Thanks. Yeah I was very surprised to see Mizzou lose to Bucknell.

Starting the new year tomorrow. I actually was in the middle of my opening game with Gonzaga when I lost power. I then left and went and purchased MLB 2k11 and played it for the day so I didn't get much done, but plan on getting up some more hoops stuff with my day off tomorrow.

      2012 COLLEGE BASKETBALL PREVIEW

Good Evening to ESPN "The Ocho" I am you host Bryan Scott. Tonight we will breakdown the Preseason Top-25 Poll as well as take a indepth look inside the Western Athletic Conference.

      #1 Kanas
"The Jayhawks are a well balanced team. They went 27-8 last year going 14-2 in the Big 12 finishing with the #3 RPI. They return 4 starters including Preseason All-American SO PGJ. Shelby and All-American SR SF Marcus Morris"

      #2 UNC
"The Tarheels finished the year 28-10 last year losing in the Final 4 to West Virginia. They however return 3 starters and add AA/Mr BB PG M. Whitted and PF Wilson Farmer to the list. Big things are expected from Farmer the Mr BB from Virginia as he was selected as a 1st Team Preseason All-American.

      #3 UCLA
"The Bruins finished the year 24-12 after making a run to the Elite 8. However they return all 5 starters, so this year's team wants nothing less then a National Title."

      #4 Arizona
"The Wildcats shocked the nation making a run all the way to the Final 4 as a #4 seed. Arizona finished the year 24-13 but just 8-10 in Pac-10 play. With 7 upperclassman on the roster they will look to make another deep run in the tourney"

      #5 Louisville
"The Cardinals won a amazing 28 games last season going 13-5 in the Big East, but were disappointed with the Elite 8 showing. With only 2 starters returning, it will be a new group of players looking to keep this dynasty going"

      #6 Memphis
"The Tigers might not play in the Powerhouse Conferences like the ACC/Big East,Big Ten,Pac-10,Big 12 or SEC, but Memphis has turned themselves into a powerhouse non the less and with 2 FR and 2 SO in the starting lineup. They look to keep that title for several years to come"

      #7 Duke
"The Blue Devils finished with their worst record in over a decade winning just 14 games but with 3 Incoming AA/Mr BB (PG K. Irving-85, SF-H. Crenshaw-82, PF-A. Pratt-82) joining the starting lineup, Duke looks to be ready to regain their spot as one of the nations best"

      #8 UConn
"The Huskies were shocked in the NCAA tourney losing in the 1st Round to #15 Oakland. With 7 SO and 3 FR on their roster, the Huskies will lean heavy on JR C A. Oriakhi for leadership. The bigman was selected as a 2nd Team PreSeason All-American."

      #9 Florida
"The Gators where once known as one of the nations best teams and will lean on JR SG K. Boynton and SR C A. Tyus to get them back to that status"

      #10 Georgia Tech
"The Yellow Jackets are led by a group of 5 JR's including 3 starters (PG M. Udofia, SF G. Rice and PF B. Oliver)

      #11 Florida State
"The Seminoles finished the year with the #2 Recruiting Class behind Duke, and will have 3 Freshman in the starting lineup this year led by Preseason All-American C F. Korajkic"

      #12 Michigan State
"The Spartans continue with the theme of youth with 5 SO and 3 FR on their roster, MSU is a year or 2 away from competing for a National Title"

      #13 LSU
"Like UConn, the Tigers were shocked in their 1st round loss in the NCAA Tourney and are looking for revenge. All 5 starters return from the team that went 11-5 in the SEC and won 23 games"

      #14 Syracuse
"The Orangeman are led by All-American Fab Melo. The Bigman will look to double his 12.3 PPG and 6.3 RPG avg of last season"

      #15 Indiana
"It's been a few years since the Hoosiers were among the nations best, but Coach T. Crean has turned things around in Bloomington, and with FR SF L. Sidney(76) and FR C J. Lee Conn(79) joining the starting lineup the future looks bright"

      #16 Georgetown
"The Hoyas find themselves in familar territory. Last year they started out as the #12 team before playing their way to a #1 Seed in the NCAA Tourney. They will look to do the same this year as they are loaded with underclassman (5 JR, 5 SO, 3 FR)

      #17 Kentucky
"Coach J. Calipari's team is loaded with youth (4 FR 3 SO) but that won't stop the Wildcats from challenging to be among the nation's best this year as they will be lead by 2nd team All-American SO SF T. Jones"

      #18 Pitt
"The Panthers like Duke finished with a disappointing 14 wins and missed post season play. Coach J. Dixon doesn't plan on letting that happen again. Like several other teams ranked ahead of them Pitt is loaded with youth (6 SO 3 FR) including 2 FR starters (PG F. Iti-80, and SF F. Minor-78)

      #19 Washington State
"The Cougars won the Pac-10 and claimed a #1 seed making a run to the Elite 8. With the return of 4 starters including 1st Team All-American SG Klay Thompson the Cougars will look for a repeat performance. Unlike most of the teams ranked ahead of them WSU is loaded with upperclassman (6 SR, 4 JR) so this could be it for Coach Bone for awhile as he will have his hands full with recruiting"

      #20 Clemson
"The Tigers face a difficult challenge playing in the ACC and will look to use their strength of schedule to help build a RPI worthy of a spot in the NCAA tourney"

      #21 Saint Louis
"The Billikens shocked the nation last year when they finished #3 in the country behind Kansas and UNC with their entire team returning SLU won't have the luxury of surprise this year"

      #22 Tennessee
"The Vols snuck into the NCAA tourney last year as a #11 seed aftering going just 8-8 in SEC play but made the Sweet 16 after beating Virginia Tech and SEC rival Florida, before losing to the National Champions West Virginia (63-73). They will look to improve on their 21 wins this year"

      #23 Minnesota
"The Gophers surprised everyone finishing 2nd in the Big Ten last year (11-7) but were disappointed when they were left off the bubble as they headed to the NIT where they lost in the 2nd round in OT to South Florida (72-74)

      #24 Ohio State
"Like Minnesota, the 2011 season was a disappointing one for the Buckeyes as they went just 16-14 having to settle for the NIT. They beat Texas Tech in Round 1, but loss 76-66 to Missouri in Round 2 finishing the year with just 17 wins. Coach Matta however expects big things for 2012 and it all starts with All-American Jared Sullinger (82 Overall). Like alot of teams OSU is loaded with youth (6 SO 5 FR)

      #25 Xavier
"With Coach Sean Miller leaving for Arizona, Coach Mack has kept things going for the Musketeers and with a team loaded with youth (4 SO, 4 FR). It appears Xaiver will keep their NCAA tourney trips going for several years to come"

Last season the Boise State Broncos shocked the WAC as 1st year Head Coach BJ "The Deuce" Derozan lead BSU to a 2nd place finish and then to a WAC Tourney Championship taking the Broncos to the NCAA Tournament where they lost in the final minute to #4 Arizona after beginning the season as the Conferences #6 best team.

This year is no different for BSU as the Broncos are picked to finish 5th. So only time will tell if the experts are wrong once again.

      Fresno State (77 Overalll)
"The Bulldogs won the WAC last season going 12-4 but where shocked by SJSU in the Quarter Finals of the tournament and had to settle for the NIT. The Bulldogs will lean heavy on JR C Greg Smith (80 Overall)"

      Nevada (77 Overall)
"The Wolfpack are loaded with talent including 5* AA PG B. Holden (77) JR SG M. Story (74), and SO SF J. Burris (71) "Voted Best Defender"

      San Jose State (77 Overall)
"The Spartans shocked the Bulldogs in the WAC tourney, but won't catch people by surprise this season. They are led by WAC POY SR PG A. Oliver (81) "Voted Best Overall and Pro Prospect" as well as added the Conference Best Recruiting Class (#39) including starters (FR SF T. Wood-75 and FR PF L. Leach-71)"

      Utah State (76 Overall)
"The Aggies were the Preseason #1 pick for the WAC and expected to be a Top-25 team, but those dreams never came true, yet Coach Morrill was still voted the WAC COY. This years USU squad has a total new look as 3 FR join the starting lineup (SG B. Taft(69), SF R. Simpson(74) and C S. Abulliah(67). Now the question is reall how good is Coach Morrill?"

      Boise State (76 Overall)
"Again the Broncos are picked to finish middle of the pack, and with 4 starters graduated and 7 new players on the roster this could be a rebuilding year for the Broncos, but the future does look bright as BSU will be lead by FR SF A. Leggee (77 Overall) "Voted Best Freshman" and SO S. Hicks (67) "Last years WAC FOY"

      New Mexico State (74 Overall)
"The Aggies are led by SR PG H. Laroche (71) "Voted Best Playmaker" and SR C J. Rahman (72).

      Hawaii (73 Overall)
"The Warriors surprised everyone when they made a run to the WAC tourney Championship game before falling to BSU. They return 3 starters including SR Z. Johnson (71) "Voted Best Shooter"

      Idaho (72 Overall)
"The Vandals have high hopes for Coach D. Verlin. The School hasn't played in a NCAA tourney since 1990 and has only made 4 it's entire existence and with 5 FR, and 4 SO on the roster it could be another couple of years before they will challenge to break the streak"

      La Tech (72 Overall)
"Once again the Bulldogs are picked to finish last in the WAC. Coach K. Rupp has his hands full as La Tech hasn't been to a NCAA tourney since 1991 and has only made the tourney 6 times in school history. He will lean heavy on SR SF O Ashalu (75 Overall)"

        ROSTER BREAKDOWN

With 4 new starters RS SO Sam Hicks will be asked to provide leadership on the court. Last year the PF was named the WAC FOY avg 12.4 PPG 7.2 RPG and .8 SPG starting in all 33 games for the Broncos.

The Broncos will rely on several key Freshman this season inlcuding 2 starters. SF A. Leggee was picked as the conferences "Best Freshman" and the Mr BB from Oregon will have to live up to the billing if Boise State will repeat to their 20 win season. Also Center Marcus Mbaye will look to duplicate the type of #'s that Hicks put up in the post this year. Mybaye was Montana's Mr BB.

The biggest need though could come from RS JR Drew Wiley. Wiley transfered from his hometown of Euguene leaving the Oregon Ducks for a chance of more playing time. Well the SG has big shoes to fill taking the place of Paul Noonon as the Broncos 3pt Specialist (79 3pt Rating).

With 4 starting spots cemented in. The Biggest Battle of the year will come at the PG spot. RS SR T. Nichols will start the year with the #1 unit after coming of the bench in all 33 games last year for the Broncos. He Avg 8.0 PPG, 3.2 APG and 1.4 SPG well hitting 47/104 3PT (45%). He will be challenged by local high school star Deron Fields who led the Borah Lions to 4 straight High School 5A Championship

Another roster battle will be that of the bigman off the bench. RS SO 7'1 I. Oeltjen saw action in all 33 games last year for the Broncos Avg 4.0 PPG and 1.4 RPG, but played a huge role in the WAC tourney scoring 11 pts twice as well as had 8 pts and 6 rebs in the loss to Arizona in the NCAA tourney. He will be pushed by African A. Diarra. The 7'1 bigman hasn't played much organized basketball but has impressed coaches with his lost post defense and blocking abilities in practice.

Coach Deuce take on this year's schedule "Obviously the season/home opener against Gonzaga is a huge one. The Bulldogs have established themselves as one of the best teams in the Northwest and a Mid-Major/Major Powerhouse. We want to be that team as well. Having to go to Cameroon Indoor Stadium to face #7 Duke will be the biggest challenge this team will probably face all year. If we can keep it close even a loss would still be a big boost to this program. #19 WSU will be huge as well. We only lost by 3 last year and I know Nichols and Hicks want revenge. The rest of our schedule is pretty tough. Oregon State, SDSU, Utah, and Washington all played in the NCAA tourney last year, and we all know the WAC will be a battle was eveyone wants to get revenge after our 2nd place finish last season."

TACO BELL ARENA IS PACKED FOR MATCHUP WITH BULLDOGS

BRONCOS AND ZAGS BATTLE TO THE WIRE!!!

          VS

Any time you see a scoreboard where both teams are in triple digits you think NBA, but tonight you would be wrong, as the Gonzaga Bulldogs and Boise State Broncos both hit the century mark in a high scoring affair at Taco Bell Arena in Boise Idaho.

Gonzaga would jump out to the early 12-4 lead, but BSU would battle back behind the play of SO Sam Hicks to tie the game 22-22. Poor rebounding however would allow the Bulldogs to retake the lead as Gonzaga pulled down 6 Offensive rebounds in the 1st half (Including 4 by S. Dower-6 pts 6 reb). SR SG Marquis Carter had a career high 19 pts in the 1st half on 7/12 FG 5/8 3pt as Gonzaga led 64-58.

(Boise State was led by Sam Hicks with 15 pts and 4 asst. FR M. Mbaye had 8 pts and an amazing 4 blocks in the 1st half as well)

Gonzaga would open the 2nd half with a 10-0 run as the Bronco faithfull grew quite, but SG Drew Wiley would change that in a matter of minutes. Wiley would connect on 4/4 from 3pt and backup SG/SF Prosper Fullove could come off the bench scoring 8 of his career high 10 pts to help spark a BSU run (16-2) to be down by just 2pts with less then 2 minutes to play. Then with 32 seconds to play D. Goodson would miss 1/2 FT and D. Wiley would connect on his 5th 3pt of the night to tie the game at (100-100). Again Gonzaga would look to hold the ball for a final shot but T. Nichols was called for the reach sending Goodson to the line. Goodson would connect on his 1st FT, but miss the 2nd. Mbaye would get the rebound finding Nichols on the outlet. Nichols would hold the ball at half court before hitting Sam Hicks streaking down the lane for the thunderous dunk as BSU took the lead with 16.4 seconds to play. (102-101). On the inbound play Hicks was called for the fould sending M. Arop to the line. Arop would hit his 1st attempt to tie the game but miss his 2nd however R. Harris was there for the rebound and would get the basket to make it 104-102 with 15.8 seconds to play. On the inbound play it was again Nichols to Hicks as Hicks slid past the defense for a wide open dunk (104-104) with 9.9 seconds to play. Coach Dezaron called the timeout.

"Don't foul unless you need to. Let's get this game to OT.. They are tired and shorthanded (R. Sacre had already fouled out)."

Gonzaga would take the inbound and instead of waiting for the last second shot. Marquis Carter would hit a long jump with 4.8 seconds to play to give Gonzaga the lead. With 1 last shot, Coach "D" put the ball into the hands of SG Drew Wiley. Wiley was on fire having connected on 7/12 3pt for the night and the gamer winning shot would be his for the making, but the ball would rim in and out at the buzzer as Gonzaga walked away with the win.

          FINAL SCORE BSU-104 GONZAGA-106

          (POG- SR SG M. Carter-27 pts (Career High) 5 asst 10-18 FG 6-11 3pt)

Coach Dezaron take on the game

"I felt like we shot the ball well, but our Defense was horrid. To let them shoot 50% from 3pt is unacceptable and 12 turnovers isn't going to cut it either. I also hate getting out rebounded and even worse hate giving up 2nd chance points (10 Offensive Rebounds=18 2nd Chance Points). I felt like we did a great job of defending Sacre and getting him into foul trouble early but also felt like we maybe focused to much on stopping E. Harris and because of hit Carter killed us. On a postive note, Sam Hicks played an amazing game posting almost a triple triple and D. Wiley showed he can shoot the ball . I was also very impressed with 3 of our Freshman. Leggee showed he can make plays getting to the rim and drawing foulds. Mbaye showed he can be a force on both sides of the ball scoring 17 pts and blocking 4 shots!!! and Prosper Fullove gave us a huge spark off the bench "

            FREE TACO'S FOR EVERYONE

            (1-0) VS (0-0)

After witnessing the Broncos score over 100 pts in the season opener against Gonzaga. Arena Sponsor Taco Bell announced that anytime the Broncos score 90 pts or more that there would be free Tacos to all fans after the game.

BSU would dominate their former Big Sky and instate rival Idaho State in the 1st half outscoring the Bengals 45-28. The Broncos were led by starters SO S. Hicks-11 pts and JR SG D. Wiley 9 pts 2/5 3pt. FR PG Deron Fields led the bench with 8 pts.

(ISU was led by FR R. McDaniel with 12 pts)

In the 2nd half the Broncos would continue to score at a high rate and with 5 minutes to play the chant "We want Tacos" was being heard throughout the crowd. ISU would battle back though behind the play of McDaniel who scored a season high 22 pts (8-16 FG and 3-7 3pt) as they stayed the pace of the Broncos, but in the end the 17 point 1st half deficit was just to much to overcome. JR SG D. Wiley led the Broncos with 21 pts hitting 5/12 from 3pt, but it was the play of 7'1 FR A. Diarra that had sportswriters looking up info on his African beast. With fellow Freshman bigman M. Mbaye on the bench with 4 fouls, Diarra scored a season high 10 pts and pulled down a season high 17 rebounds picking up what hopes to be the 1st of many double double nights.

            JR C R. Wilkerson-18 pts 4 reb 2 blks

COACH "D" TAKE ON THE GAME

"I was very impressed with A. Diarra play in extended minutes. He flat out dominated the smaller lineup of ISU on the boards. Wiley continues to amaze me with his 3pt shooting. He seems to start cold but finish strong one again hitting 3/3 on his last 3 shots and S. Hicks continues to be the go to guy when we need points in the post. Legge continues to show the ability to get to the rim but finished just 3/8 FT , and I can't say enough about Prosper Fullove off the bench. The kid has become a fan favorite. He does a great job of creating easy basket opportunites"

UP NEXT BSU FINISHES THEIR 3 GAME HOME STAND AGAINST (0-1) UTAH

Settings note- I switched from 18 minute halves in the Gonzaga game to 16 minute halves for the ISU game. I am going to try and go with 15 minutes halves for my game against Utah and see if I can get the stats I am looking for.

Also want those following opinion. Do you prefer to see the entire box score? I like the look of it, but man it takes me forever to get everything typed in, or are you okay with the Key players look like I did for the ISU game?

By the way after my game with San Diego State next week I plan on doing a Recruiting Preview for those guys who are in this years recruiting class.

Yeah the key players would be fine to do. But you should def keep the recap thing. These are a lot more fun to follow than the ones that are just box scores.

You are already giving us enough substance with the recaps and storylines so I say continue with the key players instead of a full box score.

Thanks for the input guys. I appreciate it. I enjoy the writeups/recaps as well as trying to give those following as much info as possible regarding Top-25 stuff as well as Recruiting and a reason to follow with created recruits, I do realize that the tables are nice and make for a easy presentation, but for me it just seems to take along time.

I do plan on using them for key games though, like the matchup with Duke, WSU and probalby Washington.

I got the Utah game played. Hope to get the recap up tomorrow.

                          BRONCOS STRUGGLE PLAYING 3 STRAIGHT

                          (1-1) VS (0-2)

                          GAME PREVIEW

The Utah Utes came into Boise having dropped their first 2 games (Winthrop and Pepperdine) and were looking to get something going against the Broncos who were playing their 3rd straight game. Boise fell just short on Friday night losing to Gonzaga 106-104, before beating instate rival Idaho State last night 91-73. Avging 97 PPG, the Broncos are the highest scoring team in the nation, but one has to wonder how long that will keep up.

                          GAME RECAP

                          1ST HALF
Not to many teams in the nation have a bigger lineup then Boise State (Wiley-6'7,Legee-6'6, Hicks-6'10, Mbaye-6'10, Diarra-7'1, Oltjen-7'1) but Utah is one of them (Starting lineup 6'7 SG O'Brien, 6'8 SF W. Clyburn, 7'1 PF J. Washburn, and 7'3 C D. Foster)

The Utes height on defense frustrated the Broncos and created alot of turnovers on bad passes. Even when BSU did get the ball to their shooters, the shots wouldn't go in, as the Broncos found themselves trailing 34-23 at the half.

(Utah was led by W. Clyburn who had 17 of the Utes 34 points)

(BSU hit just 8/35 FG and was 0-11 from 3PT. Wiley and Legee combined to go 1-15 FG and 0-7 from 3pt. S. Hicks led the Broncos with 7 pts and 5 rebs)

                          2ND HALF

Boise State would turn things around in the 2nd half shooting almost 50% from the Field and hit 8/14 from deep as they battle back to pull within 6pts, but that was as close as they could get as the Utes continued to use their size advantage to feed the ball inside for easy baskets. JR Drew Wiley scored 19 of his team high 21 pts (5/15 from 3pt) to lead the Broncos in the loss.
                          FINAL SCORE BSU-67 UTAH-76

                          COACH DEROZON COMMENTS

"Obviously we are disappointed with our efforts. Losing is not any fun and it hurts even more when you do it at home in front of your fans. When we saw the first 3 games scheduled at Taco Bell Arena, we envisoned at least a 2-1 start not a 1-2 start.

I felt like Drew did a great job of shaking off a horrible 1st half to help get us back into the mix in the 2nd half. He is shooting the ball lights out (21.7 PPG 42% from 3pt). Sam Hicks struggled with his shot going up against a 7'1 and 7'3 defender in the post but overalll I felt like he still gave us a solid effort (Avg 18.0 PPG, 7.0 RPG and 5.0 APG through 3 games)"

                                GAME RECAP

Turnovers and poor shooting plagued the Broncos yet again, as BSU shot just 35% from the field and had 6 turnovers in the 1st half as they trailed 31-26 to SDSU. The only good thing that happened was BSU held SDSU star K. Leonard to just 8 pts (2/3 3pt).

In the 2nd half Leonard would go off scoring his teams first 5 baskets to help the Aztecs take a 18 point lead. The Broncos would battle back to pull within 9, but turnovers again plagued the Broncos as they failed to cut into the lead. Forced to foul the Broncos only hope was that they could trade 2pts for 1pt but it didn't happen has PG X. Thames (Transfer from WSU) hit 6/6 FT to seal the victory for the Aztecs.

"Frustrating, Disappointing, Confused, I could go on and on, to describe how I am feeling right now. I knew coming into the season with 6 Freshman and only 2 returning players with extended playing time, that we would struggle at times. I almost am starting to feel like I rather get killed by 20 then to keep coming back and getting within striking distance just to still lose the game. We can't keep putting the pressure on Drew Wiley to hit 3's to get us back into games. Someone else needs to step up and score points and we need to start holding on to the ball."
