    How to play Association

So I am almost at the end of my first season with the Sixers. I played almost every game until the all star break, but then proceeded to play the most attractive game in each week and simmed the rest. I have done that for about a month and a half worth of games and I think it works nicely. Over the course of a whole season that gives you between 28-30 user games each season.

So starting next season I think I am going to run this method. It gets the season completed in a decent amount of time, and also force you to a build a good team so the cpu can win games with them. I also plan to play every playoff games (not making them this year)

Does anyone else do a method like this? any other suggestions on how to run a full 82 game season in a good enough pace to run through multiple seasons? Any comments or help is appreciated.

I do the same thing, mostly because I play 12 min quarters. I end up playing about half the games and simming the rest, playing all playoff games myself as well... Makes the season and stats more realistic and in-line with the rest of the teams, and it doesn't take me a year to finish one season

Woah, I might give this a try, I usually did 29 game seasons, but that was growng tiring because the stats didn't reflect as well. Thanks !

thats what i ended up doing as well. i was playing an 82 game season with 12 minute quarters was taking a long time so i would just play the big matchups.

              Re: How to play Association

I played every single game regular season (all 82) and post season in my first year. It was highly rewarding and yes I did win the title as well. However it took me from release date to the first week of Feb to finish. 5 months is a long time and this was having weekend late night sessions of 3-4 games every weekend for months mixed in with a game a day during the week. I also play with 12 minute quarters (won't play it any other way). I can't keep doing this and enjoy my other sports and non-sports titles.

Now I am in year 2 and 10 games in sitting at a surprising 5-5 and on a 4 game losing streak. I am going to play every game till the All-Star break then just play division rivals and marque match-ups and all post season games as I am now getting close to baseball season (my favorite sport hands down) and firing up my old standby MLB The Show 2009 (yep still playing that one) and getting my year three Yankees franchise up and running (still have not won a pennant and I play about 100 games out of the 162). I want to get in 2 more seasons of 2K11 before giving it a little rest as I have been playing non-stop since release. The game is so addicting!!!!!!

I play 12 minute, 82 game seasons and I only play away games. Lets you enjoy the presentation about the other teams and you get to see their arena. 41 games a year and I will play each playoff game if I get there. Right now with the Nets I'm 23-27 and I'm sitting in 9th

I started a franchise in late January and I'm already close to the All Star break. And I document mine on a forum so it takes me a little bit longer than someone who is just doing it and not writing summaries about the 'chise.

I Play through every game in my Current association (Lakers). I find that i get very realistic results with 8 minute Quarters and custom sliders (some all star sliders i downloaded then i tweaked them a bit) I'm in the playoffs of my second year and i probably continue playing until i pick up MLB 2k11.

                    Re: How to play Association

I have a slightly differernt set of house rules that shorten my season...although not as much as your methods do.

The stats are very realistic in this method.

So I START to play every game on my schedule, 12 minute quaters.

If at the end of one quarter a team is up by 10 or more points, I SIM the game until the end. Very rarely am I surprised at the outcome but sometimes I am. Like I was up 26-13 Kings over the Lakers, I simmed, and the Kings lost 111-98. Scored like 10 points in the third. But overall, I get what I expect.

If by the end of the second quarter a team is up by 20 or more points, I SIM til the end. Ditto 3rd quarter.

In the fourth quarter it's a little more complicated, just because I'm wired this way...

5 minutes or less, if a team scores and goes up by 15 or more, I SIM
                    4 minutes or less, " " 12 or more...
                    3 minutes or less, " " 9 or more...

I emphasize that a team has to score into these endgames. So if a team happens to be up 15 or more and the clock flips from 5:00 to 4:59, you don't SIM automatically. The leading team has to score first...if the behind team puts together a run and you can't get the clinching bucket...PLAY ON!

If I get to 2 minutes and it's within 9 points I play it out.
As you can imagine 4th quarters get real exciting around 5 minutes because it's almost like there are multiple ends to the game.

I've been able to get through a season and a half doing this since New Years, and I have a full time job with wife and kids I don't neglect!

                    Yes...it's insane...but SO much fun!

I have this weird problem where I have to play every game, but I'm going to give this method some consideration.

I'm exactly the same way... I'm currently 14 - 8 with the Raptors in an association... I figure, the more patient you are, the more you get out of the mode itself.

WOOO HOOO FOR NOT NEGLECTING KIDS!!!!!!

I play 56 game seasons...29 is way too short and 82 just results in too much simulation for my taste.

56 is just right. I typically play the first 5-10 games of the season, then play about half until the all-star break. Depending on how my team is doing when I sim, I'll play marquee matchups but typically sim the rest. Unless we're losing 3/4 games simming, I'll let the computer finish up the season, and put me in the 3rd or 4th seed.
You shouldn't worry about what others think of you, because if you knew how little they did, you would be insulted.

I saw this in this thread before. I play the biggest game of the week and sim the rest.
