These sliders are not so easy at first, especially if you come from easier difficulty levels. They have been made to reflect real NBA stats.
What happened to you is what happens the first times everyone use them. I mastered them after 20 or more games.
If you want to make things easier on you, you can lower the on-ball steal attempts to 50 and lower the hands slider down to 50 and then raise till you get satisfactory results. Maybe you'll be happy and settle with these values. Try it and adjust.
