Will Madden 12 use the same engine from the previous 6 maddens on 360/ps3?
I would like to know if we can expect any major changes as far as the engine and the gameplay are concerned with Madden 12! Perhaps 1 of the devs can shed some light on this for us all?Tags: None -

I don't believe we will see a new engine til the next gen consoles release. If they tried to implement it now it'll probably be half assed. No one wants an incomplete engine in place.Comment

Unless they did something new and I doubt it. Don't expect any change in the game engine. It will remain as it has in the past 6 years with some improvement. Unless they give us a sudden big suprise this year. But I doubt it very much.Comment

And this would be something new for them?
My guess is its gonna be half assed next gen anyway.

Yes. Not even an argument IMO.
They spent 2 years honing Pro-Tak and Locomotion. Pro-Tak handled next-gen tackling, and Locomotion handled next-gen running. There is no way Ian and the crew are abandoning all that growth.
Madden 12 and 13 will probably focus on tweaking the current "engine", and adding a bunch of removed franchise features from the old-gen era.
Then the Xbox 720 will come out and EA will have to decide if they want to scrap their "engine" (which is in reality just a set of programming code that dictates animation) or start all over again. That's the only time we'll see any significant changes in engine code, if at all.Comment

I would not mind that. There was a ton of great removed franchise features. Player Morale, Player Status, Player role, Emails, Progression.Comment

I do not think the current engine is good enough to provide us all with the type of game that we crave! It seems to be unable to do so many things that older versions of the game could! Something is just off about it! It does not have that smooth feel to it and one must wonder if it ever could!Comment

Do you guys even know what an engine is?
Seriously, someone explain it. If your answer is something like "better tackling", "improved OL/DL battles", etc. then these can be accomplished without a new engine.
A new engine would probably require about three years of refinement before it could be truly great. See: Triple Play to MVP Baseball transition.Ryan Spencer

This.
And Madden doesn't use ONE engine. Ian Cummings is on-record somewhere in this forum saying as much. There's (likely) a physics engine, and audio engine, an animation engine... point being it's not just a single black box that can just be replaced on a whim.Comment
