    Franchise Vs Season Suggestions

Hey, new to this forum, (and forums in general) and pretty new to The Show. Last year I chose "Season Mode" and played a full season playing every game. I ended up beating the phillies in the world series and then it was all done. At that point I wish I had chosen "Franchise Mode" so I could have played another year.

Anyways, after reading around through this forum, I hear alot of people who are smarter than I, talk about their franchises and so on, and was hoping someone could give me some tips on how to set it up with the "OS full Minors" and that sort of thing. I also want to be able to keep my team's (Rangers) roster accurate to real life throughout my first season.

I'm a new comer to the game and could use the tips from you guys on what do do or how you personaly set up your franchise.

    Thanks

    Welcome.

Like, how specific do you need someone to get on the rosters? Are you familiar at all with either the roster vault or flash/zip drives?

One word of advice...I'd steer clear of mirroring your team after their real life roster if I were you. I say this for several reasons, but mainly...

Say Texas unloads Feliz in real life (ain't happening...but just an example) because they are in last place. Why, in turn, would you trade Feliz if you were in first place and headed to the Playoffs?

Don't do this. Start with real rosters (OSFM) and make the rest of your franchise your own. Trust me.

Franchise beats season mode, hands down. I usually set up a 30-team control, but set the Global (CPU) roster moves to Auto. This way you can step in and, let's say, veto a CPU to CPU trade if it looks wonky.

All Profile (User) roster controls set to manual.

Thanks for replying, you bring up a good point there with your "Feliz" argument, I didn't think of that.

Question about the OSFM rosters, are they good to go with acurate major league team rosters as well? I just tried to get them on The Show 10 to compare but there were 400+ pages of rosters there in the vault and I didn't see a search or filter to find them so I gave up.

Sorry if this is redundant but there is alot going on with how you can set up your game and I didn't mess around with it at all last year (which was my first baseball game to play) so all these features are new to me!!

      Thanks

        Hmmm...

I generally go the flash drive route for that reason alone. I'm not sure if they added a search function this year or not. If you wanna look-see, check the Roster forum (above where we are...general discussion).

Once OSFM drops, however, it will be much easier to find on the vault. Usually within the first few pages. But, you need to watch out for fakes on there. Once he names them, remember it verbatim.

Knight and company set them for opening day. Even when they do updates throughout the year, they are still set for opening day.

To add on what I said earlier, I love playing GM almost as much as playing! Last year, I made some trades in order to suit my needs in my Yanks franchise, such as a deal to aquire Wandy Rodriguez. These 'fantasy deals' are much more rewarding then checking MLB.com everyday, IMO.

There is a quick way to scan through roster sets in SC online.
Move the highlighted column marker over to the "number of downloads" column, then press "X".
That should re-arrange the list to display top downloads first.
          Take one pass it on

Thank you for your input. I am going to take your advice and use the opening day guys and then make my own trades instead of mirroring the real life guys. (I'll probably play ahead of the real season anyways.)

Excited to play franchise this year and have more stuff to control and mess up other than just my lineup. 3 More days!!!

You can play several seasons in season mode, you don't have to stop after one year. Season mode is basically Franchise-lite as you don't have the minor league teams (only a 40 man roster) to worry about, but you do draft players. Season mode is great if you don't want to micromanage everything or don't want the CPU managing your stuff either. One pro of season mode is that you can pick the length of your seasons whereas in franchise it's always 162 game seasons (unless it has been changed for 11).

All of what Pheonix said is true...and is exactly why franchise is the way to go.

OSFM won't be done on Tuesday...more than likely at least a few weeks from then...

But trust me. It's worth the wait. I drool when I have the chance to call up a real life prospect that SCEA isn't allowed to include themselves.

I agree with you. I try to play all 162 games, and with my schedule, that usually takes me quite a while to complete. Season 2 picks up in Dec or Jan before the new game comes out in March. I don't need all the financial stuff that comes with franchise; just want to play games and manage my 40 man roster.
