minor glitches such as gliding front sevens and horrible ai coverage was fixed i think that Heisman would be the way to go. Also eliminating the psychic d as you said would help the realism of it all..

      What sliders are you using?

I have started playing all my road games on Heisman with no sliders and have almost broken my controller numerous times due to the computer seeming to get a cheap turnover on my first drive 90% of the time. Ball carry set to conservative and covering the ball with R1 in the hole and I still fumble? I don't think so!

I play my home games on All-American just b/c I should have a home field advantge. I would be interested in playing all my games on Heisman if I could find a good slider set to use. Thanks.

Re: My first season on Heisman with sliders...

I can relate to the OP as well, in my heisman dynasty with NC State, I am in year 6, playing with incredibly difficult sliders, and it is rare to get a good game. In 6 years, I am 79-6 (I've played one game in season 7). I think I probably get a close game 15% of the time.

Some seasons though, like the OP was talking about, it seems like the game just decides that the whole season is going to be difficult. In season 2, I went 10-2, losing at Miami 31-28 and at North Carolina 45-42. This past season I went undefeated, but had several really close games, decided by 7 points or less, including the National Championship vs. Auburn, which was an excellent defensive game (very rare indeed in NCAA 11) that ended 24-17 on a touchdown I scored with less than 3 minutes remaining in the 4thq.

My sliders are as hard as I can get them while still keeping the CPU abilities relatively realistic, but I love the rare defensive games. I thought it was very fitting to get one for the Nat Champ game.

Re: My first season on Heisman with sliders...

I don't know who's sliders they are, if anyone's. I just set lower the things that bug the hell out of me, and set higher the things I was too dominant at.

I'm still dominant on defense, though. I always use 4-3 Normal, Free Fire (blitzes ILB and ROLB) every play. It means I have safeties covering slot WRs, and while I understand safties don't cover like corners....it's absurd. The good news is I totally shut down the cpu's running game (used to give up around 0 yds for a season, this time gave up 200 for the season).

The bad news is, my safeties get beat about twice each game, just horribly. A guy on stilts rollerskating could cover better on some plays....it's just attrocious. They'll sprint backwards when the guy has made his out cut 7 yards ago....the biggest issue is they're flat-footed as the WR runs by.

My national championship was 26-7 vs. Miami.......I kick A LOT of FGs now, but still don't give up many points. My only loss @ LSU I gave up 24 points...and I gave up 100 yds rushing to FSU's RB. Aside from those, things were pretty normal on D.

I think on any difficulty to make it harder you need the speed adjustment (whatever the setting is actually called) put to 25 (50 is the default). It's the only thing I change and I seem to get realistic results even with the glitchy type things the cpu does. This is always going to happen. I've also realized putting my defensive line to aggressive is kind of cheating because the QB hardly ever uses a hard count.

I haven't set anything to aggressive or anything....haven't explored that part of the game yet. I might change it so the clock goes faster when I'm winning late in the 4th, but that might just be it.

I just recruited and started the next season, and blew out Louisville and FIU, as I should. I play @ Tennessee next.

Trust me on the speed threshold setting of 25. If you look around and see any sliders everyone has it set on 25. It makes the faster players fast and shows how slow a person is...no more defensive lineman running down the field to stop a break off run etc
